Outside the ENCS, a news reporting crew sets up their equipment for a filler story on their network. The new reporter's expression seems rather unhappy as he looks at his reflection in the black mirror of his van, fixing his tie before the cameras were rolling.
He'd dreamed of being an on-scene reporter for large national events, being the one person the world looked to for their fill on what was going on. But here he was again, with a "regular story" while his more veteran friends held bigger positions like anchor back at the station.
His camera man pointed to him and then held up three fingers before he slowly went down to two, then one, then pointed at the reporter once more. As the red light of the camera went live, the man's expression instantly shifted from unimpressed to the usual glee he pretended to have as he made his report. The audience expected nothing else.
In his ear phone, he heard the anchor man switch topics to his story, signifying his face was on screen and broadcasting to millions of people world wide about a cover they were probably hoping would end already so that they could get on to the next big story.
"Thanks Tim. It's a beautiful day outside the Electopia National Combined School, and as you can see behind me, visitors are pouring in from all over to celebrate it's one-hundredth anniversary. What started as one man's dream has turned into what you see tod--"
The new reporter was cut off by the disturbance of screaming he heard in the back ground. He turned around to see what the commotion was.
Contrary to his report, people were pouring out of the building as he spoke, running in a panic as if making a desperate attempt to escape for their lives.
If he had any wits about himself, he'd have done the same. But this was his chance! Finally, his time had come to be a front line reporter and lead the viewers of the world through the chaos that would unravel before his very eyes!
He gestured the camera man to follow him as he approached the scene. This was the chance of a lifetime, and not even the threat of the danger involved would keep him from it!
"People are-- ... there seems to be something going on here, people are running..."
He narrated everything as it happened on the camera, careful to keep his voice calm and clear so that people could hear everything that was going on as he approached the building.
"... People are running as a result of some sort of commotion. Listening closely, I can hear staff telling people to evacuate... I think I heard glass breaking..."
As people continued running past the reporter and his crew, the camera caught every second of his valiant effort to push through them, running against the flow of people fleeing for their lives, in desperate attempt to get to the bottom of whatever was happening. Standing in front of a monitor, he motioned the camera man to come closer again and raised his voice above the volume of the panic that was going on around him to continue narrating what was going on.
"There appears to be some sort of... large... Net Navi terrorizing the Cyber Space of this school's network."
The monitor showed a clear picture of what was going on in the Cyber World. This was certainly the cause of the panic.
"This navi seems to be some sort of multi-bug organism as it looks quite familiar to the Gospel beast from centuries ago. It seems to be causing quite a disturbance with all of the electronics of the building. Dozens of official net navis are scattered about the floor -- it looked like it took no effort for the large net navi to take them out."
Lights in the building were flickering and even PETs seemed to be malfunction just by the presence of this creature. It was a miracle that the camera continued to roll, but until it stopped, the brave reporter would not let his crew leave this event undocumented.
"It appears as if-- .... It appears as if..."
The reporter pulled the camera closer and point at a spot on the screen as he described what he saw. His nerves were beginning to get to him to the point that he almost stumbled over his words, but after giving himself a second to pause, he resumed his narration of the scene.
"It appears as if the only thing left standing between this large Net Navi and its destination is a young woman. She doesn't seem well equipped to fight this monster, but she may be this school's last hope until more officials arrive."
???: "..."
In the Cyber World, the young woman gave no reaction to the news reporter's words. She heard him clearly since the monitor's microphone wasn't far from where he was speaking, but his opinion of the situation wasn't her concern at the moment.
???: "..."
Standing before her was the monstrosity the reporter had described: a massive black creature, easily 24 ft in height, taking on the appearance of what could best be described as a large Net Navi plagued with bugs. The texture of its body was that of Gospel and its red ominous eye spoke of its ill-intent. The creature's helmet had two horns atop it and on its right arm it wielded a massive sword whose height and width was double that of the woman's.
The woman was unphased by its frightening appearance, though. She was here with a purpose, and this monstrosity, called the Bug Riser, would not sway her from her cause.
???: "My sister rests in this place. I cannot allow you to intrude."
BugRiser: "..."
???: "You'll receive no further warning from me. Leave this place, or I will bury you where you stand."
The world watched as the woman drew the daggers that were resting on her thighs and pointed one at the creature. Its response was clear as it raised its sword to her: it wasn't leaving without a fight.
Nymphra: "... Very well."

