This thing was fast…
A glistening, golden Mettaur virus was everything everyone imagined it to be: sparkling, rare, and very fast on its feet with the speed of a coward. The little virus seemed to be very agile as it leapt almost a block, but in two hops it was reeling from the middle of the traffic of DenTech City to the other side of the street. The only thing less fortunate than the pedestrians that fallen and hit the ground upon trying to dive on it was-
*BONK!!!*
“Pardon Me!”
The female NetNavi landed on the back of the NetNavi that failed its latest dive bomb to snag the virus. She would have to thank him later for trying and apologize immediately for the punishing failure, but it was imperative that the female NetNavi was to catch that virus!
It was not often that the Goddess had gotten a small token of appreciation from the gooey, slime girl. Rosetta had explained well to “Take it as good well” but also to “be careful.” There was no telling was Nu was thinking these days when it came to their estranged friendships! She insisted that Rosetta was HER pet, Xenneth was HER slave, and Megami was HER test subject. There was no “giving” in that relationship whatsoever!
“I don’t know about this, Megami-chan,” Xenneth warranted as the female NetNavvi bounced from one place to the next. Her hops were like flight compared to that of the Mettaur she pursued. “I don’t think this virus is worth it! I-I mean…it did come from…Nu…after all…”
“B-but…it is your gift, Xen-kun!” Megami exclaimed, “You should not let it go to waste! No worries, I will catch it for you!”
She was not even listening.
Xenneth knew that the only reason she even wanted to catch the thing was because of it supposedly belonging to him. The female NetNavi made one last bounce as she hopped into the plaza area. The center displaying the clock one stroke away from being midnight. The sky of the net area was sparkling with pristine lights that could be called “stars” in the infinite black space above. However, the only thing that was much louder than the beautiful sight of the night sky was the infernal ticking sound.
*TICK-TOCK….*
“I see it, Xen-kun!”
…TICK-TOCK…
Something was off with that noise.
…TICK-TOCK…
“Why is that so loud? My P.E.T. volume is fine so…”
Xenneth could not even fathom what was wrong. It was like one of those spooky ghost stories! The ones that they post on the Bulletin Boards about the Net Areas becoming unusual by the day. One in particular was about how the water works simulated water flowed backwards…or how the UnderNet became as bright as day in certain square feet of the area…or how the clock was aloud until finally…
“Wait!” Xenneth thought out loud in terror, “T-those creepy stories can’t be true! It’s not like there is such things on the net as Gho-”
*BOOOONG…….BOOOOOOOONG…….BOOOOOOOOOONG!!!*
The sound ended abruptly and the area was still. The Golden Mettaur virus’s eyes widened as it looked to the rounded clock that was mounted on the pole. Even if it was as low as a few feet from a hand reach, the sound seemed as if it was as high as the heavens and it was a clock tower with the bell of Big Ben tolling in the sky. The female NetNavi seemed almost oblivious of the sound since she was determined on not letting the violet haired boy’s gift escape.
“So…there really is a Bug here affecting the sounds?” he asked somewhat relieved, “Well, if that’s all, that’s fine, but-”
*BOOOOOOOOOOOOONG!!!*
The ground beneath Megami’s feet rocked and rumbled from the last ringing sound of the clock. Megami had struggled to gain balanced and even more so in order to convey the sight that was rising from the terrain. A dark silhouette had begun to rise from the ground level and started to reach for the sky as if it had no limit. It had dwarfed the clock that stood on the pole that displayed the zero hour. The trees had become almost grass to its massive feet, and then there was the protruding blade that traced the terrain right before Megami and the golden virus that took refuge in her shadow all of the sudden.
“Xen-kun…” Megami swallowed, “…I think this would be the ‘ghost’ of the Clock Plaza?”
Ghost? It was worse than that!
