Pele's Private Lab Network
- - - - Seth Pele was a high-paid software engineer of an agency that held close ties with NIA; generally this was the company that they would reach out to for any contracted work. As a contact with highly-sensitive information, there were numerous security measures put into place to keep not only their work private, but their relationship as well.
This particular network was one of Seth Pele's old experimental labs when he was a lower-ranking contractor, but he has since promoted and had little use for this area. His daughter, Cherish Pele, has used it since as a place to store her own classified information without his knowing.
The Network is mostly empty, all of the old projects and experiments that had been done here having since been relocated or destroyed as a means to remove evidence of its existence. It appeared to be mostly just a pocket of blue cyber space now, a white semi-opaque floor giving one the feeling as is they were simply floating among blue streams of data with nothing of interest to invesigate, save a large valut-like safe somewhere in the distance. This was where Cherish, better known as "Feint", would keep her protected files.

#s://i~imgur~com/U4Xclbh~png Burai would first notice the large metal cube that was Feint's vault of sensitive data seemed to begin disintigrated into the air, as if being deleted.
" You give off the vibe of a 'not-very-social'-type. "
A holographic screen, like the one she been seen using earlier, had just closed out from being in front of her. It was clear that she had just put an additional protective measure in place for that vault of data, removing it from sight and from their access for the time being.
" Fortunately for you, I'm the same way. "
Essentially: she wasn't going to be very chatty and that was probably the way they both prefered it.
" Let's do what we came here for and get started on your hunt, shall we? "

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/340189121500938240/728347473344725113/113~png Burai appeared to only gaze in the direction of the safe as it disappeared, otherwise intrigued by the stark blue of the cyberspace. It was a lot like what a cybercore from the wave world would look like, and yet, the very ground he walked on seemed unfamiliar.
He turned to look up at her, however, as she began talking to him about social, and about her desire to get down to business. He couldn't help but smirk, as he tilted his head back. His only response to her words was to turn his body to one side, spreading his legs to stabilize his stance, and holding his hands out on either side of him, his fiery hand balled into a fist. It was clear that this was a fighter's stance, and, based on the knowledge that there was a human under the hood of this fighter, it was someone trained. Burai knew what they were doing.
His smirk melted away into a more serious, flat line, as he considered the battlefield around him, and he gazed at her through his lonely, heat-sucking eyes. The air was so dull in comparison to what he felt of the wave world back home, but, he would be able to make do. A pulse of energy seemed to emanate from around him, suddenly, as a sheen of some strange power suddenly enveloped his body in a wave of black energy. He was still very visible, but, whatever had happened, his combat prowess seemed to sky rocket - or, perhaps, he had just turned on his combat capabilities, which he had previously been hiding.
"Very well. We'll see what this world's humans have to offer."
What happened next occurred so fast, it was difficult for Feint to keep up; bursts of purple energy, similar to those from his wrist, were ejected from those crimson coils around his ankles, sending Burai gliding to the left, first, and suddenly whirring in a wide arc directly towards her; and he was moving fast. Burai darted up with incredible control of his own movement, the bursting energy from his feet allowing him to change direction in an instant, and, after a fair bit of darting around, just to test out his parameters, Burai suddenly dashed forward, flaming fist at the ready, and went to collide with Feint - she hadn't the time to blink before he was upon her, and, quick as the fist flew -
-- it missed. His fist passed directly through her body, Burai coming to a dead halt in front of her, his fist intangible, his arm up to its elbow through her torso. He stared down at the place where his arm phased through her body, carefully extracted his hand, and took a few paces back. Finding the right frequency to interact with net data was going to be more difficult, then.
He didn't mind if it were difficult, though. So long as he could do it.
Those eyes met Feint's again, and he was off again, this time using his seeming ability to phase through objects to purposefully charge at her, passing right through her, and, while she was potentially distracted, stamp his foot down to turn about on his heel, aiming his hard black fist at her, instead. He was rapidly modulating his frequency as he threw the fist, and, as soon as he felt a frequency that connected - although the punch had little to no force behind it - he began changing it within a few thousandths of a hertz to get to the right amount. If Feint would allow it, each hit seemed to gain more and more force behind it as Burai flitted around her, moving around faster and with more confidence now that he seemed to be in the right area, but, still only hitting with barely enough force to even move Feint.
It was very sudden that he landed just in front of her, dropping onto his knees, and kicked off with enough force to flip himself into the air, a fire wrapping around his leg as he aimed a bicycle kick directly for her chin. Something told her that this attack was made with lethal intent, as though Burai had finally found what he was looking for, in that small span of time adapting everything he knew.

