It was an overcast day, threatening to pour. The clouds were a mixture of gray and black. As it was threatening to pour over the land below. From the clouds looking down, it was nothing but nearly flat grasslands. In some places, the grass was tall, in others, about as tall as the grass on a putting green. As the lone navi flew across the land, he finally spotted his destination: the lone humongous tree. This particular and peculiar tree was so large, it reached the clouds!
The navi beat his wings again, they effortlessly carried him to the tree. As he approached, he gently folded them slightly, to land on his feet in one of the high branches, closer to the clouds than the ground below.
"The branches are sturdy, that's for sure." He thought to himself, as he walked towards the trunk. The branches were about a foot in diameter at the edges, even so high up! He knew as one would reach where the tree penetrated the clouds, the branches thinned out quickly, and could be treacherous, if one wasn't careful. Especially when it rained.
The way this tree was, the leaves from the outside were so thick and bunched up, there were only a few branches on each layer that a navi could land safely. When a navi navigated in safely, either from the base or from the branches, it became almost a web of branches to hop, climb, jump, flip and maneuver in. It was a sight to behold. So lush, beautiful and colorful.
He reached the trunk. He turned, his cloak covering his face, and waited, as thunder was heard in the distance..

A beam, wreathed in lightning, shoots down from the sky, landing before Merrill. Oddly, it didn't scorch or mark the wood it was on, indicating this was a transport beam. A minute later, the beam fades away, revealing a small, armor clad form, a red cloak twining around him, suspended from two shoulder armor plates.
One blue eye, the other gold, examines Merrill, and then Fulgur bows slightly."U-uhm.....thank you,for agreeing to this....Its a p-pleasure meeting you face to face."
"You are quite welccome. It is nice to see a new face... And a new opponent. One whom I have never faced, and has not experienced my abilities, past or present."
Merrill nodded. He lowered the hood of his cloak. Revealing his spiked white/black hair. The several ties with little crystals attached at the base of each spike. Still facing the tree, He rested his hand upon it.
"I find it interesting. I decide to step back into the world for the first time in a long time... And I immediately get a challenge for a battle. I give you some credit. I thought I had been pretty quiet at staying hidden."
He gave a small chuckle. He turned, facing Fulgar. He gave a bow as well.
Two teal eyes. Calm, yet focused. Defensive yet piercing. Merrill studied Fulgar quickly. He remained relaxed. He asked his next questions.
"So. How did you find me? and Why pick me to battle? I'm curious."

Fulgur tilts his head, the wind playing with white and blue hair as he examined Merrill's hairstyle curiously.Realising that his soon to be opponent was speaking to him, the young navi blinks, smiling sheepishly.
It was probably obvious that he wasn't exactly a deadly, dangerous warrior. But one shouldn't underestimate Fulgur.....there was a reason he felt confident enough to challenge this particular Navi.
Hearing the questions, Fulgur smiles shyly."U-uhm.....B-being a protecter of the people....I-I have contacts....I heard r-romours, and decided t-to search you out. I thought perhaps you'd b-be a good spar, and if I'm l-lucky, a good comrade...." He breathes in, then relaxes, holding his hand out and forming it into a buster shaped like the head of a snarling wolf. The eyes flash red one, seeming to indicate it was ready for firing as the headband on his head unfolds into a helmet. The one eye still visible looks calmly at Merrill."I'm ready when you are, sir."
"Goodness. I'm slipping." He spoke, scratching the back of his head, as he sighed. How he had been discovered quickly was beyond him. But he gave Fulgar credit. His contacts must be good.
"Good. Relax. No need to be shy around me. I'm honored you think I would be a good spar... Granted, I'm not used to battling others lately... So I may be a bit rusty. But I accepted your challenge."
He watched as Fulgar readied himself. He looked pretty neat, with a wolf-like buster, and that fancy looking head armor.
"Oh, other thing, please don't call me Sir. Name's Merrill. I'm not your superior or supervisor. I haven't been one of those in a long time... So get ready!"
Merrill let out a deep breath. The clear crystal on his forehead gained a faint white glow. He stared at Fulgar. He made no movement, no indication of anything, keeping his form hidden beneath his white cloak. He just focused on staring Fulgar down...
Two blades appeared out of thin air, pointed at Fulgar. One white blade, with the two fang like points near the sharp tip, and one Black blade. The blades were identical except for the colors. Each had a golden pummel with 7 gems, one gem for each color of the rainbow, and each signifying one of the 7 powerful natural emotions. Each blade had been hand crafted by a weapon smith whom also knew Magic and had tempered each blade. The abilities of each blade were slightly different as well.
Life, the White blade, darted at her target first, aiming to pierce Fulgar's armor my his buster shoulder. Death targeted his opponent's heart. would they land? Either way, after the pair of blades made their piercing strikes, they returned to Merrill, hovering around him, first vertically, then horizontally, then diagonally, as Merrill waited to see how Fulgar would react...

