---------------------------------- “There are some things that cannot be rushed.” ________________________________________________________
This was the strangest terrain…
On the inside…if this was an inside…there was always a shallow puddle of water at one’s soles. The walls were decorated in towering gold that went to the heavens. Stretching as far as forty feet was the inside of what seemed like a modern mansion. However, there was no ceiling to be seen. There was nothing but a haze of black that flashed here and there with white and yellow flashes. Was this a storm inside an overly sized building? It seemed ransacked by the water, but that would be a first guest. The second would be that this place was always in this condition.
There was no entrance door as there was only a bright white doorway coming from a single dead-end wall. Before that was a path down the hall that seemed like it was lead into eternity, until there was a division at the center. One hall left, one right, and then the path straight ahead. Warrior would have to observe his surroundings when he entered through the opening.
The rest was left up to faith in this storm inside a maze.

It was quite the site this area was. A thunderstorm within a ceilingless building... not something he could say he'd ever seen before, that was for sure.
The voice didn't seem to be here to lead him, so he'd have to make a decision with which path to take for now. He had an odd tendency to always go left in dungeon-esque settings, so hopefully that wouldn't fail him this time.
He wasn't quite sure what he was looking for yet, but he had a feeling that when he found it, he'd know what it was. No progress could be made by standing still though.
So the left path it was.

“Nyaaaaaaaaaaa! Wait for meee!!!”
He went left, but it did not matter…because raging from the center hall happened to be a familiar figure that seen him.
The form swept quickly behind Warrior almost instantly taking ground behind him. However, his features could not be ignored with that face and shriek of terror. The violet haired boy was now…yellow? His hold body to be exact was drenched in that color. His eyes were hidden for a moment before he turned around panting and looking to Warrior with labored breathes…had that even possible in this strange world. He had picked his head up quickly, balled up his little fists and stamped his foot looking to Warrior in urgency.
“This place is bad!” he cried, “It’s moist! It’s wet! Plus I am not sure even where to go! It’s crazy!”
Even though his body was a bright yellow, he had seemed to be worn out. This was either a huge mansion that you would have to cover your ground quickly or you simply just had to give a different approach considering the branching paths. Where was up? Where was down? What was around this place?
Xenneth…or whatever this image of him was, had come from one direction. Perhaps he knew something?

"Wait for meee!!!"
". . ?"
Xenneth's voice. But didn't Warrior just leave him behind in the last room? There wasn't much he could say before he caught up to him to tag along though.
“This place is bad! It’s moist! It’s wet! Plus I am not sure even where to go! It’s crazy!”
". . ."
Confusing, to say the least. Warrior analyzed the situation in his mind as the splash from Xenneth's stomp echo'ed from the seemingly ceilingless walls down the allegedly labyrinth-esque mansion they'd found themselves in.
"I'll take your word for it."
Xenneth seemed like he was running from something. Or maybe he was just exhausted from the short-sprint he made to catch up with Warrior -- whatever the case, he wanted to find a way out, and by the sound of his tone of voice, the sooner the better.
Warrior wasn't here to go on a scavenger hunt -- the root of the problem was Xenneth appearing in the Cyber World (or at least that's what they had all been led to believe up to this point) -- so the goal was obviously to help him find a way out.
And being trapped in a mansion-maze didn't necessarily work towards that goal, so getting him out was this first most obvious task to accomplish.
"We'll walk and talk. What do you know about this place?"
He didn't think the door he'd entered this mansion from was still opened -- that'd be too easy -- but he didn't think to turn around and check either.
If going left failed him today, it'd be a first. So he continued with Xenneth down the left hall while inquiring to learn more about the situation. The better he understood, the likelier he could solve it.

“Nothing.” Xenneth shooks his head…but hesitant, “I mean…nothing. It’s just, I really don’t want to stay in this place for long. Can we just leave?”
He shown a very unsettling distaste about walking around the area, and even lifted his foot from the shallow waters. Somehow, even if ghostly, he interacted with the environment. Xenneth walked with Warrior as he spoke. Eyes going left, right, all around as he watched his surroundings. The shadows cast on the shallow waters were not as frightening as the flashes of light from the dark clouds. His heart was racing and to make matters worse…
*Drip…drip….FWOOOSH!!!*
A roar of the elements. A sudden rain storm poured down.
“This mansion is nuts!” Xenneth said, “Plus, I think I might have went this way…or have I? I’m no sure!”
Xenneth seemed confused, but urgent. Chaotic and cryptic. The door was right before Xenneth and Warrior as the boy stopped in front of Warrior, but stood at the door that was at the end of the hall. What should be done?

The rain picked up quite heavily. It almost felt like it was in response to Xenneth's impatience.
Was that what it was though? Impatience? Or was it fear?
To know nothing about a place yet to desperately want to leave... it certainly had to be the latter.
"I'll get you out of here Xenneth, but it's going to take some time. Just trust me; you've got nothing to worry about while I'm here. Let's take a break for a moment so you can clear your mind, then we can figure something out from there."
Despite the pouring rain, Warrior was able to talk above the storm. His hair and clothes were drenched now, but he wasn't too concerned about that at the moment.
"We aren't in a hurry, so there's no need to rush it."
Hasty decisions could lead to making mistakes, after all.

