#s://i~imgur~com/U4Xclbh~png Feint's previous encounter with the villagers of Whazzap during her travel with Burai hadn't even been a full week ago, so she could only assume that it was fresh on their minds. That being the case, it would be keen to avoid the village proper entirely and enter the canyon that led to the temple without catching their attention, which she managed to pull off given her memory from the previous trip.
She had requested for Grom to send the medical response teams ahead of time to this location and the next so that they'd be ready to tend to the victims immediately -- she'd have to be sure to direct them to avoid interacting with the villagers as well, lest they complicate matters with their uncanny traditions.
Having made it to the temple, Cherish pulled out a PET that she was clearly very unfamiliar with handling and looked for one of those "Cyber Cores" that Burai had mentioned during their time together. She'd find one eventually, and then she'd jack a Net Navi into it after finagling around with the device enough.
" So... aren't I supposed to be out there with you? "
Shine had made it into the Cyber Core, but it was a different plane than where Cherish was still standing. As for how she'd survived the Cyber World exploding in recent events: she, Regis, and the rest with her were spared that fate by the offline servers at NIA HQ, which likely contributed to the base itself still being intact afterward until Joker's presence had said otherwise.
" You'll have to figure that part out on your own. Two other Navis managed to get out into the Real World at my last location though, so now it's your turn to solve that mystery. "
" Mkay, should I send you a signal once I've figured it out? "
" No, I don't even want to know you're here. "
The plan here was that Feint would combat whatever enemy was ahead while Shine would sneak forward to free the hostages. Cherish wasn't exactly renown for her intuition, so if she was able to detect Shine's activity then her adversary would most likely be able to as well. Shine, on the other hand, was at least somewhat renown for her ability to lay low in a pinch.
-- -- -- With that plan set in motion, Cherish would make her way forward in the temple now -- not being too indiscreet herself, as she didn't want to end up getting ambushed even if she was ultimately determined to get caught. So she'd quietly sneak along in the meantime, ideally sizing up the scene before making her presence known so that she could adjust for any unseen circumstances before committing to her predetermined course of action.

Moving through the area to find the others, they would be scattered out and about. And perhaps the sign that made the ghastly scene this time was what happened to the individuals as their faces were discolored, the reason why visible due to the results that occurred to their necks. They had been strangled, dying as a result of the lack of oxygen or what became of their necks from the force. It made things look worse for the potential survivors of the scene, as time would be much of the essence than from the sadistic attempts taken from the Swan of earlier. And after traveling further, she could see who the likely culprit was. Something with blue skin and a segmented tail with purple and green patterning. A purple helmet with a patterned ruby color, a pair of emerald earrings, and two large drill-like devices with spikes at the top and green snakes embedded with amethyst circling coiling around the bottom, a black top connected to two shoulder pads with scale-pattern, a pink waist cloth, and a pair of gloves and bracers. There was also a transparent pink veil that covered the face save for her red eyes.

#s://i~imgur~com/8w4a7DV~png Cherish tried to hide her disturbance at the scene around her as she pressed on. The strangulation of the victims reminded her of the first time she'd tried fighting Faith -- she'd thought she was winning when Faith was unable to hurt her through her suit, but it turned out to be her undoing when she realized the suit wasn't absorbing any kinetic energy out of Faith's pitifully weak strikes. While the suit protected her from a lot of things, it couldn't supply her body with oxygen, and so she'd lost that fight when Faith managed to put her in a hold that she couldn't break due to the suit having no energy to give. Cherish's own physical strength, while respectable for a woman of her frame, was still inferior to Faith's, so without supplementation she was easily outclassed.
She'd of course implemented countermeasures since then, but if suffocation would be this enemy's primary method of dealing with its victims then Cherish wasn't exactly walking into an advantageous match up.
" ... "
The point wasn't to win, though.
It was just to distract long enough that Shine could free the captives, then she could retreat if she needed to and evaluate whether or not it was better to re-engage or to go assist Faith and Jake. And now, having turned the corner, Cherish caught sight of the culprit just ahead: a figure she could best describe as a "Cyberpunk Medusa".
" I figured there'd be another one of you here. "
Time was of the essence, and so there was none to waste getting the serpent's attention and subsequently getting the necessary information out of it as well. She made no effort to hide the fact that she'd already encountered the Swan at her previous location, indirectly declaring herself as a formidable opponent so that the target could be painted on her head from the getgo -- but she wasn't trying to be too obvious about it, either.
" Where are the remaining survivors? "
On the other side, Shine was still managing her way around the Cyber Core, but finally came across what looked like another entrance to the temple from where she was standing. It was on the other side of a chasm though, only crossable by a constantly shifting, electromagnetic "bridge" -- or what would more commonly be called "The Wave Road".
She didn't have the same properties as Xion or Hollow to be able to interface with it perfectly, but if Edge was able to, then surely she could as well, even if only barely. She wouldn't need her combat abilities for her assigned task, after all, just her prestigious and oh so remarkable talent for sneaking in and out of a place undetected.