Fulgur nods, smiling, as Merrill requests that the young navi not call him sir."Very well, s-Merrill." Merrill would probably notice a different air about him, now that he was going into a good natured spar. Ful seemed more confident, and a little more playful.
As Merrill stares the young navi down, he readied himself, prepared to meet whatever appeared. So, it didn't surprise him...much...when two swords appeared, pointed straight at him.As Life jabs at his shoulder armor, Fulgur knocks it aside with a wave of his kopis blade, the lightning blade crackling. As Death shoots at his chest, the boy forms a Aspis shield, just barely blocking it.
As the weapons return, he grins, rocking on his heels." Those weapons are pretty cool!! How'd you get them?" Then, remembering he's in the middle of a spar, Ful rubs the back of his helmet sheepishly, clearing his throaght."Er...right..my turn." He makes a downward striking motion with his free arm, as if calling something down, and things, barely there forms, appear. But, the energy shields and spears of lightning the forms carried were very much there."Enōmotiai, Doru Pēta!!" The forms draw back, unleashing a total of 36 spears at his opponent, all of them aimed to peirce Merrill's form.
( An explanation: A enomotiai was a group of 32-36 hoplites, the equivalent of a squad. The Doru/dory was the spear used by said hoplites, and PETA means throw, or cast. So,basically, "Squad,Spear Throw!")

As Fulgar deflected his initial attack, Merrill gave a small nod. So, Fulgar could use multiple weapons. He had versatility. As the question was asked, Merrill shook his head.
"It's a long story. And I care not to think about that in the middle of a battle! I stay focused."
As Fulgar summoned his hoplites, Merrill made no intention of moving. Suddenly, a large volume of spears were being chucked and thrown at him. He chose to still do nothing, watching Fulgar with intent, keeping his focus. Some of the spears were deflected by the spinning and rotating swords, Life and Death. Others just seemed to lose power as they reached Merrill. None touched his cloak. However, a few found their mark, scraping across Merrill's cheeks. Small gashes appeared.
However, as Fulgar watched, the wounds he had just inflicted began to heal... Rapidly. Merrill then widened his feet slightly. The air around him seemed to shimmer and come alive as the Nurse-like Navi began generating power. His body started glowing, his white cloak generating white light, while his body did a blue-green aura mixed with gold and white. Without warning, he dashed towards his opponent, getting almost in Fulgar's face.
"You say you are a protector, but can you defend the people?"
He dashed past Fulgar, Life and Death flying past, each trying to leave a gash: Life going for Fulgar's hip, Death going for his arm. Merrill jumped, landing on a branch. He turned, facing down at Fulgar.
"I get the protector deal. I wa--- am too. But what is it you fight for? What is your reason to fight?"
Beneath his cloak, Merrill raised his right hand, a ring of Yellow, Black, Green, Blue White and Red Meteors appeared. They rotated around Merrill momentarily. Then, a sigil appeared under Merrill's feet. It too, gave a white-gold flair, and it radiated energy outward. With a nod, the group of Meteors targeted Fulgar, streaking towards him one after another. Merrill stood, the glow of his body and armor growing in density and size. The air around him now shimmered even more, affecting the leaves of the branches he stood on.
"Even if this is a spar, as a protector, you should take this match very seriously! especially against me!"
Was he taking it too seriously? He only wondered slightly, trying to keep his focus on his opponent.

