Nightwind is a 7' 3" horse warrior. His fur is dark grey, his eyes pitch black with glowing, icy blue irises. He wears armor crafted from the scales of some other-dimensional dragon creature; it is light in weight but provides good protection. The armor is midnight blue save for those pieces not made up of scales – the boots, belt, knee guards, and bladed elbow guards, as well as some trim. These are made of a sort of other-dimensional gold, far stronger than Earth gold. His mane and tail are not made of hair, but of dark energy – black at its center with fringes of blue. He can extend and manipulate this energy as he wishes; usually it looks like hair blowing in the wind. He has large wings that appear to be those of a bat, which he usually keeps partially folded behind him.

Nightwind has always been strong and confident, stoic and largely humorless. He is intelligent enough to get by most of the time, but not exactly cunning. He seeks out companionship, but is easily burnt by it...
--Background: Darkness is not always evil. Not too far removed in the multiverse from the place known as the Dark Dimension is another dimension filled with shades of eternal night. In that particularly literal sense, it is in fact darker than the Dark Dimension; the days appear as midnight on Earth, the nights are inky and impenetrable. Once, a very long time ago indeed, Nightwind was a resident of this dimension. He had no family, but everyone in his city knew of him. He was the captain of the guard, sworn to protect and serve his people. He was experienced in combat and versed in speechcraft; his skill unmatched by anyone he knew of.
Decades ago, the 631st Autumnal Assault came to his city. It was chosen as the capital of the newest Dark Dimension colony, and it was his task to protect it. He failed in that task.
Lord Samhain, ruler of the Dark Dimension, took him as a prisoner of war, bringing him back to his evil homeland. Eventually he was chosen to become Samhain's personal slave. The little kindnesses his master would occasionally show him shined like a beacon of light through the torment – like love and caring. Samhain encouraged Nightwind to think of himself not just as a slave, or after rising in rank, a soldier or general. He was given a special power that fulfilled one of his desires – in his case, a desire to be stronger in order to better serve Samhain. He was encouraged to feel special, to feel as if he were Master's favorite, Master's pet, Master's love. And that sick, twisted love is what kept him fiercely loyal and defensive. A classic case of Stockholm Syndrome.
Eventually the Dark Dimension invaded Earth's internet, and Nightwind led the assault. These events have been erased from history by the intervention of Vinyl and Eon, and the resulting dark colony no longer exists. Its otherworldly inhabitants were wiped out, and those involved in the invasion or the failed resistance against it were left with only faint, dreamlike memories of what had transpired. But during the invasion, Lord Samhain had stripped Nightwind of his powers for failing him - and in that moment, unbeknownst to him or his evil master, he was reformatted as a navi. As such, he remains as the sole tangible artifact of the invasion. He remembers his home and his time in the Dark Dimension, and has a vague idea of how he wound up where he is now, but does not remember details of the invasion. However, he assumes - correctly - that Samhain had taken away his power and abandoned him to this place, and - incorrectly - that the invasion was a failure because of him. He maintains a faint hope his master will one day somehow contact him, but until then he has little purpose and is in something of a depression. He has latched on to Xyzillentz, someone who he found himself partnered with without remembering how they met - though he shares some faint memories of the invasion as well. For now, he is the closest thing to family or friends that he has.
