--Appearance:
VideoMan is a tall (6' 3”) slender navi with a humanoid shape but unusual anatomy. He has no identifiable muscle tone and appears impossibly slim. He is always naked, not that anyone could tell. His skin is dark grey with green markings in the shape of arrows on his pelvis and thighs, and rings on his arms, neck, and shins. There is also a small green square where his belly button would be. His chest is larger than the rest of his torso and extends out like a breastplate. On the front of this is a large, round display resembling a button, which usually has the “play” triangle from media players on it. It also features the fast forward and rewind arrow symbols on either side, and these light up when he uses the skills of the same name (additionally, the symbol on the chest display changes to match). Sometimes when VideoMan encounters errors, the symbol on the display will change to a red “stop” square. There's an optical disc drive, complete with eject button, on his abdomen. Additionally, speakers are built into his chest, just above his chest display and rewind/fast forward arrows.
On his shoulders, he has round pauldrons. The one on his left shoulder is mostly dark grey, but has a red stripe forming a ring along its center. The one on the right is mostly a light grey metal, but one section (facing directly out and away from the shoulder) is green and slightly indented.
His wrists are adorned with large, cylindrical tape spools made of the same grey metal as his right pauldron. These serve to store and partially cover a large amount of ultra-high-grade, nearly indestructible VHS-style videotape. The spools can work at varying speeds to play, fast forward, and rewind the tape. He can also manipulate how much is stored within the spools and how much is loose. He has a high degree of direct control over the unspooled tape through telepathy-esque movement manipulation, allowing it to act like a prehensile appendage. The tape always extends between the two wrist spools, connecting them.
VideoMan's head is made mostly of the grey metal that his spools are formed from. The top of his head resembles a helmet, with a large flat “slab” of metal topped by a dome. The “slab” includes a small, downwards-pointing triangular protrusion that fills the space between VideoMan's eyes. On this triangle is a small projector. The rectangular front of the slab itself is adorned with composite AV plugs - red, white and yellow inputs for analog video and audio like you'd find on an old TV or VCR. Where his ears would normally be, VideoMan has two metal knobs. The left one rotates as his projector runs, and he can turn it manually to adjust the speed and direction of playback. The right one serves no actual purpose. He often finds them fun to play with when idling. He can still hear despite his lack of visible ears.
VideoMan's face is a slightly lighter shade of grey than most of his body. His eyes are red. He has a fairly normal mouth, save for the green teeth within. He has no visible nose, but this is merely aesthetic - his sense of smell is fully functional (how else could he enjoy the cinema classic The Scent of Mystery?). His chin is the same dark grey as his neck.
--Personality: VideoMan is obsessed with video - films, music videos, TV shows, commercials, you name it. He's a bit of a nerd when it comes to the matter, both in terms of the technology and what ends up onscreen. He does his best to be a generally nice person, but he has something of a mean streak that sometimes wins him over, especially if people make fun of or disrespect the old technology he holds dear.
He has a bit of an ego, but not because he believes he is all-powerful or unbeatable. Instead, he admires himself very highly as a filmmaker, critic, and technical problem-solver. He can generally get along with others fairly well as long as they do not interfere with his plans, threaten his well-being, or violate his sense of self-worth.
He also has a huge appreciation for older, physical media storage formats (as one would expect considering his themes and abilities). He loves Betamax, VHS (his personal favorite), LaserDisc, VCD, DVD, Blu-ray and the like, and will defend their merits in any debate over all-digital distribution (despite their almost complete obsolescence). He is intricately familiar with their technical specifications and capabilities.
--Background: VideoMan is a rather old navi, and, under the command of his original operator Viddy, once fought (and lost to) Megaman in a tournament battle Viddy had rigged in his favor. Eventually abandoned by Viddy, he wandered the net for a time before stumbling onto the location of a vault containing hundreds of formerly-thought-lost camera negatives of classic films. He managed to work out a deal with the Electopian Museum of Cultural History to have them preserved, and also landed a job with the museum, helping to curate their collection of films and videos on both physical and digital formats and serving as a film historian. He's featured as the host of the museum's video and film wing interactive guided video tour and also holds occasional lectures and screenings there. In his spare time he wanders the net of his own accord. He sometimes considers the possibility of making his own digital movies in the net starring navis, though he has yet to fully commit to this pet project.
