How Capcom Can Revive MegaManFound this article while poking around the net, it was a pretty decent read and the guy has some fair points (minus his lack of love for BN, but I admit I and most of us here are biased towards getting more BN) Anyway, it also talks about "Maverick Hunter" a MegaMan game that was in development by a studio called Armature, which was an offshoot of Retro Studios (Metroid Prime series) There's a demo footage reel and I have to say I would've loved to play this iteration of MegaMan. Anyway I know we have threads from time to time to commiserate on the apparent death of our favorite blue robot, but this article sparked an idea in me. Not that we'd necessarily be able to do anything to revive him, but I think it might be fun to talk about what Capcom would have to do to revitalize the series. Thoughts? I personally think Maverick Hunter might have been a step in the right direction, and let's not even get started on Legends 3. We all know how we feel about that one.

I don't like Maverick Hunter. It looks like just another generic FPS that doesn't cater to old fans who enjoy the gameplay of the original series, nor is it anything reasonably close to breaking in to mainstream. The demo looks hella sweet, but they have to make at least 9~ hours of it and keep it from going stale.
In some ways I'm glad it was canned, in other ways I'm dissapointed in Capcom for canning three games at once (Legends, MMPU2 or whatever, and Maverick Hunters.)

I see what you're saying, but it looked like there was at least some aspect of "steal weapons from enemies" and the acrobatic combat seemed like a nice addition to a character who can kick-jump up walls.
I don't doubt that it'd be a challenge to keep it from going stale, but it was an offshoot of Retro Studios, and if they could reinvent Metroid while keeping to the roots, I would've at least liked for them to have a chance to pull that off with MegaMan as well.
That said, I think we need some good old fashioned sidescrolling MegaMan pick-your-boss-get-their-weapon awesomeness.
But not this 8-Bit stuff that 9 and 10 were. While they were good games, they didn't really do much for getting new players to come to the series.
All that said, Might No.9 seems to be doing all of that, and better. So what chance does MegaMan have? Say what you will about Nintendo, but I really do think they should buy up Capcom (or at least the rights to MegaMan) Surely anything they'd do with the character wouldn't be worse than what Capcom is doing, which at best is starting development of games and then canning them, and at worst just flat out ignoring the rich potential for the character and the series, and ignoring the dedication of his fans.

Legends 3, MM Universe, MM Online, Maverick Hunter.
Tbh, I had thought something like Maverick Hunter would have been awesome for a long time before ever hearing about it, but there were a few things about the video I was unsure about. The way they made the buster (machine gun/missile for "charged shots") didn't do it for me. I also thought X looked weird =X
The gravity grenade looked cool, and the dash would have been fun at first. If they kept to the formula of getting special weapons, finding Armor and power ups, and playing as Zero then I'd've totally eaten that up -- and I'm sure they would have of development wasn't canceled.
But like the other 3 games, it's just a game that could have been, but sadly never was.

After watching some of the Megaman Online gameplay vids (from years ago...),I question whether or not it would've been fun. It looks like a 3D-ish MMX1 to me.
Mighty #9 looks promising,I say...though we'll see how real the hype is once it's not longer in Beta-testing.
