Merrill was blind in the smoke. He couldn't see. He could barely hear, the cyclone's noise was ringing in his ears. He took off, heading upwards, until he was out of the smoke. However, there was a loud his, and both Merrill and Healer were sent backwards, and a gyser of water missed them both by about a yard. Merrill was now severaly unable to hear or see. He was frustrated, and was in litte position to do anything. He floated slowly towards what he thought was the mountain, but being unable to see more than a foot was quite aggrivating. He finally saw some rock, and he went to land on it.
Then he noticed something shiny. He thought it was the end of some blade. The spear? He didn't bother to find out. Using his control over water, he aimed one of the gysers to sent a massive torrent of water in front of him, blasting at what ever was there. He then sent another wave of energy, followed by taking off, nearly cutting his head as he missed a jagged rock by inches. He aimed upwards, and landed on a ledge several yards above where he had been. Healer threw fire down below until they landed. Still near blinded, but now able to see a few feet in front of him. Merrill started beating his wings to clear the smoke/steam. He noticed that Healer and himself was barely standing on any plantform, maybe two to three feet across. However, they were standing. Merrill looked below, to see what was going on down there....

Rikaru was beginning to get annoyed at Jax's disappearance into the ground. He was sure the navi wasn't a coward, and would run from this fight. But hiding underground leaving him to play baby sitter wasn't ideal either. Before he could continue that train of thought though, the lava slowly stopped gushing forth, which caught his attention. Chalking it up to something Jax had done, he tensed, ready to act at a moments notice.
Instead of Jax though, his reflexive reaction was wasted on the sudden torrent of water that spilled forth, instantly cooling the lava on contact. The hissing sound of steam raising caused Rikaru to spin and swing his spear in a wide ark passing through empty air. ' Bah...need to focus...' He thought to him self, not realizing till now how tense this waiting game made him. Trying to calm himself some he stood at full attention, spear in hand and slowly tried to peer through the steam that billowed forth around him.
Sight would not be the saving factor to announce Jax's return to the field though, the sudden burst of rock as Jax lept from the earth caught Rikaru's ear, who spun to face the threat. Though all he could see was the silhouette of him, and the massive weapon he swung down upon him. Having no time to react like most would in this situation, namely getting the heck outta the way, he did the opposite actually. He stood still and let the massive weapon cleave into his body, though where it struck, sand poured forth from the wound, not fragmented data. The axe passed through his body with ease, like a hot knife through butter, his body turning to sand as the blade continued its path, finally slamming into the rock between his feet.
Rikaru stood there now, almost in half, the trail of the axes path void of his body now, but then sand began filling the huge gash, and as it filled slowly mended into his usual form and attire. Rikaru couldn't help but let a slight smirk pass over his face, knowing Jax likely wasn't expecting something like that. They both had their fair share of tricks, that was for sure.
Rikaru was about to retaliate now while he had an opening, but instead was blasted by a sudden blast of water courtesy of Merrill, his cloths once again drenched and dripping from the water soaked into the cloth. Suddenly though, before the follow up attack could strike, he dashed forward, driving his spear forward towards Jax's chest with all the strength he could muster, releasing his grip on the weapon after the strike. Continuing his momentum he kicked off the ground, leaping up above Jax, and becoming lost in the haze of steam as he clawed his was up the face of the mountain, finding another ledge so far unoccupied, to use as his next vantage point.

[bgcolor=392600] His strike struck home and cut through Rik like butter , leaving a sizable crack in the ground beneath him. As Rik's body melted back together Jax leaped back slightly, dragging his axe through the ground along with him by his left hand.
The would be assassin, now thoroughly drenched from the geyser waters lunged at him spear first. Jax rose his weapon to front and stopped the piercing strike dead cold. Above his head he saw his attacker leaped onto the cliff face, scrambling up the side.
The water continued to burst from the pathway onto the still cooling lava. Steam poured into the air, shrouding the airborne Merril and fleeing Rik from Jax's site. He didn't have to remedy the situation, he could feel Riks movements along the cliff face.
Jax made a crescent moon gesture with his right arm starting from the bottom and going up. At the peak he slammed his fist palm open into the ground, and immediately the slab of rock Rik had perched himself on bounced up in recoil, flipping the navi into the air and dislodging the ledge entirely, sending it plummeting into the mist.
The motion repeated, albeit cut short with just a pullback and another slam, rather than the motion before. This time when he connected a large rock launched out of the wall at rocket speeds at the still in the air Rik.