It was always conveyed on the BBS that after those strange phenomenon, a shadow would appear and attack anyone who seemed to be within the area. However, after looking at the image that picked itself up from the terrain, it was obviously not a ghost, but rather a Bug that had begun to become sentient. It was rumored that other NetNavis had dispatched of the mysterious ghosts in groups or the Net Officials would show up, but here, Megami stood…alone.
Or…at least, that’s how Xenneth seen it. Megami on the other hand, did not.
“Xen-kun! It is coming!”
The moment Megami said this, the virus had let out its palm, allowing for two blasts of thunderous spheres to lash out and race across the terrain towards her. The female NetNavi had leapt backward as she tried to gain some distance, but the blasts seemed to move according to her very movements.
“They follow upon evasion?”
The female NetNavi whipped around as she dashed the opposite direction. The Mettaur virus scampered quickly while kicking dust out the way. It made haste attempting to leave the area while Megami was pursued by the attack. By the time she reached the wall of a nearby building, she knew that she had given enough time at this point-
“Barrier!”
Xenneth’s cry was almost like a command. In the wake of his call after pushing in the chip and downloading the data, Megami was surrounded by a force field that repelled the thunderous spheres right through the buildings. Megami had taken advantage of this! Running forth, she had closed in on the massive monstrosity. Her right hand lifting as her hand brimmed with the powerful aura that surged with her will power. Even as she closed in, there was, of course, an attack that halted her advance as a single swipe of the massive blade the Bug had held sent out a terrible wave of energy.
“Aura!”
Megami spun her body around as the brimming energy raced along her body and met the slash that diced the air. Trees were cut into stumps, the waters from the fountains escaped in a wisp, and not to mention the Mettaur Virus was knocked around as it tucked itself under its helmet. Megami continued dashing as she leapt upward through the air and thrust her palms forth. Rings of energy raced around her body as she cried out like a banshee.
“Divinity Burst!”
Bravery…Honor…Determination…
Words that raced around Megami in Latin had shown through the eyes of the massive Bug Riser. The foe was struck by the powerful wave as it was struck and simply flinched, but it took no time at all to recover. Megami, watching the foe as she fallen to the terrain like a slow hover, had known this would be a tough battle from its reaction.
CRASH!!!
“From behind us?!!”
The female NetNavi had spun around as she fallen watching as the buildings behind her collapsed. From their dusty and broken concrete bodies where the two spheres of electrical energy that raced from the ashes. They closed in on Megami from her back while the front had portrayed the soft glow of two more electrical spheres that rolled towards her direction.
“MEEEEEEP!!!”
There was a squeak from below Megami and the familiar sparkling form of the golden Mettaur virus. It seemed that amongst all the chaos, it still had not escaped and was around Megami for safety. At this point, they both would perish in a powerful thunder crash!
“She’s surrounded! I have to do-” Xenneth reached to his P.E.T. in a hurry and pressed a number of chips into it in haste, “Something!”
The attacks closed in on Megami, there was a glow from her NetNavi Icon and a powerful burst of light from it afterwards. By the time it had subsided, there was Megami in the center of the four barreling attacks with her limbs covered in leather, her head adorned by a crowning golden head piece, and her tenacious expression coveted by white face paint. The attacks were held in place by her fingers that reached out and pushed against them while covered by a powerful thin layer of a barrier. Her eyes narrowing before finally they widened with a roar of her voice and a push of her palms to send the four spheres of energy flying in every direction!
“With Double Soul and these chips, she should be able to fight back now!”
Megami vanished leaving the Mettaur standing alone in four paths of tilled terrain that had not intersection. The virus was wide-eyed watching the sight of the leather clad female suddenly appear at the torso of the Bug Riser, swinging a fist as a massive swell of energy came from her body, and then vanish once more.
“Dimensional Steal will make her move before he knew what hit him!”
Back…right flank…left foot…torso…head…
All the points were struck rapidly as Megami would vanish one moment, and then next, delivered a powerful fistful of fire to land an impact with a punch. Before Bug Riser could even react and strike with its sword, she vanished once again as she moved about rapidly! Each hit following another until it looked as if he was engulfed in an inferno of fire created by these one single points of explosive impact. All ending with Megami appearing once more at its torso and delivering its last few rapid fiery blows while a Phoenix-like shape emerged from its body as an aura and beat its wings with each powerful impact of her fists.