Feint welcomed the first incoming strike, as her paradigm required it, but a perplexed expression wrote over her face as the punch simply passed through her body instead. She let Burai continue, as he seemed confused by it as well, or as if further adjustments needed to be made. It at least gave her useful insight that he could phase in and out of tangibility: not something she was totally unfamiliar with, given her crossings with Remnant in the past, but this seemed to be different.
He continued his assault with a myriad of blows, but despite making physical contact with each one, she couldn't feel any of the kinetic energy behind the swings being absorbed by her suit. That was concerning, considering her position.
And as the last kick came, she made no effort to evade this one as well, if she even could really.
" ... "
It landed with a resounding "clang!" as the metal of his boot connected with the bone in her chin, but she didn't budge an inch. Her hair swept back by the wind behind the blow, but otherwise it had been as if he'd hit a statue -- her head unmoving as her vibrant blue eyes stayed calmly locked with his lonely ones.
She raised her gun to fire what appeared to be a relatively harmless shot, but she was certain she would get a reaction out of it: her intentions were unmasked that this was an attack made purely to study him, and he'd know it without any doubt.
" You can hit harder than that. "
She remained in place again, letting him continue to find his bearing now that he was more adapted to his environment and strike at her once more.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/340189121500938240/728347473344725113/113~png She, too, seemed somewhat taken aback by the fact that he phased through her body, but, she seemed somewhat confused by the fact that none of his hits seemed to connect with any brutal force behind them. However, the bicycle kick did connect, but she did not so much as flinch in response to it. It was like smashing his foot against solid stone, a sensation he knew from his own world, as if she possessed the Super Armor Ability Wave.
What interested him, however, was how she recovered so rapidly; he could tell he had connected for a solid blow, and, yet, in seconds, she looked as though she had no wounds whatsoever. He took the rest of his momentum to land a few paces away from her, just in time to watch her raise a gun from her hip at him at this point-blank range.
The shot did not touch him. Without any seeming movement on Burai's part, a previously invisible and intangible defense sprung before him, a transparent, holographic-like circular barrier with strange glyphs circling around it.
The strange defense circled in front of Burai before it vanished again, out of sight and out of mind. "Hmph. Good to know that still functions here." It was his signature and most powerful defensive mechanism; without it at his disposal, it would've been very difficult to redefine his defensive paradigm. Still, there was much to figure out here, and he now knew he could exert a little more force without worry of just outright deleting her.
He used his wave boosters to jet to one side of her, turning about in an instant and closing the distance once again, this time holding his flaming fist out. As he came to a sudden halt, he planted his foot down and aimed an upper cut against her back - his fist first passing directly through her body, before it became solid again just in time to make contact with her face on the other side.
The force of the impact was enough to send anyone sprawling, and Burai didn't seem content on letting up on her from there. Doubling back, he prepped a little energy into his fist before he came darting forward again, once again releasing a barrage of attacks that couldn't quite fit their mark, and, once again, finishing the barrage of attacks with a bicycle kick -
- part way through his kick, however, he blasted energy from his wave booster to send him spinning back in the opposite direction, his boot now crashing towards her face from above rather than below, threatening to smash Feint into the ground if she didn't get out of the way.

Feint made note of the invisible barrier, not really having a solution for that one in her arsenal for now, but something to consider for later in the event she ever came across something like it ever again. Fortunately, if Burai really wasn't from her world, she didn't have to worry about that.
There was an electrical surge through her body as his uppercut was about to connect, travelling suddenly from all parts to converge just at the base of her chin, where the punch was destined to land. This small "ball" of energy was popped by the uppercut, but Burai would feel the same resistance as before against the attack, only this time it was more noticeable. Her hair fluttered at the wind of the collision, but she otherwise maintained her posture.
The rapid assault continued just as before, Feint remaining calm throughout it despite her suit being non-responsive to the blows, then raised her arm this time to dampen the impact of the first bicycle kick with her wrists.
As Burai flipped over to kick her from the opposite angle, he'd see that electrical charge from earlier originating from the wrist he had just kicked, then scattering about once more before reconverging to create the smallest visible buffer between the front of her head and the back of his foot as the strike connected. It was almost as if she had her own invisible shell around her body, but required immense trauma to actuate.
Her feet dug into the ground as the attack had intended, cracking the white platform like glass but not fully breaking it, though she simply stepped up and out of the holes that her boots had formed from the impact -- still largely unphased by the assault.
" ... "
The attacks were certainly more threatening now, but she was certain he could swing harder the longer they went on. His paling was to be put to the test next; if she was able to break it, then anybody could, really. And if they couldn't: she'd feel all the better for that.
" Wouldn't want that shield to get stolen by certain Navis. Some can replicate what they see -- if countermeasures of that don't exist in your world, you'd best find some ways of implementing them now. The boots and your style too, they can copy it all. "
While she wasn't the informative type, there were certain others that she'd rather not be able to swipe those traits off of him should they ever cross paths.