While it had taken some time, Shine would be able to find the strange path that she desired. Interacting with it would take some additional effort, but not enough where it would be a waste of time to figure it out. Crossing this bridge, both literal and figurative, would let her interface and make it out to see what looked to be snakes roaming about. They were clearly swarming a certain position, but Shine herself couldn't quite make out why they were doing so. It didn't appear as if anything was there, or why they would be so adamant to be performing such a deed at that in what looked like an otherwise unoccupied space.
"So you beat that stupid bird, did you? That makes this simpler then!"
Cherish was having a different interaction at the time. From the ground came three snakes, the very field around them being turned into a venomous marsh almost immediately as the Medusa began slithering toward her immediately, charging past her with just brute force without wasting any more words. She had managed to accomplish the goal of setting the target on her head, but not quite the alternative goal of gaining an answer to her question.

The isolated swarming of the snakes wouldn't have meant anything in particular to most folk, but to Shine, every small detail was of utmost importance. And that does mean every. small. detail.
Fortunately, Cherish had prepped her well enough in advance not to waste any time doing something stupid, like writing down the various colors of the snakes or how many stripes they each had, assuming they had any at all.
" Oh right! I need to give grumpy 'ol Cher-bear the signal that I'm here! "
Cherish had told her not to send any signal, but Shine and short-term memory weren't the closest of companions. Her dialogue to herself just then, despite carrying her regular chirp, was still quiet enough not to alert the snakes nearby. She mustn't have been too far from where Feint was, either -- she was just able to pick up their voices, so she knew exactly what sort of discrete sign to give.
Over on that end of the situation, Cherish's fears were quickly becoming reality as the corrosive terrain was already making it more difficult to breathe. The fact that she was slowly sinking in it didn't help, but she could at least hold herself together for a little longer while trusting Shine not to screw anything up for once.
" ! "
As the snake-girl went straight to business and came charging at her, Cherish's only concern was to watch the tail, so she ended up taking the brunt of the tackle but was able to bounce back to her feet relatively quickly. Her suit still absorbed that impact, but her focus was still pretty scattered to be able to strike back. She hadn't gotten the information she needed, after all.
" Tell me what I asked and we'll make this as simple as can be. " And that was when Shine's "signal" arrived. Cherish tried to hide her surprise at the sight of it, and fortunately her fury was able to overpower her shock so that her face didn't immediately reveal the fact that she'd brought somebody else with her.
{ ThE sIgNaL ::(+)::
} [::BattleChip:WindLv1:v12::]
" O-or I'll... "
Now Cherish had to fumble something out of her mouth to make it sound like this was her doing.
" ... blow... "
She couldn't believe she was saying something so ridiculous just now.
" ... you... "
By now the device was simply sinking into the corrosive floor and leaving just as quickly as it came, which was perhaps just ironic enough to serve as an alibi for her speech pattern right now -- the narrative being that she was just in awe of her trump card crumbling before her eyes rather than the reality of the situation: she was just hastily opening her mouth and letting stupid pour out.
" ... away. "
Those were probably the most painful words she'd ever said, but if it worked then it worked.
Meanwhile, the endeavor wasn't completely useless: the Wind Box did manage to puff a gust of wind that'd find its way through the hallways and bring just enough force behind it to scatter the snakes that had clustered up near where Shine was hiding, perhaps letting her see what all the commotion was about with them.

Looked like she was surprised that she took to the offensive this quickly. But before the fighting could continue, the snake was halted for a time, glancing over to what appeared to be a windbox called forth for the occasion. That... was a strange thing to have summoned to the scene. Was it supposed to help slow her charge enough for her victim to resist her attempts? Maybe it was an attempt to flush out the others that she was here for, since she asked twice? She wasn't quite as blatantly smug as the one before, and it also bothered her that she was sending her attention to someone else instead of what was in front of her. Then she would simply have to render her incapable of worrying about anything else! Her eyes would glow then, a piercing light striking Cherish with the intent to render her to stone as the charge came once again.
Shine's efforts were, at long last, not quite rewarded for her infamous use of her most vaunted tactic. While the snakes had been blown back by the sudden box, what was gathering their attention very much appeared to be an empty space. The snakes were at least preoccupied now, working on the box that had assailed them instead while not clustering back to their previous location just yet.