Nymphra raised her elbows to cover her face as the Bug Riser sent a torrent of electricity dancing in her direction with just the mere lifting of its arm. Her own arms did nothing to protect her from the electrocution the followed suit -- in her paralysis, she could hear the news reporter from the real world making his report of the scene, already counting her out of this fight.
The electricity wasn't as bad, but before Nymphra fully recovered from the blinding light of the shock, her body had been knocked aside by the blunt side of the Bug Riser's goliath-sword. It could have easily cleaved her in half -- she was fortunate to have only received its warning to stay out of its path.
As her body went tumbling to the side, it was easy to see why the viewers didn't think she was capable of combating this monster. It had tossed aside official navis that were now scattered over the floor -- the single cleave of its blade had struck them all down just as it had now struck Nymphra down.

Luckily, the expression on her face spoke of the pain she was in -- she didn't have the strength to speak of it herself right now.
As the Bug Riser took a step forward to its original destination, Nymphra hastily pulled herself back to her feet and stumbled back into its path. Blood and bruises already tarnished her appearance with that single blow, but as she took a deep breathe and composed herself, she seemed ultimately unharmed; the pain from just seconds ago already fading away as her body taught itself how to deal with it. The wounds were still there, but she stood uninhibited by them.
"..."
"It is foolish to show restraint against me. I will show none against you."
As if in peak physical condition, Nymphra leaped forward at the Bug Riser, slashing violently at its large eye in attempts to blind it before the landed on the back side of it, stabbing relentlessly and the back of its knees to cripple it so that it could not take another step forward.
There was indeed no restraint in her assault. Her purpose was to destroy and delete -- and she withheld nothing in her attempts.

A growling noise came from the Bug Riser as Nymphra's attempts to subdue it proved unfruitful; a vile laugh, if the creature was even capable of such a thing.
Electricity shocked her again as if it were punishment of her failed attempts. As she stumbled away from the creature's legs, she felt gravity lose its grip over her body and, for a brief time, had lost sense of which direction was up and which was down as she was sent careening back once again by the blunt side of the Bug Rise Sword.
The Bug Riser took another step forward; Nymphra crawled to her feet once more.
Her body formed a small crater in the ground around her -- bones were surely broken in her somewhere, but her mind blotted out the pain as her objective ringed continuously in her head: "Don't let it through".
"I will not let you pass!"
Not one to give up, Nymphra charged at the enemy once more, jumping dauntlessly at it again whilst viciously stabbing away at its chest as she came near. She leaped from its body, ascending high above it in the air, and threw each of her daggers back down at its chest as another attempt to get some form of visible damage to show on the creature. The blades bounced back toward her after they had met their mark -- also unfruitful in making the monster bleed.

The electricity literally stopped her momentum, suspending her in the air as it violently shocked her, this time causing electrical burns to appear on her skin unlike times before.
While she was still suspended during the electrocution, the Bug Riser reared its sword back like a hammer and smashed it into the airborne Nymphra, sending her rocketing down toward the ground like a meteor and colliding with such impact that it cracked the screen of the monitor that the news reporter was watching from.
"..."
Confident its adversary had been put to rest, the Bug Riser stepped forward again.
*Crumble* *Crumble*
"...?"
The sound of the movement of soil caught the Bug Riser's attention before it took a second step.
Sure enough, the silver-haired woman clad in red wasn't finished quite yet.
Having to literally climb out of the crater that her body had created this time, she met eyes with the Bug Riser once more with head strong determination to keep it from getting passed her. It turned its head with intent of going on its way, but she wouldn't allow it to ignore her that easily.
It took her a moment to gather the strength in her legs again, but when she had come to, she jumped again at the creature, this time at the back of its head.
Stabbing the back of what she could only assume was its helmet, Nymphra tried desperately once more to expose the weakness she had not yet discovered of this foe.