By distributing the energy, her body crackled with electrical power, and, at the moment of impact, any harm to her is reduced.
It also seemed that her body was exuding a certain form of energy, rapidly and carefully, creating a sort of resonating field that his attacks passed through, but almost immediately after that unique energy dispersed and seemed to flood back into her, as if the kinetic energy behind his blasts was only serving as a resource.
An interesting defense she had, backed by an interesting piece of information. There were beings in this world capable of copying the abilities that others could use just by looking at it? Burai thought on these words as he jumped a good distance away from her. He took up stance again, the dark energy radiating from his gauntlet swirling around his body as he prepared his own assault.
"The humans from my world believed that they had the same ability - through guile and ingenuity, they would attempt to replicate my abilities. Any attempt is but a falsehood of the works of the Murian people. Our advances in technology were far beyond what the world is capable of understanding, and what is designed into my form was bestowed by divine right. Mimic it though they may be able to, they will never taste its true power.
"Anyone who attempts to use Murian technology, I will simply delete - be it to copy or make their own, it is not theirs."
Burai pulled back his burning fist behind him, leaving a marginal distance between him and his opponent that was much unlike his previous assaults.

" That works too. "
It kept them out of her hair if he just killed them immediately afterward, so no issues there.
Burai's sudden disengagement was an issue, though. The displeasure one Feint's face wasn't hard to notice as the electricity on her form began to swell up again, only to fizzle and fade out to no effect.
" Tch. "
There went her trump card.
Burai still remained far away though -- perhaps her talking too much made him stop to take a moment to respond outside of the heat of things, but he was certainly taking a long time to get back to it, much to her attack's dismay. She spoke across the distance he created, not bothering to approach him as he was clearly much quicker than her uncharged state.
" So you done, then? "

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/340189121500938240/728347473344725113/113~png He felt a strange force, suddenly, emanating from Feint - while his unique defense rose to stop the wave of energy she created, it seemed to have no effect on whatever was just released that drained the energy he was gathering out of his body. He had never experienced anything like it before, but, it was effective nonetheless.
Burai exited his combat stance, looking down at his hand as he began collecting energy again, but decided it was best to leave this here, for now. The most important of his abilities seemed to work, and enough similarities existed between the two worlds that his technology was still somewhat applicable, if not a little strange to get used to.
"I had planned to test out more against you, but, in hindsight, perhaps it is better this way," he called back, closing the distance between them with a slow walk. What he was about to do - perhaps he had gotten too into the fight, to believe that this woman assigned to accompany him would be able to handle him at his full force.
He narrowed his gaze at her as he closed their gap further, noticing the displeasure on her face. Did she intend for this energy to be released, that drained the power out of his assault, or did she hope for him to continue? It didn't matter now, he had what he needed. "If you are prepared, I am fine to exit this world and return to the human world. If you say we are in Netopia, that is the most convenient place for us - four of my five artifacts should be present, here."

#s://i~imgur~com/U4Xclbh~png Seems he was only testing out his essential functions. It made sense not to go full force, since verifying his compatability was all that really mattered. Her last gesture was more of a taunt, but she was starting to get the hint by now that those never really worked on certain folk.
" Netopia it is, then. "
She didn't really get to test hat barrier, but it rose up even against a completely untelegraphed technique. That at least showed that it wasn't dependent on his own reaction, but not entirely in his control either, based on the same assumption.
The furrow in her brows softened as she closed her eyes -- no need to get too worked up over a shortcoming. But she definitely needed a new gun. Her eyes shot back open as her expression returned to neutral, though even for a neutral one, it was still cold.
" It's a big place, and I can't just portal you into that one. We'll need to meet up somewhere. Any popular or historical locales in your timeline? If it's consistent with ours, that'd be an easy enough spot. "
She wasn't entirely sure of how his own technology worked, but if it was anything like hers, the entry point and exit point of the Cyber World were one and the same, so unless they were somehow right next to each other when she Pulsed In originally, they'd have to do some movement of their own to merge paths, as she understood it.