“I rather not…”
Xenneth panted and the rain grew even heavier. His eyes seen down the dark hallway that had nothing but a bunch of fog building up around the corner from whence they came. To make things worse, with a narrow of his eyes, or even warriors; there were shadows that seemed to conjure about the vapors every moment or so. It was then that the violet haired boy had become a bit more stressed due to the amount of time that was elapsing. He swallowed deeply as the mist crept to their soles. The water underneath was barely becoming visible.
“I am okay. Really. I can keep going. It’s just…sometimes, I feel I have to try harder. Make decisions, and try to act quickly! If I hesitate, nothing will be done. I just really want to protect you right now, Warrior-san!”
His panicky mood! His sporadic behavior! His impulsive nature! What was the meaning of this? Also, he was so formal now.
Xenneth looked to Warrior, determined. He seemed as if he was pretty desperate to try to leave this place, but his reason more distorted. With eyes set on the swordsman, it was up to Warrior to determine what Xenneth was trying to convey: why was it so important that Warrior be protected…and from what? Did they have time to figure it out? What would they both do?

Protect Warrior? All this time he thought he was here to protect Xenneth. But that raised the question: what were either of them needing to be protected from in this place?
"A lot of times, I feel the same way. I tell myself that it's better to make a decision -- even if it's the wrong one -- than to remain indecisive about something. But a lot of times it's also gotten me into more trouble than was necessary, to say the least. Though it's not always the case, sometimes it's better to take a step back and reevaluate the situation before moving forward."
Even Warrior felt a little antsy when he noticed the shadows in the vapors. And maybe it was pride, or maybe it was genuine concern, but he believed himself more capable of taking a blow than Xenneth, so if a situation arose that one of them was going to get hit by something it was very likely that Warrior would be the one doing the protecting in that scenario, unless Xenneth was just that determined to stick to his word.
But then again... maybe something positive could come of it? Maybe if he achieved his desire to 'protect Warrior', he wouldn't feel as though he had to try harder any more; maybe he'd feel enough satisfaction to bring him out of this state of restlessness he seemed to be in right now.
Or maybe he'd end up with a broken face, one or the other.
Jacob Rayner would never have grown tough if Remnant never let him take a hit. Maybe now it was Xenneth's turn to toughen up, so to speak. And who knows, maybe he'd surprise him.
"I'll leave you in charge though. Choose our next course of action, Xenneth, and we'll face the consequences of it together for better or worse."
Here was his chance to make decisions and try to act quickly. If Xenneth remained indecisive though, it looked like they'd be continuing to sit there and rest after all, which wasn't exactly against Warrior's initial intents anyway.

Xenneth was left with the choice, however, he did not move. It seemed, for some reason, that the phantom of the violet haired boy did not seem to move on a whim of his wishes or choices, but rather Warrior’s the idea to leave the room was there, and so Xenneth vanished in an instant with the door cracking open and leaving Warrior alone as Xenneth stood in the door crack now with a smile…a smile that drained slowly as he gazed into the seeping mist that finally built to knee level and enshrouded the halls into oblivion.

Warrior and Xenneth notice it, but it’s too late! The shot was coming with a speed and accuracy that was darn near impossible to escape! One of them would have to use the forbidden shield: their very own bodies. Xenneth raced forced, urging Warrior to step aside with so much as a touch to his shoulder. A prompt that demanded, darn near begged, for him to share the brunt of this attack by letting him stand in front. There was little time to decide, so impulses would guide them from this moment on…one of them would conquer their fear…

An indecisive silence emanated from Warrior as time seemed to slow to a stop during this moment of decision.
Xenneth was already stepping up to conquer his fear, but now it was left to be seen whether or not Warrior would conquer his own by allowing Xenneth to take the blow that he certainly wasn't ready to share.
But if Xenneth was willing to step out of his comfort zone, Warrior could step out of his -- quite literally stepping out of the way for Xenneth to take the hit.
"Alright Xenneth... I trust you know what you're doing."
While the attacker struck at Xenneth, Warrior dashed forward and attempted to land a hit on the enemy hidden by the fog.

“Owwie!”
A sound coming from within the fog.
“Well, I reckon ya’d’ be a little toughy, hun! But that’ there’s no reason ta’ play so rough’ ya hear?”
Her accent was next to wrecked! Here dialect had given away bits of her origin. Southern Gigamerican? Was that what this network was? It left a lot to be desired when it came to knowledge of this strange area, but clearly, this was probably was NetNavi. “Ma’ name’s Senshi.” she went on, “But ya’ will be taken’ it to tha grave! You and that little wallflower there, so that little ol’ trick ain’t gon’ work twice, ya’ hear? Not when I get serious! So best ya’ run along! It gimme good target practice wen’ they do!”
The phantom Xenneth had been holding his right arm. A shallow blow, but it still wrecked his body. He winced as he stood up once again in front of Warrior. His eyes narrowing as the shadow had vanished leaving nothing but the sight of ungodly white vapors. Even the young boy winced at that moment as he looked over his shoulder to Warrior.
“S-she’s serious.” the violet haired boy said, “She could be lying…or she could be trying to make a game out of this. Y-you think we could get away?”
Whether that was a good idea or not…there was barely time to think about it…

A bullet was launched once more, and again, it traveled along the path towards Warrior with Xenneth in close proximity. The violet haired boy tried to make a break in order to intercept the attack. However, it was up to Warrior whether or not he would make a mad dash to intercept the attack seeing the young boy had already done his share of intercepting. The fog was building, and nothing but the sound of the barrel launching the next shot was eligible to the senses.
Should Warrior fire blindly into the fog or should they try to escape to the door?