The Bug Riser was clearly getting tired of Nymphra's futile attempts to harm it. Electricity coursed its palm as it reached behind its head to pluck her off, punished her once again by sending intense voltage through her body as it grabbed her.
Her agonizing scream wouldn't faze it as it once against bashed her with the blunt of its blade: its final restraint and final warning for the girl to stand down.
The weight of the blade sent her face down to the floor yet again, but at least this time she didn't get sent flying like a comet. No longer able to stand on her feet but still able to fight, Nymphra climbed to her knees now and leaned on the Big Riser's foot as support as she continued stabbing at its ankle.
Her relentlessness would be the death of her, no doubt, but at least when she was gone she wouldn't be remembered as a coward.

It seems like hours of this uphill battle, but in reality it had only been a few minutes since this whole crisis had started. She'd have better luck cutting a mountain in half with a butter knife than ever damaging the Bug Riser, but here she was, stabbing away at its feet to no avail.
The Bug Riser had done quite a number on her, on the other hand, and it had now lost its patience for the woman. She had her chance to flee, but chose not to; knowing she had chosen her fate, it finally decided it was time to assist the girl in bringing her there.
Her harmless stabs were punished prejudicely with its thundering palm -- her skin was more ash than flesh at this point, but that didn't stop her before and the Bug Riser knew it wouldn't stop her now.
Up until this point it hadn't been swinging at her with the edge of its sword, but only the blunt of it. She neglected its warnings and would now pay the consequence.
It swung at her without mercy and with clear intent to cleave her in half for the annoyance she had been.

The sheen of the blade caught Nymphra's eye as it drew near, but there was nothing she could do to stop it. Throwing her arms up to protect herself was all but pointless as the blade cleaved in -- it prevented her from being chopped in half, but the Bug Rise Sword cut to the bone and nearly cut past.
Her left arm was nearly amputated, she was lucky for it to be barely intact. The right was damaged as well, but not as badly, she could still use that one.
It was difficult to watch as the woman on her knees curled down, embracing her barely attached limb and screaming in pain at what had happened, but what else was to be expected at this point. She had put up a valiant fight until now, but this enemy was simply too powerful for her.
The viewers at home surely turned their head as the girl once again stood to fight. Even the Bug Riser turned its head away, though his notion was of pity unlike the others that simply couldn't watch this suicidal attempt by the woman.
She just wasn't one to learn her lesson.
She wasn't able to limp quick enough to catch up with the Bug Riser as it walked away from her, but that didn't stop her from continuing the fight. Throwing her daggers at it again, she persisted until it came marching back at her for the final time.
The Bug Riser looked down in contempt at the now defense-less woman that had just thrown her weapons away. Her bravery would be her undoing.

Its sword had been plunged through her gut; not perpendicular to her body, but long-ways so that the width of the blade didn't chop her in half, but it instead cut through the surface area from the center of her bosom to just below her navel.
She didn't hang limp, though, as one might have expected. She closed her mouth and grit her teeth as she stiffly tried to dislodge the massive weapon but it was to no avail. So instead, she reached slowly down to grab something from a pocket in her jacket.
She pulled out a handful of... battle chips? She threw them at the creature's feet as if still trying to find some means to fight it. The woman surely was relentless. But her efforts were in vain.
The Bug Riser pressed its sword deeper into her body, pinning her to the ground now as judgement for her foolish act of valor. She had chose to walk the hero's path and would now suffer the hero's death.

