"So that's what happened. We were largely quiet in that time too, mostly because we had no choice."
*It was nice to hear that things were largely quiet when it happened on their side. He had figured that things would have gotten out of hand, but then all the plans on the human side must have came to a standstill when all the cogs suddenly went missing. And in light of what would possibly be future events happening in a different order, he should probably try to get his pieces in order. It was a strange thing to consider given last time, but...*
"In light of recent events, do you happen to have any eyes in this world, Victor?"

Rather an interesting question to be asked; being an ONB official, it would seem an obvious fact that Victor would have multiple Navis active at a time to help ensure his effectiveness. However, the truth...
Victor: Less than most officials. My Navis have a habit of going off to pursue personal ambitions.
Resonance, who had been bound to Victor as a sort of "probation", had long since moved on due to underlying distrust of humans. Challenger left to pursue his own desire to explore and fight without feeling chained down, and NapalmMan... well, that did not end well at all.
Victor: I don't have any currently active Navis, though I do keep eyes on the current happenings through other means and inform the appropriate Navis when the need arises.
What more could he do? After being abandoned, it seemed as though trying again would be a symptom of mild insanity.

*Genesis had personally assumed that most of the officials didn't have any Navis. They didn't seem like the sorts that would invest that heavily into the situation, so he had assumed that most of them lacked an operator. That said he could understand the pursuit of personal ambitions, what with his more recent days being spent solely on that. Looking at it from Victor's angle it was a less than desirable outcome for certain to just be left behind like that. He had thought about this for a while. She had made solid points, even if she was just speaking from her own experience. He didn't ignore that despite those facts and just spent time thinking, something he had a lot of time to do for a while now when pursuing personal things fruitlessly.*
"In that case..."
*And inbetween the times of being not bitter and the times of being bitter for those efforts, he thought about other things like this. He didn't have the best experiences from or with humans. One way or another they always caused a problem and never shouldered any of the blame for it. That wasn't to say that they were spotless either, because Navis could cause their own fair share of problems without humans. But both sides had good and bad. So he could never say that he would trust or like all humans, but he was still willing, from the looks of it, to try and bridge the gap with some of them. Like that crybaby from Element City. Really Victor didn't have a lot of reason to agree to this anyway, but that had never stopped him from trying before. It wouldn't stop him this time either.*
"I don't have any way to offer any guarantees to you given what you've said and even more given our positions, but with how things have been lately I think we both could afford to have a bit more ground covered than just simply using other means. We could cover more ground that way as well."

Previous research on Genesis, sparse though the results may have been, had revealed more than enough reason for him to have a deeply rooted distrust of humanity. So why now does he feel that a connection with his world's counterpart is best? Worse cataclysms than this had come to pass, so what about this one can bring down such hard-forged walls...?
Victor: I can agree. The schism that the ONB has created in the past was foolish and does nothing but hinder any real change. And speaking of...
Victor's mind goes from point A to point B fairly quickly as he speaks; there is an important issue to address.
Victor: No offense intended, but there's an elephant in the room to address; you are technically an outlaw by ONB standards due to the infernal license laws. I've done my best to fight them, and have even managed to lessen their enforcement, but they're still on the books for now. If we're going to work together, then I am going to need you to keep our connection a secret for the moment. If they find out that I'm aiding you, it will end up re-sparking license talk and cost me any position that might be able to help on your end.
Victor waits for a moment, letting the awkwardness of having to address that issue settle between the two before taking a deep breath to continue with a short word;
Victor: Agreed?

*Genesis listened to Victor's words, being silent through the whole thing. He could see why it would leave a bit of an awkward air, but instead Genesis had nodded to Victor's words. It was the truth of the matter. He was an outlaw still and Victor wasn't in a position to let that be common knowledge. It worked for both of them in the event he spoke to Finale again too.*
"Agreed. There's nothing wrong with that."
*And if the ONB was offline right now, this was the best time for him and Victor to do this. While they were on the books, most of the officials would be working on figuring out their own situation than keeping an eye on Victor and such. They had bigger things to worry about. Just like he did too. Vinyl and Juno may have been at large, but he still was concerned about what else would show itself in their wake. The hornet's nest they stirred had a lot at stake.*
"I at least believe that when things finally settle down, the ONB will have to change their standards again."
*He wanted to tear down that schism and was making steps toward it despite his distrust in humanity, but they had to take steps forward eventually. Both sides couldn't stay stubborn. And by the time they had pushed through this storm and looked back on it, they would have realized how to take those steps forward. That was what he was betting on. And while there were several calamities that still had to be taken care of and a wandering cataclysm in his own right, he still had two people to hunt down once things settled down just a bit.*