Warrior stood strong against the incoming bullet this time -- he'd share the load, not let Xenneth take all of it.
As he raised his fists over his face to block, the bullet ricocheted off of his knuckles and nearly bent one of his fingers out of place. He was used to wounds like these, though, and just popped the joint back into its place with his thumb as he lowered his hands following the defense.
Now was the choice: To run, to fight, or to try to talk it out.
"Guess we'll just hit her harder and see if she squeals some more."
Hey, it worked for Warrior's stronger friends all the time. Maybe it'd work for him too.
Black energy gathered in the palm of the aforementioned "unbroken" finger, conditioning itself into a basketball-sized sphere that appeared to have the texture of a hundred small lightning bolts dancing amongst themselves in such a way that they composed the black ball. As Warrior threw it into the mist, it broke apart into four smaller spheres, each one rocking the mansion upon contact with a quake much louder than the occasional thunder from the clouds above (and causing substantial trauma to whatever it hit).
Maybe she'd pop out again if he managed to hit her?

The attack flew into the fog, but there was little to no reply. The only thing occurred was the temporary parting of the mist as if to let the attack through, and then closing as if it was swallowing it whole to be lost forever in the chaos. There was a temporary silence as Xenneth was left sitting on the terrain, eyes looking about him and Warrior as if for a chance to escape. He crept close to the door still, holding it open. However, there was no movement for him to leave. Not yet as Warrior was still standing his ground and fending off the assault.
“Well ain’t that quite the toy soldier, of ya!” the female NetNavi’s voice echoed all around. “Good ol’ Warrior! Always protecting people…even though ya’ com’ up kinda short at times, hun’. How many times do you keep rushin’ in ther’ with brute force and u’ can do attitude? That pride of yer’s can get people killed, ya’ know that, rite? Has it? How much blood is on dem’ ther’ hands? Rather…how far up dem thur’ ankles? Knees? Drowning even, hun’? Wher’ is tat’ fine line between protecting someone and leadin’ em to sure death’s door?” there were no words, but there was the cock of a gun. The female NetNavi’s talk was not just some distraction, or some ploy to reload. There was more to it.
“How many times are going to stand yur’ ther’ ground and let people stand with you die before you let that pride go? Think about what yur’ standin’ here fighin’ for.”

Xenneth yelped.
The moment the gunshot went off, the young phantom figure dashed forth from the door once more. A single hand reaching to pull Warrior towards him and try to take on the hit himself by thrusting himself. Whether Warrior would allow it or not took only a rude stroke of the shoulder or waft of the hand to keep the image of the young boy from taking the shot. However, would he truly heed to the assist? Would he really let Xenneth keep taking risks like this?

Warrior frowned as the attack produced no effective outcome. The rootin' tootin' gunslingin' cowgirl had prepared quite the taunt after that mistake, too.
"Funny you ask. I've actually gotten more people killed by being too hesitant than by jumping the gun."
A lesson he was trying to tell Xenneth about just previously, in fact.
Xenneth was able to pull Warrior out of the way of the shot, so maybe the mysterious girl was right about that whole "bringing others down with you" speech after all. He couldn't say that she didn't have a point, especially when she went on to ask him why he was even fighting right now.
"I'm fighting because I feel threatened. Getting shot at without warning has that effect on people. But what I'm not understanding is why you're fighting. What's your beef with us, and why's it so severe that you're willing to shoot us in our backs before even trying to talk it out?"
Looks like he'd take that "hesitant to attack" path yet again, but hopefully past failures weren't an indicator of what the result would be.
"Or are you the kind that rushes in with brute-force and the "can do" attitude as well? After all, you seem pretty familiar with the way that goes, Senshi."

I’m this here part that screams out when ya’ stand in ma’ way of the things I want. The part that doesn’t botha’ hesitatin’.”
The fog echoed with the sound of a heavy cock, a bullet hitting the ground, and ringing down the halls. Obviously, it was a sign that the next shot was coming.

Another shot rung through the manor’s halls and Senshi’s echoing words were lost in memory. However, they did not lose their meaning. Xenneth had even lifted a brow looking into what she said, but of course holding his chest with her right hand where the bullet entered. It was amazing just how much extensive damage a program could take in the Cyber world and just how exact the pain could be reflected. Even then, Xenneth was amazing as he even tried to stand up once more in Warrior’s path, attempting to intercept the bullet.
The only question was…would he allow it…and what would Warrior do afterwards?