The reporter spoke the truth as the daggers slipped from Nymphra's hands and her body finally began to go limp.
The Bug Rider stopped its march to kneel over her, staring at her eye to eye to watch her last breathe leave her lungs. The sword plunged through her body being electrified once more as if to ensure her death; zapping her one last time to see if she'd yelp in pain like a possum playing dead.
She had no strength left to yelp, though, but the weak moan signified the little bit of life she still had inside. Her hand moved slowly once more, reaching again for something in her jacket's pocket... another battle chip.
The Bug Riser looked intently as she weakly held it up, watching it slowly turn into a cannon. At this point, the recoil of the blast would surely be enough for to kill her before it did any harm to the monster, but it was amused by the fact she was willing to go so far as to even try, so it allowed her to continue.
But it made one miscalculation -- one vital flaw that would expose its weakness in these last moments.
*Beep* *Beep* *Beep*!

Suddenly, the battle chips Nymphra had haphazardly thrown at the monster before transformed into Time Bombs and quickly counted down from three to two to one before exploding at the Bug Riser's legs. Normally this wouldn't be too detrimental, but now that the creature was kneeling down (as it had been, to watch Nymphra die), the explosions tore into its body much more violently than they'd otherwise be able to.

Combined with this was another explosion from the cannon on Nymphra's arm, aimed directly at the center of the Bug Riser's chest!
"She... She's still fighting! Zoom in with the camera! How is she still alive?!"
The reporter's faith in the girl had probably been restored at the sight of all this. The Bug Riser's roars of pain told the story of how this woman caused a seemingly invincible monster to finally bleed -- but the reality of the scene was still imminent. She may have, at last, managed to hurt the creature, yet it was all but too late for her to continue the fight in this state.

The Big Riser's growl shook the area like an earth quake as its fury poured from its body. But that wasn't the only thing pouring from it, either.
The myriad of bugs that the massive organism seemed to be composed of had detached from it and were now floating around its body like a dense cloud of smoke. The creatures core was exposed behind the horned helmet that it wore -- what once looked like a massive red eye was now a vulnerable, pulsing red orb that floated above a storm of scattered bug-data.
Black Thunder was now striking constantly in the area, unrestrained by the massive power that was containing it before. The Bug Riser still had control over its sword and swung the pinned Nymphra around like a ragdoll in the chaos of its critical state.
"AAAAAAGH!"
Her agonizing cries were almost as painful to hear as they were for her to let out, but they only fueled the Bug Riser's rage even more because those screams meant his victim was still alive.
It was only one good cannon shot away from defeat, but Nymphra had difficulty taking aim as she was being dragged around still by the sword.
She wouldn't last much longer; it was a miracle she even lasted up until now. Her vision was starting to fade and her eyes began lying to her: it now appeared as if there were three Bug Risers staring down at her because of how disoriented her vision was.
But she could aim without looking.
With the Cannon still on her arm, she rested it on the blade that had been cleaved into her for quite some time now. If she shot directly up the creature's arm, she was certain to hit its head.
*BOOM!*
The cannon was fired, and suddenly the chaos stopped.

For a moment, there was silence.
The storm of bugs turned suddenly idle as they realized their source had been taken away.
The dark lightning ceased entirely along with the quaking of the ground.
And the red core of the Bug Riser paused momentarily as if it hadn't quite registered the hole that had just been blown through it.
The Bug Riser fell to the ground; its entire body collapsing in on itself like a building losing its foundation. The sword finally disintegrated, letting Nymphra free, and joined the rest of the body that gathered on the ground in a cluster of bugs.
Its core had been severely damaged, but not fully destroyed. The multi-bug organism would reconstruct itself eventually, but for now its rampage had been brought to a halt.
As Nymphra laid there, barely alive, the cluster of bugs hastily crept away from the area, leaving the network back in its usual operating conditions.
A crisis was averted today. But there would surely be another one tomorrow.
With her objective complete, Nymphra pulsed-out, back into the real world where her mind could recover from the trauma it had just been through.
This hero wasn't dying today.
