Initially nothing was coming their way, which was strange. Even still there was starting to be less and less noise, as if the bugs were going somewhere. It was around the time she laid down the smoke screen that as she surmised, a group of them started coming. It was perhaps a group not as large as they first suspected given the amount of noise before they started on their way, this time a group of ten being on their way this time and approaching the very obviously smoke screen. This would be when they would start to do their typical approach that was seen thus far: aim to devour what was there as the smoke gradually became less and less. Their priority on gathering more resources at the time than what lurked inside of the smoke that they now devoured.

#s://i~imgur~com/EodXWY3~jpg As the bugs drew near to the shroud, it'd quickly fade away to reveal nothing hidden within.
Her vanishing act a success, a shadow of Shine rose from each of the bug's shadows, wielding a sword somewhat like the Dark Swords they had used before, but much larger and ridden with a glitchy aura.
All at once, they struck down on the bugs, intending to delete the pack in one fell swoop.
Shine herself was snooping from around the corner, peeking her head out to see how it went down from a distance.

Nothing showed up, which was more curious given how the noise had made it sound like there were more. He frowned at thatthough it seemed like her smokescreen came right on time. The plan managed to go off without a hitch, taking apart the group that had gathered in one fell swoop. From her vantage point it would be when she spotted another group encroaching, this time about fifteen of them. The sound hadn't changed aside from the changes they could first note from earlier. This group was on its way toward her, so it was clear that this group was intended to head toward them rather than away from them and back to their other objective.

" O-okay. Your turn now! "
She could probably contribute a little bit, but her offensive resources took a bit of time to build back up compared to his, as it was well known by now.

Regis stepped up now, his weapon glowing for a brief moment. He stabbed it into the ground, a radiant light surging forth to devouring the bugs that came through their way in a blast. The radiant light howled forth and devoured the devourers, managing to quell the wave that was here. And as they might have been wary of, the noise on this floor had halted and left it eerily quiet as only the object of Shine's making on the lower level could be heard from where they now stood. Where they may stay they would notice that nothing was coming their way anymore. Had that last bunch that Regis had taken out after the previous wave that Shine had wiped out been the last of the ones away from the Lion then? They would either have to proceed forward around the new level and investigate if they had cleared everything up or find out if they needed to get rid of some others inside of the building.

#s://i~imgur~com/EodXWY3~jpg Shine moved out of her hiding spot once the last group had been taken care of, clearly having noticed no indication of any other groups lingering around on this level.
" If that's all of them, maybe we should go revisit our friend before more show up? Or we can continue the hunt if you want, whichever you think is better. "
She was about all out of a means to deal with any other group they came across, so if there was an opportunity to defeat the one target rather than plenty, it'd likely be best to take it. One had to be mindful of guised mis-opportunity though: if they were to commit to that decision and overlook another wave of them, they'd be in just as bad of a position as they would have been for waiting too long to reengage.

Regis gave a sigh. It was getting a bit harder to deal with all of these in a sense. With a frown, he thought for a before second before shrugging. "Let's try to do a fast survey of this level since we're already here and see if we're done. We can't take too much time I don't think, but it'd be pretty defeatist if we didn't do a fast check I feel." Their search on this floor didn't yield any other findings for the mechanic creatures that they had to destroy, but did lead to a rather curious finding instead. While the areas had been eaten through, it was possible to discern that these appeared to be resting quarters. Quarters that had, from one of the ones eaten a bit less than the others, had seen some more recent use. Someone else had come back here while leaving the defense systems intact for them to happen upon now that they had arrived. And it was here that they would find some sort of Access Card, a silver emblem in the shape of a halberd. It had worn words on it that used to read as something, but now only 'Kn', 'of', and ' iance' could be made out of the depiction now. It had a different coding to it, as if it was designed with a higher level access. What it was doing lying around here was anyone's guess now, but it was likely what had been occupying some of those mysterious bugs on this floor earlier.

#s://i~imgur~com/EodXWY3~jpg Shine scooped up the access card and looked at it rather curiously for a moment, trying to discern what exactly it was.
" Ken-off-ee-ants. "
Her attempt at reading aloud the worn depiction was nothing short of predictable at this point, but more importantly, she didn't find any significance from the etched words.
" Maybe we can use this to search deeper in the building after we've dealt with our friend downstairs. The pest problem seems to be taken care of, so I guess we'd better be quick before more show up. "
She gave the access card to Regis to hold onto, partly so that he could observe it himself and partly because even she knew she was a less trustworthy keeper of it.
Without much left here to discover, it would seem that it was about time for their rematch with the Lion machine from before.

He couldn't help but give a snort at her attempt to read it. "Not quite right I think."[/font] Still, this honestly raised more questions than answered, unfortunately. But right now they didn't have the luxury of thinking too much, he supposed. Taking the card, Regis nodded at Shine's words, agreeing. "Then I suppose it's time to be like gladiators and face a lion." The swordsman said plainly. As the duo would make their way back to the lion's den, it would be making the first move this time as once they made it back down to the previous floor, they could see the same harrowing blast from before making its way down toward them. While they would have to fend it off due to its abrupt take on the situation they could confirm that Shine's box was still in effect, working to keep the others isolated from it still. Now they would just need to confirm whether they had accomplished everything necessary to defeat the mysterious war machine this time.

#s://i~imgur~com/EodXWY3~jpg Returning to the lower level, Shine was ready to spring immediately into action. The blast from before was par for the course, so she ran ahead of Regis to deal with it just as before, this time by simply sliding underneath it as she made her approach to the Hassmallim.
The radius of the blast didn't leave much room for her to sweep below it unscathed, but combining her slide with her shadow-stepping trick was enough to fully evade it. As she sunk into her shadow mid-slide, it almost looked as if her body submerged into the floor for a few moments, then reemerged after the attack had subsided.
" Let's finish it before more bugs get inside! "
After her evasive maneuver, Shine leapt gallantly at the lion as one of her hands became fully encased in shadow, turning completely black and entirely incorporeal. This was the same technique she had used at the start of this venture to disable the proximity aura the encompassed this entire network; it's what allowed her to directly tamper with an entity's coding. In this case, as she perched herself atop the Hassmallim, she shoved the incorporeal hand into its head with the intent of ripping out whatever it was that was disrupting Regis' protocols earlier.
After yanking her hand back with whatever she grabbed, she sprang back onto the ground, tumbling on rolling to catch her landing as she retreated from the machine's immediate vicinity and back toward Regis.
" All yours! "

Regis stood in place, in spite of the launched attack. He had some faith that the thief would handle it. So his focus was on bringing this whole thing down to an end. His sheathed blade flashed, 5 orbs glowing along the hilt, with 3 smaller black orbs appearing in within the first set. With an exhale, he pushed forward, spinning the 'stick' as it shifted into a spear. He strikes in a spin, before his image seems to flicker, a raising stream of copies being let loose upwards as a steadier image appears above in the sky, a trail of blue misting from the tip of the weapon. He crashes down like a comet, tearing through the ground, before twisting into another flourish. "Well, let's see what comes next." He thrusts into the machine at an angle with his spear, wisps of light streaming around the weapon for a second, before erupting forward in a blast of pure light. ~ Defensive Phase ~ ~ Supportive Phase ~ [Recover 300 HP] ~ Offensive Phase ~ [5 AS] Sheathe [C-Range] [Blade Element] Sheathing the blade for greater strength.
