#s://www~sprites-inc~co~uk/files/EXE/EXE2/Chips/nodata~gif NOTE - This network has Defenses that must be addressed in order to post here
- - - - A small sized city protected by strong walls, the former base of the Knights of Radiance stands in the southern part of the Creamland Network. The city is formed of approximately twenty buildings and one castle that rests in the back of the network. The buildings are mostly vacant, each having had a specific supportive role in the faction's past but serving it no longer as the city now sits dormant.
The castle, made of light gray stone, stands four stories high.
- - - -
The Knights of Radiance was a faction founded by Vash and later led by Denadite. Their goals were to protect navis from evil doers, to prevent the corruption of the innocent, and to destroy the dark chips, as they are nothing more than instruments of evil that give the false illusion of great power.
Sometime between the end of the Revolution Era and the dawn of the Juno Era, the faction became dormant and now no members remain. The headquarters seem to be in good shape for the years of abandonment, though none have tread here in nearly half a decade to know if there have been any happenings during the silence.

Perched at the edge of the city, the not-really-infamous Info Bandit herself peers curiously over the seemingly abandoned town with the hunger for knowledge nearly oozing from her lips. She had found this place by happenstance recently, but was unable to enter by some invisible force that she didn't quite understand at the time.
After actually gathering useful information for once, thanks to her extended tour around Creamland, she was able to determine a method that would work for her once she practiced it a little bit more. Each Navi had their own unique solution for the city's protection, but it'd need to be refined to a certain degree before it'd actually work.
In Shine's case, she'd been known to snatch some data from her opponents while avoiding their attacks by literally reaching into their attack with an intangible hand, then using the stolen code to bolster her own offenses temporarily. It was the same case here, just the process went a bit differently since the utilization wasn't quite identical.
" And riiiiight... here. "
Her hand became black as a shadow as she reached forward into seemingly empty air, but it was clear that it collided with something at her wrist, where the shadowy property of the limb ended, indicating that she was certainly reaching into something just then.
And that something revealed itself almost instantly; what was an invisible aura just a second ago now became a radiant bubble that encapsulated the entire city as Shine dwindled her fingers with the hand that shifted inside of it, silently tinkering away at properties of the force field protecting her newest prize while waiting for her company to arrive.

Regis gave a whistle at that display. He wasn't too far after her, making it just in time to see the trick she had pulled off. "Alright. That was pretty fancy, I'll admit to that." Following after her, he could appreciate what she just did. He himself hadn't had a way to get around whatever it was that was put into place after all, but she seemed to have just the right answer.
"Though, I have to ask, what exactly is this place?" He let her work, but his curiosity got the best of him, interested in whatever adventure she was dragging him into.

As Shine went to work on the field, within the ghost city could some sort of movement be heard. It wasn't something most would be able to investigate given the nature of the abandoned city to begin with, but it was clear that the aura now housed something that wasn't the long forgotten Knights of Radiance. Their goal was exemplary, their approach needing some refinement, but their deeds unnoteworthy as their cause was abandoned in the end. And as she toiled for but a bit longer did she find that she was able to accomplish her goal as intended, the now visible aura disipating into the very air and leaving them now to their own devices.

She was chirpy as ever while she continued tampering with the barrier, feeling its strength gradually depleting all the while.
" Just means it's gonna be a bigger payout to sell whatever knowledge we get here! "
If nothing else, she was consistent in her end goals and the means by which she pursued them. She smiled proudly as the aura finally deteriorated and her hand went back to its normal self to rest on her waste while she marveled at her success.
Her other hand lifted to signal Regis' entry, as if welcoming him to the unknown land beyond them.
" After you! "

He gave a small snort, not at all surprised by the answer she gave. It was entirely in line with the persona she showed off. Before he could speak however, he stopped himself, listening to the sounds that came from the abandoned city after the barrier was lifted. He frowned, thinking, not responding to his companion for a second. "Did you hear that?"
A light shimmered into his hand, as he twirled a black 'stick' into existence. He wasn't quite sure what the sound had been. But it definitely signaled that there was something here. His frown lessen a fraction, finally responding to her statement with a nod. He still went first, despite the sound, but more on guard then he had been earlier, leading the way. "There's something here, so be careful."

The sounds were increasing as Regis took the lead. It almost sounded similar to cicadas by this point. That combined with the scuttling sounds made it clear that whatever it was likely was insect-like in nature. And as they continued moving for a while yet did they catch a glimpse of what was producing the noise: a black sort of machine that scurried about through the ghost town rather quickly somewhere else, ducking between the surrounding buildings. Whether or not it was followed was up to them now.

