It was about to continue its offense when suddenly a pair of lasers struck it from the side, causing it to recoil but not take harm. Another pair struck from the opposite side once its attention was obtained, before they started alternating fire and distracting the behemoth. It served as enough of a distraction to buy them some time from the oppressive offense it had, though it did nothing in the way of bringing down this adversity that Regis and Shine now faced.

" Guess I'll hit it hard then! "
She sprang from Regis' shadow as the beast poised to attack, ready to confront this assault as well. Before it could, however, the Citadel's own defenses came into effect and subdued it for the time being.
" ... "
Admittedly, this intruded on her own hit&run offensive style, but it was still net positive as the lasers weren't aimed at her and she didn't have to worry about the monster moving around too much.
" I'm not quite as renown for my swings. But I'll do what I can!"
Her shadowy copies from before rose up again and turned into what appeared to be black shurikens as they appeared from all corners of the room and dashed directly toward Shine. The last two, with blades of darkness, cut through the behemoth as they dashed to their originator, transforming into shurikens as they approached her after the fact.
Shine caught each of the shadowy shurikens that convened to here, wasting no time to hurl them back at their enemy with deadly force.
Well... deadly enough, at least.
Each shuriken passed directly through its target, being that they were still shadows, but shredding away at its internal coding if allowed to strike true. Not as impactful as any of Regis' own blows, but it got the job done on paper at least.

He hadn't quite expected that. It was a surprise, but atleast it was one that was a welcome one unlike everything else that had gone on. It would atleast buy them some reprieve every now and then. But more importantly... Seeing his comrade let loose her barrage, he figured it was time for him to try his own. But from what he could tell... Convention means that he usually fought with wouldn't work in this case, especially not with the new trick it had shown off. Still as a spear, he stabbed his weapon into place, a shine briefly showing over it before disappearing. With that he pushed forward, his hands clenched into fists as he shut down his hearing protocols. With a brief glimmer on over his hands, he punched forward, before an insignia appears on the ground. As Shine moved to make her move, it clearly was opening its mouth to prepare to unleash the very same roar that had disabled Regis before. As it proceeded to do so a burst of ice erupted from beneath its jaw, causing it to close back up instead as the pair moved to lay into the giant time and again. When all was said and done it dropped down, its body worn from the light, shurikens, and shadowy blows. But their cause for celebration would be short-lived, because some of the very same bugs that they kept crept around waltzed in, flowing back into the lion machine as it was quickly mended, standing up once again as from its body, the very same bugs were spawned once more. And it was here that it would open its maw wide once more, this time unleashing a harrowing blast of force at both in an attempt to settle this battle between them.

" Eek! "
Shine cringed dramatically at the sudden horde of bugs crawling into the machine, recoiling away from the downed monstrosity as they revitalized it.
" Let's get out of here! "
As it opened its mouth to roar, Shine shoved Regis into their conglomorate shadow on the ground, sinking right through it with him as he had seen her do several times by now. In whatever realm he found himself in, he couldn't see anything, but would feel her dragging him along through it as if being pulled between tightly tucked curtains. Before he knew it, he'd find himself re-emerged alongside her in another corner of the room, relatively safe from harm's way for now.
" The lasers should keep him busy. I'm really not a fan of the bugs anymore! "
She cringed again at the thought of any of the zombie-bugs crawling around inside of her like that and playing her body like a puppet. He wasn't kidding when he said not to let them touch her -- at all!
They'd have to deal with them if they wanted to get past the Lion, though. She made her way back toward the foyer for now, nothing else to find in this room.