Merrill, who was pretty much blind from the steam at this point, headed straight up after his assault. He climbed and climbed, the steam heating up his armor, and the steam also a pain to breathe in. He finally saw the sun, and moved to the side in order to get away from the steam entirely. When he looked down, he saw rocks flying off the mountain. He was glad he moved.
"Hmm... What to do here, what to do here..."
After thinking for a moment, he nodded to Healer, who had sat on his shoulder. She rained a cascade of fire down below, in a wide spread, hoping to hit anything and everything. Meanwhile, Merrill charged up some energy, and then muttered under his breath. The two blades of his swooped down through the smoke, one covered in a blue, aqua energy, the other with just a bit of white light. After a few moments the blades retreated, the Kunai around his neck started glowing, and then it left the chain and like a bullet, aimed itself through the smoke, and headed towards the closest target, Rikaru, wherever he was.
When the Kunai returned, Merrill crossed his blades, then slashed them in the air, several times, causing X energy shock waves, to rain down as he swung the blades repeatedly in the X motion.
Merrill hoped that they had enough distance between Rikaru and Jax, that they couldn't respond with close ranged attacks through the smoke. However, to be safe, Merrill moved to his right, making sure that their current location couldn't be tracked, if someone hand followed the attacks that the pair rained down.
The last thing he did, however, was summon a tiny butterfly, which hovered at his side.

Rikaru struggled to see through the thickening steam, finally using his powers to create a mini whirlwind around him, helping to keep a small area clear about him. Just as he could see a few feet around himself though, the ledge he stood on began shaking. Before he could react it suddenly bucked him into the air, the rock its self tumbling down the mountain into the haze below.
Now airborne, Rik was trying to think fast on how to regain control of the situation. He was quickly interrupted by a follow up stone, that shot out from the mountain side as well. Reacting rather then thinking saved him from a painful impact. As the rock rocketed towards him, he deftly flipped him self around in the air, allowing the rock to meet his feet.
His slick move still resulted in unexpected results. As he bent his legs to absorb some of the momentum of the rock, him and the boulder spun slightly. Anyone looking on would see what looked like a navi crouched on a rock...upside down...
As the two continued to slowly spin, Rikaru decided to abandon ship, kicking back with all his might, launching him self back towards the rocky mountain, while sending the large rock hurdling into the sky, unbeknown to him, but managing to block a portion of flames that would other wise have come close to hitting him.
Rikaru quickly flipped head over heels again, managing a sketchy landing on the mountain side once again, clinging to a few hand holds as he grappled with the rocky face to find some solid ground. Soon after a stinging pain ran through his right shoulder though, the Kunai hitting home.
Almost losing his grip from the sudden pain, he tried to turn to see what the cause was, but the blade already had dislodged its self and was returning to the sky. He caught a glimpse of it as it disappeared into the haze, mentally cursing that twerp that was interfering with his work.
Luckily he didn't have to deal with any of the cross patterned energy waves that Merrill sent down, none hitting close enough to his new position to worry him. He instead chose to allow sand to begin flowing from his right hand, having let go of one of his hand holds in doing so. From the free flowing sand he began forming multiple miniature glass shards, very thin, but long and razor sharp. He continued making them, each one hovering in place as he finished it.
Having had enough of 'bug boy's' interference, Rikaru swiped his arm in an arc up and out towards the sky's, not knowing his exact position, he caused his amassed shards to fan out and pepper the sky's with them, hoping some would find their mark.

The fire, rained down around him, truly this 'opposition' was blind in the steam. Even the spam of X-energy waves did nothing. Firing blind into the fray without even knowing if your target was in there isn't exactly an efficient tactic. With the duo thoroughly distracted by each other Jax was presented with the option of leaving, or staying.
He contemplated it for only a moment and decided it would be better to not have to worry about them following him. Jax rose his left arm and pointed his weapon in the general direction of where was. Shortly after doing so various scalding hot rocks shot from the ground, throwing themselves as if from catapults on queue into the air, penetrating the sauna-like haze Jax had created, revealing that his target was in fact not there but more to the side. He adjust his weapons direction and the volley of rocks shot off again.
Jax lowered his weapon while raising his right fist, clenching it tightly as it did so. From within the side of the wall in which Rik gripped a small gurgle hymned through, subtle at first but before it could be loud enough to really hear over the commotion a massive navi sized column of water shot out of the wall with enough force that it didn't actually start descending into the forest below for a solid 10ft.