Fulgur nods as his hoplites fade away."Alright, sorry about that."Then, he watches, his visible eye widening, as his sparring partner heals, beginning to glow. Then, Merrill is nearly in his face. The young navi blinks, a little shocked. That quickly?!?
At the question, Fulgur blinks. Why? He was a protector...he felt it deep within. Then, he grunts feeling the weapons gash him, carving relatively easily through. Hmmm...small enough that he could repair it easily.Fulgur breathes in,streamers of electricity forming and flowing Into his mouth.
The wounds close, and the armor repairs. And just in time! Meteors charge at the navi, and he narrowly dodges, rolling along the branch and hopping back up." I fight because.....I feel I have to, because its part of me.That, and someone has to stand up to those who feel they can hurt the innocent and defenseless...." The air around him begins to crackle, smelling of ozone. Above, the sky booms in response, as the young navi begins to glow, radiating out light energy." I am a protector, and that's all I need to know. So long as I see happy smiles on the ones I fight for, I'm satisfied." He steps, his armor changing. It gains gold trim, and despite the dark grey, seemed to let out a warm glow.If you looked close, you could see the faint image of angel wings floating behind Ful." Sorry for insulting you. I'm used to spars being play, as well as practice..Anyways, here I come!Armor of Hermes!"
Another set of armor, made of energy, appears over Fulgur. As fitting the name, the greaves had stylized wings on the sides, and same with the helmet that had appeared over Fulgur's head. He steps toward, flickering, then seems to appear before Merrill. But...."Behind you!!" A fist hisses at the back of Merrill's head.
Merrill nods at Fulgar as he makes his response. For the first time that day, Merrill gave a small grin, in acceptance of Fulgar's response to his big question.
"I like your answer! Never lose sight of that!"
Merrill crossed his arms. He admitted Fulgar took something that he had thought he was and escalated it... Taking it to the next step. He may have failed... But he would give this navi his best, and hope that this spar would strengthen them both. In some ways, Fulgar already had opened Merrill's eyes and make him start thinking...
However, he didn't get much time to think. Fulgar's "Armor of Hermes" was forming and the navi was already making his move. As his opponent flickered and moved, Merrill gave a small smile. Somehow, he followed most of the Armor's movements, mainly due to have had a similar move used on him before by one of his closest allies. Instead of moving as Fulgar shouted, nearly in his ear, giving him enough time to react, he accepted the blow, using the momentum to roll in the air, use one hand to flip off the original branch the battle had started on, to one next to it. He then looked up at Fulgar, nearly losing his focus.
"You show promise, that is for sure. I'm excited to see where this battle leads."
Merrill's energy levels were high, but not high enough. His ranged attacks were clearly not going to cut it. Fulgar had eaten two attacks, back to back, and healed them almost as quickly as he had. There were few navi's who could match his healing blow for blow, that he knew until Fulgar. He couln't help but be slightly excited. He raised his left hand, a much larger sword appearing across his back. He grabbed onto it, and pulled it forward. The gleaming two-hand sword: Hope. A blade of black and white, it had a teal gem in the pummel. It also had several strange markings running up both sides, and the center of the blade seemed to be alight with a golden teal-ish glow. The blade was slightly larger than four feet, and slightly wider than Life or Death. The pummel was black. His hands were now exposed, one could tell that they had a flexible material for fingerless gloves. Each joint seemed to have a slightly sturdier looking flexible material. than the rest of the glove. The gloves were a light green with pure white accent.
He jumped, landing on a branch above Fulgar. He raised one hand, Life and Death both targeting Fulgar from each side. Merrill then took a running start, jumped, and dashed towards his opponent, taking a quick thrust attempt at Fulgar's right knee with Hope.
As he flew past, he released one hand, grabbing Death out of the air and aiming to shove the "fangs" of the blade into Fulgar's back. He then jumped to another branch, and upon landing, spun, and slammed his free hand down. A rushing sound could be heard as a large wave of water-like light came crashing down on Fulgar from above.
Merrill then stood, holding the two hand in front of him in a defensive position. Life and Death resumed their defensive hovering. His armor was still glowing, the air now alight with his colors. The sigil at his feet was now pulsing repeatedly, instead of faintly. He could feel his body acclimating to the battle pretty well. He had full control and was fully focused for now. He wondered how is opponent would handle that. He stared across branches to see how well his attacks had been accepted...