The intense inhalation from Shine was impossible for Regis not to hear -- a silent scream of fear, one could even say.
" I want one! "
Oh right: she was stupid.
But at least she was sort of quiet -- the exclamation being more of a whispering declaration rather than an actual shout.
But no, the gasp was not one of fear, rather it was one of glee as she spotted the critter scurrying away, and without much say in the matter, he'd watch her scitter off in pursuit of it herself. So now the question was whether or not to follow her rather than the mysterious machine, regardless of where his stance was on that moments prior.

He looked backwards at her, mildly surprised by the sound. But blinked at her next statement. ...Honestly, he wasn't really surprised by it. It was exactly in line with her. He gave a mild sigh, not really frustrated but more exasperated. Although he couldn't quite hold back the small smile, he was still worried, in contrast to her obvious demeanor as of right now. Either way, it was better to follow suit than leave her to her own devices, he imagined. So with that in mind, he followed after her, trying to survey everything as they chased after the machine.

Following along after it would lead them along a path deeper into the city and steadily approaching the main citadel itself. And what they would run into happened to be it returning to what appeared to be its herd. It was almost hard to distinguish just how many of them there were at first upon sight, but some would scurry along while the group of about twenty started circling about the area that they were in now. What they were up to was hard to discern from just their movements and looked like they were just being repetitive and accomplishing nothing at all but jerking about in a circle. But their surroundings felt a bit strange, perhaps a likely result of the time spent untouched? But some of the buildings looked worn, almost as if something had been gnawing at it for an unknown length of time, whether that time be long or brief.

Upon closer inspection, the machine wasn't as charming as she had first thought it out to be. Perhaps because she only got a glimpse of it before, and now having a better look, it just wasn't doing it for her.
The herd of them were curious creatures, though. She dared for a closer inspection, but really the citadel was what drew her here to begin with. It seemed a little too soon to be gunning straight for it now, though.
" I guess we could get a closer look at them? They're more or less the only residents here and don't really seem to be capable of talking, so I guess the only way we'll learn more about them is by watching. "
She pointed to the main citadel afterward, putting the decision fully in Regis' hands this time as she more or less had her turn making the last decision.
" Or we could ditch them and go for the main attraction. Your choice! "
She hid out of sight in the meantime -- best to preserve the element of surprise while they still had it, she figured.

Regis frowned at the sight they came across. They seemed... not particularly the fastest. But he still had an off feeling about things. While nothing inherent about the situation, but there was just something- The buildings were worn down from what looked like... eating? So these things fested on data? Being a mechanical construct, though there were no visual similarities, he remembered the last time he encountered such a thing.
"Let's leave them with a distraction then." Especially given the fact that they were likely to be some sort of thing to... digest them. "Probably don't let them touch you. At all." He picked out a spot opposite of the entrance of the citadel, hidden from the view of the creatures. At the spot, he materialized a time bomb. He tapped along the side of his 'stick', white circles appearing along the side of it as he began to creep over to another direction that would give them easier access to the castle with cover, counting down with his fingers as he did so.

It was quite the discreet approach to take on the matter at hand. Ordinary things wouldn't have noticed a thing at all as they continued to move and hear noise from other directions. But the group that they had seen first had appeared to started to move toward the direction that the bomb had been created in, as if they knew it arrived after it was set. Though even when they approached near it, they didn't do anything exactly to the bomb itself, instead starting to circle around it. It would also let them see, if they were able, that the position that they had left behind looked like a mangled mess now, eaten away by the subjects at hand.
Adversity: No actions taken.

Is that all they did? Just swarm and consume?
Regis' distraction seemed to pay off at least, so Shine moved forward as well, inching her way closer to the citadel while staying hidden in the shadows -- something she had quite an easy time doing considering her affinity for them.
The time bomb would explode soon enough; she kept an eye on that situation as it would still be useful to know how the little machines handled it in kind.

"That's putting it mildly." The rate at which they would devour was... concerning, to say the least. Especially given the fact that they had no idea how many more of them were out there. Strangely enough, they manged to pick up on the bomb as it materialized...? So possibly within a certain range, then, they had the ability to detect and segregate data instances. It seem to work, atleast, as he let the bomb do it work while moving with Shine. He made sure to keep an eye out on how they reacted to it.