Merrill noticed the rocks that were to his left just in time to realize that there was a second set coming. He had just enough time to dodge most of the rocks headed his way except the last, which clipped his shoulder and wing. The butterfly he summoned was deleted instantly. He fell sideways, spinning in multiple directions, tring to regain his balance, as Healer hung on for dear life. He managed to get control just in time before he would have hit the mountain, and he managed to land safely, barely on a small ledge. He looked down and he watched the huge ledge rock Jax fired off, and he couldn't tell if Rikaru was on it or not. It mattered not, although somewhere Merrill wished he was sent flying by Jax. Reguardless, unable to fly properly, Merrill used the remainder of his stored energy to slam into the ledge, causing it to break away, and head downwards, where he hoped to crush Jax. As he saw another ledge, he grabbed Healer, and jumped.
They landed safely. Merrill set Healer down, and sat, watching to see if Jax or Rikaru was crushed by the decent sized ledge/former cliff. Merrill hoped that he would get lucky and strike both of them, if Rikaru had not been defeated, or sent flying already.

Okay but seriously.
Style: Shast is the winner here, easily. A lot of his text flowed nicely and had some flavor and personality to it. You other two did okay in this regard, but you can do better. Let's inject some more personality, people! Also - Y U NO GRAMMAR, GUYZ!? Quick's and (especially) Diamond's posts were full of distracting grammar and spelling errors. It's secondary to the actual roleplay, of course, but it still factors into the score because it makes it that much harder to get involved and immersed as a reader. Shast did better overall, but there were times where his grammar skills also decided to take a vacation, especially near the ends of posts - rushing to finish, perhaps?
Diamond: 19/30 (6.3) Quick: 21/30 (7) Shast: 25/30 (8.3)
Articulation: Shast takes top honors again. His description of the scenery early on was especially nice. His attack descriptions were also generally nice and detailed without feeling too long-winded. However, as the battle wore on, less and less attention was paid to detail. There were at least a couple neat bits in each post, though. Both others made a pretty decent go at this too, with some relevant environmental details, but they weren't as consistent, abundant, or well-written.
Diamond: 15/20 (7.5) Quick: 15/20 (7.5) Shast: 17/20 (8.5)
Balance: I felt like you all took a bit too long to actually take damage - I was getting bored with the whole "no one gets hurt" thing at the beginning there. Jax NEVER got hurt, and that underground thing, while handled surprisingly well, rubs me the wrong way just a tiny bit. Quick comes out on top here for at least taking some actual punishment towards the end when it made sense to. Diamond gets a bit of credit for the description of smoke inhalation (though it was actually steam, oops) and the gracing blow at the end. At least there were no glaring version violations or mismatches (though as a note, even if they're even you still need to select a version at the start to set their overall power level).
Diamond: 13/20 (6.5) Quick: 15/20 (7.5) Shast: 12/20 (6)
Length: Y'all did pretty much okay here. For the most part, things lasted right about as long as they needed to to get the point across, sometimes with a little extra thrown in. There were a few times Diamond's posts felt a little overlong considering how little he actually ended up doing, though, and Quick's posts towards the end could have used some beefing up to add in more detail and flavor. Still, not bad.
Diamond: 8/10 Quick: 9/10 Shast: 8/10
Emotion: You all did okay here too. I felt like Diamond was most immersed in the character, and that came across in the text; a lot of it was "empathetically written" in a way that places the reader into the mind and feelings of Merrill. Jax had some nice character beats in the intro post, too, and we saw some of his insight later on. Quick's writing felt the most detached to me, but it was still perfectly serviceable. I was never left questioning Rikaru's motivations.
Diamond: 7/10 Quick: 6/10 Shast: 7/10
Judge Points: An average of your scores in the real sections.
Diamond: 7/10 Quick: 7/10 Shast: 8/10
Final Scores:
Diamond: 69/100 (B) Quick: 73/100 (B) Shast: 77/100 (B)
SHAST IS WINNER!
