If I might make a suggestion: we could do a MMM smash tournament of sorts. Create a bracket on challonge, after gathering names of those interested in participating, and put them in 1 v 1, two stock, 7:00 mins, best of 3 matches, double elimination.
This set up allows player to go "on demand". For example, if Steve and I are against eachother, we can play whenever the 2 of us are on simultaneously, without our scedueled game interrupting others attempt to play.
If you are concerned about the tournament taking forever because of the lax schedule (or I suppose the lack there of), I've found that other similar online tornaments lay out some very strict ground rules during the waiting period.
What I find works out the best, is having anywhere from a 2-5 day limit per round (I would recommend 3 or 4 for us, since we are an active community, but people seem to be busy from time to time). To support this, we make a thread for each round, and require all players to organize their play time in that thread. If we reach the end of day 5, and the match has not occurred, the player who failed to show up / failed to communicate with their opponent shall be eliminated (or knocked down into losers), to keep things flowing.
If you are interested, but think it would take a lot of work, I'd be happy to sort it out. It's about time I got off of my lazy butt, and did something good for this forum.