Now this one was an unpleasant surprise, Regis wincing as he saw how the 'bugs' interacted with the golem. Not entirely out of what he considered, but very much not what he wanted to see happen. Just as he was preparing his own defense, his partner pushed and dragged her through her realm to deal with the attack. As they came back to regular space, he blinked. That was mildly disconcerting. "Your defenses are rather impressive." After all, she had been all of that for them. While she had the right thinking, he couldn't help but remark something. "We need to find the bugs from earlier and delete them. Though there may be more." He spoke as he walked with her, moving a bit faster. It was hard to say. But ultimately, as long as any bugs were around, they could feed back its recovery. And he didn't think the golem would let them go to easily. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Defensive Phase ~ ~ Supportive Phase ~ [Recover 300 HP] ~ Offensive Phase ~ [5 AS] [Auto Charging Sheathe, Azure Apocalypse, Strike, Fang Blade, Light Spear Cannon] [Manual Charge Hub Batch, Demon Fang, Rending Strike, Swallow Fury] ~~~~~~~~~~ [HP=2,581/2,800] {Charges ::(+)::}Sheathe - 1 Azure Apocalypse - 2 Strike - 1 Fang Blade - 2 Light Spear Cannon - 3 Hub Batch - 1 Demon Fang - 1 Rending Strike - 1 Swallow Fury - 1

As Shine surmised, the lasers were keeping it busy at the time as its roaring bellow could be heard throughout. While they were away however, they would have to wonder if the weapons would still be intact by the time they returned or it being after them now. And as they were making their way back to the foyer they were in luck, or not in luck for that matter, as the group from before that they avoided had been on their way in now. Another logical conclusion that their work would be put on hold now that battle with the Lion was at hand. This might be their last stroke of luck so far, as the group wasn't directly aware of them immediately, but were starting to change the direction that they were heading now.

#s://i~imgur~com/EodXWY3~jpg Shine slowed to a halt as she noticed the group from before pouring into the Citadel. The rest of its unknown defenses were certainly a concern, but she figured if she just retraced her steps from earlier, she wouldn't trigger anything since nothing triggered before.
" You can handle those, right? I think I should go patch the hole we came in from so more don't start showing up. "
As for how exactly she was going to do that: she didn't really have that part figured out yet. Regis used a Timebomb before to distract the things, so she figured she could clog the hole with some type of summoned object of her own, but didn't want the bugs to just eat it away when they noticed it, so it was probably best to get rid of the ones inside first.
That old "Repair" chip could probably do the job as well, but naturally, she didn't have any handy.
For the time being, she stuck along the edges of the walls, tip-toeing in the shadows, as was her comfort zone, ready for a follow up assault if the new arrivals were still left standing after Regis' own strike.

Hopefully the lasers would still be active against the machine when they returned. But atleast something went their way. From a technically stand point, though it remained to be seen if it was genuinely a good thing or not. But getting the drop on them made it a bit better. Even before Shine had spoken, Regis was already in motion. Holding at his hand, he brought forth his weapon again, swinging with it as an arc of energy shot forward. As it neared, a prism floated into the sky, shining briefly, before the wave tore into it. The object shattered, and what was once one arc turned into a multitude of ones, firing forward to tear into all of the bugs that were in the area. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Defensive Phase ~ ~ Supportive Phase ~ [Recover 300 HP] ~ Offensive Phase ~ [5 AS] Sheathe[C-Range] [Blade Element] Sheathing the blade for greater strength. The sudden shockwave tore into the targets as planned, getting rid of the bugs as they were decimated by the attack as the shockwave dissipated along with them rather abruptly. They could feel tremors beneath them and vibrations in the air, a familiar sensation all things said as a shock of force tore through the air at them. It was another blast from before, but not quite as powerful as well. It must have been somewhat aware of their position from where it was left behind, but not enough to keep up a constant offensive for them from where it was. And the cry of the insects were almost drowned out by it. From here if they wanted to be successful they would have to figure out how many they had to destroy, as well as taking them all down so that they could successfully face what could be presumed to be their origin.