Alas, Ophiuca seemed finished with this conversation so Feint would just need to keep the fight going for as long as she could.
" Have it your way. "
Cherish shielded her eyes against the naga-girl's own piercing gaze, knowing that she'd narrowly avoided a cold fate just then. She took another look around the area after she'd done so... had the victims all been turned to stone before she'd gotten here?
Regardless, she still didn't have her answer, so at this point it was just up to Shine to solve that case, meaning that the odds weren't exactly in their favor, but there wasn't another option at the moment.
The smaller snakes were beginning to be an issue now, and so Cherish would rip loose what was perhaps the most unimpressive Phantom Waltz of all time as she darted around the area to tag each of them with shots while tagging the snake-queen with blasts that would only entertain the notion of harming her rather than actually doing so. For as unremarkable as it was this time, it generally got the job done when she needed it to.
Over in Shine's situation, the only thing to do now was get closer to the snakes' area of interest to see if she could figure out what was up, and then to move on if nothing came of it before they returned to notice her. In the Cyber World, she could reach her hand into the code of other objects or entities and literally pull strings of data out of them at her whim, or she could sink beneath her own shadow to emerge from another one within her vicinity -- since this was the Real World and it wasn't made of code, and since she was more of an electromagnetic projection than a structure of complex data, she figured those techniques wouldn't work quite as well here, but she'd give it her honest attempt nonetheless to at least see what she was working with as the search continued.

The cursory look around the area did reveal something of a grim realization. There were certainly more kinds of rocks scattered about here and there, the likely fate of some others that weren't victims to the other fate she had seen already. Feint's shots this time weren't nearly as powerful as they usually were, definitely because of the matchup itself as the snakes were destroyed and the shots had suboptimal effect even to the Medusa herself, revealing a gleam in its eyes now that the trigger was pulled. The shot was cast at Feint once more as the lunge was performed, the preparations complete to elevate this to the next stage.
Shine investigating the area further at first seemed to not reveal anything more for her. But when she sought to reach out like the normal for her, knowing full well that it very likely wouldn't apply the same here, she at least managed to start to discern something else as the snakes were slowly making their way back again. She had certainly reached into 'something' then, a strange red substance coming back when her hand passed through a certain area as finally a haze started to appear here and there in her field of vision, as if something was amiss.

" ?!"
Shine retracted her hand immediately when she realized the red substance covering it. Wasn't this "human-juice"? Just how hard did she shove her hand forward?!
It made perfect sense to her now, though: the humans were hiding from the snakes so they must have turned themselves invisible. Quite devious creatures, she had to admit, but in the time span that she'd come up with that narrative, she could see the shadow cast on the wall by the other devious creatures in the vicinity as they were returning from their distraction and nearing the final corner leading to where she was.
" Think Shine, think!"
She'd come across folks in the past that were clever enough to dispel her own illusions and gimmicks, so perhaps she could do something of the sort to get a count of the supposed humans here. Even if she could just see their silhouettes, so could conjure her shadowy-clones to swiftly carrying each of them out all at once.
There was once an opponent that had covering her in some glittery dust while she was hiding in her smoke cloud and they were able to flush her out that way. Perhaps she could do something similar here if she had some similar manner of dust to sprinkle on the area.
She'd need to keep the returning snakes busy for just a little longer though, and over used as it was, another Wind Box was quite literally all that she had available outside of sending a clone to distract them, but she figured she'd need as many hands as she could get. And so, to put the entire plan into motion, she uploaded another series of chips to solve this situation:
[::chip:ElementPoisonLv1:v12::] [::chip:windLv3:v12::] Santa Hat Once per battle the user may add "Ice Element" to all attacks
With them, something that resembled a genie-lamp materialized in her hand that sucked up all of the corrosive substance covering the floor in the area -- that'd help to make breathing easier and it'd let her distraction hold strong for a bit longer as well: another Wind Box.
This one was larger and sturdier than the previous, enough that it blocked off the hallway where the snakes were returning from and was faced to blow them back if they'd tried to approach it as a means to slow them down even more.
With the poison in the area gathered into the lamp, Shine used another item to change its properties to snow instead, and let it spew out of the lamp to coat the area (and presumably the invisible bodies) in a layer that'd ideally let her see their silhouettes now. Granted, this was still technically toxic-snow, but to be fair it didn't exactly make a victim's situation any worse than laying down on toxic-floor and being eaten by snakes already was.
If it worked, all she'd need to then is spawn her myriad of shadow-copies -- one per supposed body -- and make a break for the exit.
" Shit. "
Meanwhile, Cherish's situation was... well, censor-evading-worthy.
Her suit was able to disperse the toxic terrain directly under her feet now, but the fumes would still get to her eventually. Added to that now was whatever the snake girl had been preparing since the start of the encounter, something that Cherish didn't have anyway to prevent, and so she'd need to face it head on. That would probably have been fine until she noticed the gleam in her eyes after she'd handled the smaller snakes.
The damage had already been done at this point, so now she'd take Ophiuca's hits head on in a desperate attempt to finish off the fight before things -- which were already dire -- took a turn for the worst.

