[Feint coming from Kotobuki Network]
"..."
Sitting in the back of a black limousine traveling awfully quickly from Netopia (on quite a short notice), Feint looked across the vehicle with an unamused expression to the girl staring back at her.
"..."
Nymphra found herself as the victim of this crude stare many times before. Though it still felt kind of awkward to be disliked by somebody so strongly for such little reason. But family was always willing to go out of their way for each other, and she'd do no different for her would-be sister-in-law.
"Ms. Pele--"
A voice came from the front of the vehicle addressing Feint.
"--we'll arrive at our destination momentarily."
She almost in curled her lip at being referred to by that name. The guy didn't even pronounce it right; it was pronounced "Pay Lay", not "Peel". Idiot.
Feint stood up from her seat, crouching down of course since the ceiling of the vehicle was obnoxiously low, and began putting on what appeared to be a black jumpsuit over the top of her civilian attire.
"... You wear regular clothes underneath that?"
"As much as I'd love to get naked in front of you to change out, it's not happening, Faith."
"Well I apologize, Cherish."
Snappy as ever.
These two clearly had a history, and not a very peaceful one.
Faith Nymphra and Cherish Pele, also known as "Feint" in the Cyber World to keep her real identity safe. Interestingly enough, she did nothing to disguise her appearance when traversing either of the two worlds. It's not like anybody paid close enough attention to notice two people existing on two planes of reality anyway.
Faith exhaled after snapping back at Cherish. She really tried to like this girl, but her respect was so hard to earn. She'd dare call it impossible.
"How does the suit stay with you when you pulse in and out? I thought Pulse Transmission only sent your consciousness into the Cyber World; not your entire body."
"Pulse Transmission only sends in my mind because if it sent my whole body, it'd need to break me down into little atoms and then reassemble me on the other side. And that'd kill me."
"... and the suit?"
"You can't kill a suit by turning it into atoms."
'Right', Faith thought. So she Pulsed herself in just like any regular human would, but she didn't wear the suit while doing so Apparently the suit itself was digitized entirely separately so she could retrieve it in the Cyber World. Then when she'd pulse out, the suit would "undigitize" back into the Real World through whatever separate device got it there in the first place.
"And it maintains all of its regular properties in both worlds?"
"It's a pretty powerful thing. Even if it is a little tight in certain spots."
Cherish zipped up the suit and put on a small black jacket as she finished changing into her ensemble. The jacket kind of helped cover the two distinct features of her body that the suit on its own did nothing to hide.
"But still... wearing regular clothes underneath? Won't you sweat in them?"
"..."
She just wanted to know everything little thing, didn't she?
"The inner layer of clothes adds extra protection and insulation against things like heat and cold. And yes, it helps absorb perspiration so that the suit doesn't smell like a wet glove every time I take it off."
The limo came to a halt at the front of the Official Experiment Lab complex's main entrance. It was pretty incredible how fast that driver had gotten her here, she had to admit.
"Ms. Pele, we've arrived."
"..."
Too bad he sucked at pronouncing people's names still.
"Be careful, sis."
"I'm not your sister."
No really, she wasn't.
Feint opened the door to step out. The limousine drove off as she shut the door behind her, but she suddenly froze in what appeared to be shock as she noticed the man standing right in front of her.
"..."
He looked like he wanted to say something, but he just couldn't think of any words at the moment. It'd been so long since he'd seen his daughter... quite frankly, all he wanted to do was embrace her, but she suddenly broke from her trance and stopped his advance by placing a single palm on his chest, denying him any affection. Yet again.
"..."
For a moment her heart skipped a beat. She'd been avoiding this man for many years, and she certainly didn't expect to run into him here. Faith must have arranged this... how she despised that girl. "The daughter Seth always wanted" had certainly replaced her, she thought. But she gave up trying to win this man's appreciation quite some time ago.
In her deranged mind, he didn't genuinely love her; he just pretended to. So she felt no need to genuinely love him back.
"... I'm working."
That's all she'd say before taking her hand back and walking away, continuing about her business as if their interaction hadn't even happened.
There was no "I'm glad to see you".
No "I've missed you".
No "I love you, Dad".
"..."
It seemed so cliche, to say his little girl had grown up too quickly, yet it was so true. And somewhere along the way, he'd failed to make some connection with her.
But she was taken away from him at a very young age.
He felt guilty for not being a better father, and rather disappointed that he was living every father's nightmare.
She was past the age of making her own decisions, but the day would come when she'd come back to him, and when it did, he'd be ready to accept her with arms opened wide.
Sadly... today was not that day.