Victor's eyes narrow at Genesis' words, his mind being brought back to a dark place. Being a new connection, the Onyx Overlord needed to be given a bit of information...
Victor: Genesis, be careful about trusting anyone else in the ONB, or any other government post for that matter. Good intentions, even pure intentions, can be destructive when they're controlled from higher up.
Victor's eyes trail up as he thinks about some of his previous... rather disturbing findings.
Victor: Just before the time-skip, it was revealed that MagnetMan was an agent working for Gate. He's since gone missing, likely recalled to cover any tracks that may be left in the sand, but he practically made New Life. There's no telling what sort of information may be false at this point.
Victor then closes his eyes, thinking to the obvious.
Victor: That's not to say that Gate is our main concern at the moment. He's not dumb, and will likely lay low until he knows that's going on with this Juno character, but regardless, you'd be wise to consider any information that I may give you from here on carefully, as there's no telling how much ONB agents have been fed.
And that sparked yet another memory...
Victor: Oh, by the way; I haven't been entirely alone in this. My cousin is also an ONB member; a hacker by the name of Lance Wily. He and I have been trying to crack down on this for several years now, so he should be able to help you out as well if push comes to shove. I believe that you've met his Navi; a less than friendly figure that goes by the name of Scarface.

*It was at Victor's own words that Genesis' eyes showed acknowledgement. He was glad to see Victor knew that things had gone wrong, but then the humans would recall as much instead of the navis who forgot. Iria was the perfect example of destructive intentions based on who held the reins, Gravity Beetle as well but in a different way. But this was also why Gate was on the back-burner, much like someone else. They both were problems to take care of in the future rather than the present. Some would say they should act on it to prevent future disaster, but that wouldn't go well anyway so attempting it was a waste of time. How much information was false was going to be difficult to discern as well, but he was a bit used to that as well.*
"Wily and Scarface, huh?"
*Wily always came with that W, the same he had seen a few times now. That didn't mean that Lance himself was suspect, just that he found it interesting how the name came up on both sides of the spectrum so easily. Scarface though was always a tough one to associate with. As long as a common goal was held then they were fine, their relationship fire-forged about as much as his own with Psyche. Except Scarface was... well, Scarface? Their last meeting was on the edge too, of course.*
"I can get in touch with him if I hit another wall. It's better to leave them to their own devices to cover more ground."
*That and as he was meeting Scarface wasn't entirely high on his to-do list. They had their own way of keeping in contact after all. Sure it meant the odds of Scarface slashing first and asking later were slimmer, but on the other hand if Scarface still resorted to that... he'd have quite the time getting around it. It'd be like their meeting at the Dark Citadel all over again. Good times...*

Vanguard.EXE Dribbles of dark energy suddenly erupted from a crevice in the net, flowing out of the small cracks that dotted the landscape like bugs. The small dribbles of dark energy floated about the area, before they suddenly bunched up and ran towards each other, acting like they were friends from long ago. As the darkness collided, they spread up and solidified into a roughly humanoid shape.
At first, they didn't seem to certain as to what they were doing. The darkness still hadn't defined many features, but, it did break apart near the bottom to make some makeshift legs. This new creature hobbled forward, unsure and unstable, before it collapsed all over again into its original state. They started all over again, trying to form. . .something.
A sudden, primal shake went through all of them, as something seemed to grip them for control. They built themselves up again, this time solidifying properly. A slight sheen glossed over the dark orbs as they took on forms and detail, until a warrior clad in dark armor stood where they once congregated.
Vanguard cracked his neck, flexed his shoulders and stretched his legs, all in one, fluid motion. It had been a while since all of his data was in the same place at the same time, and he could only be grateful that it came together as it did. With his power back in his own grasp, he began thinking about what he knew about the net.
Thankfully, it hadn't gotten boring while he was away. The dark-clad Navi raised his pale vision to the air above, grinning widely as he took in the world once again. It was a dark place, this part of the net. . .and he enjoyed reveling in its glory. With a few more stretches and a long, drawn out sigh, he set his plan into motion.
It was simple. He had to get stronger. . .and that meant siding with the proper team. "Juno! I, Vanguard.EXE, request an audience with you!"