#s://i~imgur~com/EodXWY3~jpg Several of Shine's shadows piled up behind Regis to take the strike intended for him, cancelling it out completely before it had time to track her down either. While the shadows met the same fate as the bugs, she and Regis at least went on to fight another day.
" We only have to deal with the ones inside of the building, right? So long as we can keep the rest from coming in... "
It made sense to her at least, but she wasn't the brightest bulb in the box and all; more of a "Dull" than a "Shine", one might even say.
Just as Regis had used his Time Bomb from earlier, Shine spawned a Windbox in the hole that they had entered the Citadel through, looking pretty jammed and crooked admittedly, but at least enough to stop anything from crawling through. It was faced outward, so it'd blow away anything trying to approach it, she figured.
" And there we go! "
She seemed proud of herself, as it took some real juices flowing in her brain (or whatever equivalent expression that Navis could have) to conjure that one up.
" There's still some more empty rooms on this floor, but we probably would have seen more bugs scittering around by now if any were left. Why don't we head up to the next to see if there are any more? "
The building was about four stories high, so there were plenty of places for them to hide. The ones they saw when they had entered seemed to be following a set-path, almost like a repeatable route from what she had observed. If nothing else, they could keep waiting around for more to tread that path again, but it was probably best to go hunting them down before more chewed through the walls of the windbox plugging the easier entry point, she figured.

So the thing was still hunting them. Another suspicion turned out correct, though perhaps this would've been one that was better to not be right about. It's offense was definitely lowered atleast, so that was one upside, though his partner was still handling defense easy enough. "It's not a bad plan." Both blocking the entrance, and continuing the hunt. It was better to try to get the drop on it rather than the other way around after all. "Let's try to push it as soon as possible then." While the lightbulb that was Shine's brain wasn't the most adequate when compared to a great many others, it served to come up with a fairly useful idea in this case. They would clearly be able to hear the sounds of the insects from the outside near the windbox, serving a twofold purpose. In placing it, they were alerted to its presence and approached: drawing them away from the other avenues they may have pursued instead. It would also serve to drive them away for at least a while with the winds that it produced to prevent their entry for a bit longer. And as they surmised when they made it up to the second floor, the same sound synonmous with the fact they had a much larger prey after them resonated across the floor. It was likely a larger group than the one they had just managed to dispose of. Whether they were traveling as a unit or not was yet to be seen, but they at least didn't see any coming their way immediately which could lead to several possible conclusions.

#s://i~imgur~com/EodXWY3~jpg So the wind worked, which even to Shine was very surprising. It meant that the situation here had more options than first met the eye, though, and they'd have to use their creative thinking to find out what those were. Well, Regis would, that is. All of Shine's "original thought"-juices were used up now.
She stopped moving when she heard the bugs on this floor, but didn't see them when looking around.
" Okay, I've got another idea: if we wait for this group to get closer, we can get the jump on them! You took care of the last group, so if I handle this one, it makes us even. "
Still standing in the middle of the passageway, Shine through down a... rather conspicuously placed smoke bomb that veiled her position. While it was true she wouldn't be visibly seen from the outside, it was hard to say whether the bugs would take any notice of a randomly loitering smoke screen when they passed by.
" Don't let them see you, okay?! "
In her brilliant mind though, this still counted as hiding.

It was good to see that that was a useful idea. It was one that he was pretty much in agreement with. So contrary to belief, his partner had good ideas. Though maybe it just wasn't often. So with that handling one entry point, they would just need to start their hunt for the others. Their hunch was on point, but the noise... Was it more of them? Or just a bigger one? Before Regis could do anything, he turned to the thief, listening to her and blinking. "...Sure." He wasn't quite sure what to make of it. But as it was right now, there wasn't really anything to do about it, especially given she already took action. So hopefully her plan went out properly. ~~~~~~~~~~ [Charges maintained.] ~~~~~~~~~~ [HP=2,800/2,800] Sheathe - 1 Azure Apocalypse - 3 Strike - 1 Fang Blade - 2 Light Spear Cannon - 3 Hub Batch - 1 Demon Fang - 1 Swallow Fury - 2