#s://cdn~discordapp~com/attachments/340189121500938240/728347473344725113/113~png She was thinking carefully about what had happened, considering her own shortcomings in the fight. She didn't get in any successful hits against her, but, in the same vein, none of his attacks had any lasting effect on her, either.
He hadn't been trying to take her down, however, and the furrowing of her brow softening told him that she was at least over the endeavor. He had no time for a woman too swallowed up by her pride over just a simple sparring match, and her own cold stare was met back with his - and his seemed to drain the heat out of the air around him.
Her understanding of their technology wasn't quite as sound, but, he honestly did not know how she came to the Cyberworld, either. He had no doubt that the locals he wanted to visit existed in this timeline - save for one, of course, which had no way of existing given the change of technology - but he knew that it would be suspect if he were to simply get lost on the way to their meeting place. "I should be able to exit the same way that you do. All I need is the access point that you used, and we can travel from there to Netopia's Frozen North."

Well this was going to be weird one way or another, considering where her physical body was at. The visualization that she had in her head, of him just appearing there when she woke up, was a bit difficult to piece together, but it wouldn't be the strangest thing she'd seen today, she figured.
" It's in Netopia. The Gigamerican Consulate. I can basically just unplug from anywhere, but I'll take you to the place I Pulsed-In at first, so that you're at least in the right Cyber Space. Follow along I guess, or however your tech works. "
And so she led him out of the network by means of the same portals they had used to get here, Pulsing Out herself once they were in the right area.

As they enter the correct Cyberspace, he first watches her dissipate into the air, and follows soon after, his own body dematerializing as he entered the human world.

Authentication confirmed. Access granted. Welcome back, Ms. Pele.
-- -- --
Being no stranger to gaining access to secure systems, Faith Nymphra was able to forge Cherish's authorization to this network when she discretely transferred data between their PETs during her discussion with Grom. Because that PET was plugged into NIA's Network, she was able to get a bit more than that during the conversation.
What brought her here, however, was a specific report that had been securely stored here (or at least its earlier drafts) containing the details on Cherish's encounters with the Wave Beings that had started showing up a few days prior.
" ...? "
Shine's "report" was also stolen during the transfer earlier, and while it was quite difficult to interpret, it did cause her to raise an eyebrow about what had happened at the Luminescent Citadel. It mentioned a component that had been salvaged from a Hassmallim, which Cherish had been storing in her PET this entire time.
The same core appeared in Faith's hand now -- she'd stolen that too.
Taking what she'd learned about the Hassmallim in Shine's report, what Warrior had told her about the one he'd faced recently in Netopia, and her modestly above-average programming skills, she'd see if she could manipulate it into something more useful than it was in its current state, or at least get a better understanding of what it was...

The report held up true in most regards to its origin. It didn't absorb other data, but largely just repelled and disassembled it by proximity. It had been inactive while in Cherish's PET, though once Faith had stolen and moved it, began to activate again. Was it because there was nothing to disassemble while it was inside of the PET? Or was it because there wasn't enough, so it stayed inactive? One fortunate thing to note at least was that carrying it around in the Real World unlike the Wave Beings that Cherish encountered seemed impossible, as it didn't move there at all. Perhaps if she was in one of the locations from before? Her tests would take some time, but the answers were able to be gathered over time.
It was clear that it was alien in nature. It didn't match with any data that was registered here, though the closest match would simply be another alien digital being in that case. It was contained as the core of something else, meaning what it was made of either also wasn't the same kind of data or was also an alien matter. This core was largely responsible for the other components not working in unison with something else, so while they all maintained the anti-data properties, removing this meant other parts of it could be secured, which would explain the other accounts that had all been left out of this report given Shine's nature when it came to giving those.
Further insight would show that there was at least one strain of code that hadn't been eliminated from it. She would be somewhat familiar with this brand of code, as it was more akin to a string of restraints. Limitations that shut down a vast majority of different logic circuits. It would impair its ability to perform operations at peak performance, but the reason for that could have been that controlling them was sub-optimal and so this was installed so that they could be sent out like hounds to do their job. Another thing that was unrelated but noticed with the exposure was that it was letting off some kind of low-frequency sound. That was the closest that it could be called, but it was eventually something noticed. It was constant, as if it was sending a signal to something.
Understanding all of these things were nice, but more importantly was working it into something more useful. With the fundamental information that data was largely eradicated by it, the tests would result in the next showing that it had increased strength against the same kind of data and would lose it against other kinds of data unless it met some conditions. Those conditions appeared to not be completely related to just the core of the creatures, as it looked like part of the information was missing in regard to this. But it did stand to reason that she would be able to trick it by being able to alter the data she was using against it on a deeper level than average. If she got crafty with her current weapon of choice for example, she could utilize its very nature to slip around it and largely leave herself unhindered by these effects. If they ever did manage to fully adjust to the plethora of things the weapon had by now, it would still ultimately be focused on something that wasn't Faith herself, meaning she could still utilize a different method of attack against it.