“RAPID RED NOVAAA!!!”
The massive Bug Riser did not topple or even fall, but it was pushed back to the point of halting in place. It had stopped as it sat in place, seemed almost as if defeated as its body was ragged with some still burning flames that were yet to die out. The female NetNavi dropped to the ground, ready to throw one last impact. However, all of the sudden, Bug Riser attacked with both its palms held up, two spheres of electricity left from its massive hands racing towards Megami.
“This attack again? We can bat them back and then fin-”
*CRACK!!!!*
Thunder roared ten times over!
Around Megami, eight more structures crumbled as the spheres of energy rolled over them and closed in on her. Xenneth was in a tight spot! He felt not a single chip left on his side and Megami was gazing at the incoming electrical spheres that raced towards her. They crashed all at once as Megami had felt a powerful shock that raced through her body…but at the same time, there was a healing green aura that seemed to dismiss some of the damage. It seemed to be enough so that she could at least still take a stand with over half of her energy drained.
With three quick and successive sword slashes of his sword, Bug Riser leveled the plaza and Megami was pushed back to the brink of death. However, there was something different…something off.
“It was a desperation attack!” Xenneth cried, “It’s out of strength! Megami, now!”
Megami’s body ached and ran with an electrical surge that almost stunned her completely. She could not move her hand, let alone a single finger just barely! The female NetNavi looked on to Bug Riser who was still, but twitching. She herself was barely able to muster strength for one more attack after the vicious assault from herself and Bug Riser as both offensives left her barely drained. She would have cursed if she had the personality, but she was only left with an overwhelming desperation to move.
…to move!
…….TO MOVE!!!
There was a powerful quake beneath their feet, and a shockwave that raced past Megami. Bug Riser’s foot that twitched, ready to left had suddenly been struck by this one wave and suddenly made it stumble. Megami, who was shocked, turned to see its source with what little strength she was able to and could see the shining body of a small animal she had only seen in images. Its four small, powerful legs, neon mane, and shining gold body had been nothing she had ever seen before.
But, it’s presence was so…familiar.
“Neeeigh!”
“A…pony?” Xenneth asked, but one more look at it from another perspective told him so much more.
Megami could see a familiar friendly aura, but yet also a signature much like her own. The glowing body of the small animal had surged with energy as it had stood tall beating its very petite wings as if it would take off and fly. With one tilt of her head, Megami could overcome her paralysis with her bewilderment.
“Xen-kun! That is the virus!”
“What?!!” he cried in shock, “B-b-but…h-how? Did it have some kind of…change? Evolved? Something?!”
*BOOM!!!*
The moan of the Bug Riser virus had been enough to bring Megami back to reality. It had seemed to try to recover! Megami was unable to strike, but she knew she would have to try. It started with a stump, and then a step, and then a light jog. The aura that was around her body was almost like a fizz at first, but it started to build itself up once more. Soon, Megami was racing forth at full speed with only one flaming fist as she leapt into the air as she flew up high enough to look down upon the massive Bug. Her right arm came racing downward as her body burst around with a numerous amount of rings.
Self-Sacrifice…Faith…Devotion…
The lines of Latin text had ran around Megami’s body rapidly as she went into Full-Synchro! Her right arm finally came crashing down into the face of Bug Riser as itself and Megami were sent toppling over. With them both crashing into the plaza’s fountain left a massive splash that let out a fizzing steam that ran off the female NetNavi’s body and the Bug data becoming bits.
The clock stroke once again for the first time as Megami fallen by the toppled pole. The side of her face being licked by the small virus as amongst the aftermath of the chaos, had trotted over to the female NetNavi as if it was a way of thanking her.
“This…is why I don’t like farm animals…”
The violet haired boy commented bitterly.