Shine's approach was rather simple on a surface level and would easily work when compared to the standard practices of illusions. Luckily for her in this case, rather than the more advanced dilemma that she could have been facing, she was facing a more standard application that allowed her limited skillset to work with it. While figures could be made out from the toxic snow that the people had already been soaking in as well as being assaulted by the venomous snakes, it would be on her to secure as many as she could and make a break for it as the snakes started to become more aggressive. Something on Feint's end had triggered an increase in strength for them as well, as they started to pick up pace to finish what they had started and had already finished numerous times now.
Exactly what it was on the other end was discovered just as well, as the toxic terrain was temporarily halted. And while it was an unwieldly ability her sight had gleaned upon from her, it was something that could be used a bit more flexibly in her hands than they could in many other cases. She would cross her arms in front of her after the shots, before spreading them as the gaze intensified, firing it time and again at the woman in an attempt to render her stone and finish her off. If this wasn't enough, she was just getting started now that her gaze was in full effect just the same.

Shine was making fine progress as it were, her small army of shadowy-clones strolling out of the temple one after the other with a victim in tow. She could produce far more of those copies than one might have assumed, but it wasn't too surprising if one considered that it was just her manipulation of nearby shadows. It stood to reason, then, that the darker and gloomier a place was, the more she could conjure up.
" Ngh... "
Cherish, on the other hand, had stalled for as long as she could.
She'd shielded her eyes from the gaze, of course, but like a bright flash of light, it was able to pierce through her eyelids and hands as the image of the Snake Queen was burning itself into her vision ceaselessly.
She'd find her body stiffening up from the inside, knowing what was coming next then. The only real decision to be made was what pose to make as a statue, and the one taken was only natural given her hatred of birds.
Her suit and the layer of clothing underneath remained unaffected -- they weren't a part of her body, after all. Shine would be able to get her own cargo out of the temple, but wouldn't be able to go any further beyond that just to the nature of the environment, so she'd need to go back the way she came to reach the Cyber Core so that she could jack back out, but that was going to be nothing if not another treacherous journey, to say the least.

Well it looked like the fun was over then. She'd be a statue soon, like the rest. And when she shattered, then it would be all she wrote. At least, that was the intended plan until suddenly Cherish vanished. The connection with the field and the enabled abilities must have allowed for outside intervention through that device. Well, probably because her suit had been unaffected unlike most who were turned to stone. Typical cases involved all layers on the person becoming a statue along with them, but for some reason or another that wasn't the case this time. She would have to better adjust should she encounter her again then with a more powerful application.
That would leave Shine in the perilous situation, one that she was going to have to improvise in order to make that treacherous journey along with the cargo that would be a slight bit more difficult to move. But if she combined the situation with some wit, she could potentially find a way to accomplish both goals... or at least one of them.

" ... "
Faith Nymphra had arrived now, having narrowly survived her own encounter at the Lake and having dropped off Jacob Rayner at a medical facility. She'd tried reaching out to Cherish afterward, but never got a response, so made her way here as quickly as she could to see what became of her.
The victims outside were still being tended to by NIA's medical staff, so now she entered to see what that rescue had cost. There'd been no sign of Queen Ophiuca for some time, but she kept her wits about her as she pressed on into her domain.
It didn't take her long to find the room where the fight had taken place.
" Oh finally, someone's shown up! "
Shine.EXE stepped forward now, having had no way to leave this place with all of the humans unconscious or just outside of the radius of the EM Field that she could interact with. She was holding her own PET, pressing it into Faith's hands as she approached.
" ? "
" Just push this button, riiiight here. "
Shine pressed it herself, initiating her "Jack Out" sequence that pulled her data back through the Cyber Core and into the PET in an instant. She could have technically done that at any time, but trapping herself in the device with nobody to carry it or jack her back in anywhere wasn't the finest predicament.
" And you are? "
" I'm Shine! I can fill you in on what happened here... "