Fulgur blinks as the navi before him takes the attack, rolling through the air to land on a branch next to the young navi...Huh, agile. At the compliment, he grins sheepishly, rapping his helmet in slight embarrassment."Oh, uhm..thanks.."
His eyes widen as Merrill makes another cool sword appear. Ful tries not to fawn over the weapon, and succeeds for the most part, though he couldn't stop a soft"Cooool..." from slipping out. But, at least he'd managed to retain enough focus not to be insultingly casual.
His sparring opponent had cool gloves, too..Then Merrill moves. Fulgur crouches down, ready to defend himself, and manages to block the thrust to the knee with the Kopis that erupted from his buster. Good thing, too. The young navi had no intention of becoming a mere guard...
As Merrill dashes past, Fulgur feels a literally sharp pain in his back."Gaaah!!" He staggers forward, then hears a odd rushing sound, almost like..The boy glances up,sighing. This was gonna hurt....
After that attack ends, Merrill would see him kneeling and using a hand to support himself."OK.....that stung...but still, a amazing attack..." Ful stands up,rotating his shoulders and candles the Hermes Armor. No use for speed,at the moment...Raising his buster, he fires four times, seeming to miss...but suddenly lightning erupts between the shots, forming a large square net of pure electricity. After that, Ful fires into the foliage, bringing large branches slamming down like war hammers.
Merrill was having some success against Fulgar so far. However, he knew it wasn't enough. He struck two of his three attacks. He was disappointed. However, he had an effect, and the blade to the back seemed to slow his opponent immensely. As Fulgar fired his four shots, Merrill didn't move, cocking his head to the side, letting his guard down enough for him to get shocked. He was surprised when the electricity zapped him. Fulgar had tricked him well with that move. He let out a small yelp, looking up, dropping Hope, just in time to see a heavy branch falling down. However, he was too slow to dodge, as the electricity momentarily stunned him. The branch landed on him hard, the weight crushing the support of the branch he stood on.
He fell, and he fell hard into another branch. It too, snapped, and Merrill found himself falling farther down. As he passed a rather large branch, He reached out, and used the branch to alter his path off to the side, closer to the trunk. He did this two or three more times, finally landing on a branch several feet in diameter. He shook his head, keeping his focus and pushing his temper down. His head was hurting considerably for the moment.
"Hmph. Lucky shot, to have hit such a large branch. I was stupidly careless. I will not make that mistake again!"
Merrill stretched his shoulders, and his arms, as his regerative properties lowered his headache. He then took a running start and leapt up, his 7 white wings unfurling wide. He beat them a few times, using up what energy he had not lost in reserve to propel him upwards quicker.
"I lost a good bit of stored power there... I guess I won't be able to use that attack... I guess I'll try a different tactic!"
After only a few seconds, he emerged from the hole he had came in and hovered above Fulgar. He had lost some of his glow, and the sigil barely pulsated beneath his feet.
"I will hand you credit. You have good acting skills. You fooled me with that attack."
He raised his hand, acquiring his two hand sword out of thin air. He raised it and pointed it at Fulgar.
"However, it is going to take a lot of that to take me down!"
He darted in a dive towards his opponent, passing by without attacking. He landed behind Fulgar, turned, and threw Hope at his target. He then sprinted at Fulgar, making a quick sign with his hands, as if he was in prayer. When he pulled them back, one was bright with a white light, the other with black. He slams his hand at Fulgar's chest, then slams the other at his stomach. He repeats this again several times, until the light fades, and as it does, he does a back flip and lands on his feet.
Life and Death appear, and Merrill grabs them. The sigil that faintly glowed popped, a small flash of light exploding outward. Merrill then dashed again, empowered by the sigil, and using a 1,2 thrust, attacked Fulgar. As he darted past, he turned and threw Life and Death, using the rotational force to do a back flip as his back foot touched the ground mid-rotation. He landed just shy of the hole he had appeared from. He then started breathing, catching his breath, already planning his next strike. His body's glow started flickering, him realizing that to keep up the intensity, he needed to draw more power and not lose it next time.

Fulgur blinks as Merrill is sent falling. Oops...he'd underestimated the weight of the branch.... The boy winces at the sound of snapping branches and crashing, then watches anxiously until his opponent reappears, breathing a sigh of releif. Oh good...he's ok...Well, sort've.He seemed, understandably, peeved about the whole thing.
When Merrill dives at him, Fulgur crouches down in readiness, grunting as the palm slams hammer into him.Oddly, the young navi felt...weaker."What?" He looks at Merrill, blinking as the other navi rushes at hin, giving him two lunging strikes with his swords, and making him stumble back with pained grunts.'What....why am I so slow? What's up with me feeling so weak..'
He shakes his head, focusing. 'Ok...just concentrate..And don't freak out. This is a spar only, so you won't be dead meat...' His breath puffs in and out as he thinks and considers. Deciding on a action, the boy nods. He'd wait till the storm really started, but for now lets see if he could take this foe down without..that. The boy runs at Merril, forming a Kopis, then enlarging it by channeling lightning. Ful then proceeds to let out a series of strikes.