Piercing the darkness above was a ray of light, that broke the skies of the Undernet as suddenly and swiftly that only the quickest of attentions would even notice. The light of the heavens arced down, leaving an opalescent rainbow of light in their wake. The sky shattered like glass, revealing, just for a second, a massive floating island in the sky. The ray of light found its mark in Vanguard, striking through him and bathing him in the heat of a warm summer's day. The sudden light-filled Undernet was dazed, many seeing light for the first time. It would burn them all, if it were a visit of pleasure. Juno wasn't so foolish as to upset the Underking twice. Not today, at least. The only one who'd find the heat turn extreme was Vanguard. The ray of light that focused on him became stronger, like the heat of the sun beating down in a desert. And it only became pinker. The ray of light, now a purplish-pinkish hue of holy laser, decimated Vanguard's entirety, his soul being purged of any impurities, and lifted into the next life. <VANGUARD.EXE DELETED> <ENTRY INTO ELYSIUM GRANTED> <ENTER?>Following Vanguard's oh so untimely demise, the Undernet returned to night. Whatever happened was paradoxically purged from the truth. The shadows brought deceit.

After leaving Netopia Lake, Kidd arrived in the Undernet. What sort of plans did he have here though?
"I need to get stronger....and fast.....only one way....."
He glared at the first navi he saw, pointing Shiela at the navi and firing, in hopes of drawing attention. This....this was the beginning of his path to power.

As Kidd lay on the ground after the fight, only one thought crossed his mind.
"I.....I have to....get stronger..."
Against his better judgement, Kidd rose to his feet, albeit shakily.
"If I could just get stronger....."

<INCOMING TRANSMISSION!>
Much like how operators view their navis through small screens appearing nearby their navis, one such screen appeared in front of Kidd. On it, one Desperado, still typing away at the command center, seemingly not paying attention to the screen before him. Looking up for a second he looked startled, almost surprised that whatever he did worked.
"Heya Boss! I guess I got some stuff up and running at the base. You wanna come back and see? I think I got the teleporter working more than just on the way out too."

"Might as well. Is the training room up yet?"
As Kidd spoke, he tried to wipe the dirt off of him.
"By the way, I think I found a potential new member. Didn't catch his name though."
After speaking, Kidd teleported back to the base.

Vanguard.EXE As Vanguard fell from glory, it occurred to him that the sky had shattered in order to allow him access to the Island. What would cause the sky to shatter again, to let him back to his dark and dangerous network? Nothing of his accord. . .
As he got closer to the darkened remnants of the network below, though, the clouds below him cracked, before completely shattering, revealing the dark network below. He smiled, and fell, without any glory, into the Undernet. He landed and looked up, just in time to watch the light-filtering hole in the sky fix itself.
"Well. . .That wasn't productive," he snarled, turning his face back down into the muck of the world that he knew and despised. He had wasted quite a bit of time in that Island, and could only hope he could make up for it - he didn't need Juno to get stronger.
He couldn't have hoped for defeating or even surpassing Juno, but, he had hoped he could utilize Juno's power to make a name for himself and gain new experience. If nothing else, it would be a way to excel his skills - a chance he lost when Juno ignored him. He'd make Juno rue this day.
First, though, he'd have to get stronger. . .and what better place to do that, than in the darkness that was the Undernet? He walked on, looking for something to hone his skills against.

A figure enveloped by a concealing cloak glances around. Though he had his mouth fixed into a forbidding scowl, the navi was bubbling with excitement. Here Rap was, in the middle of a forbidden location, amongst thieves and crooks!!!Maybe he'd run into a damsel needing saving, or a mystery needing solving!!!
Beneath the cloak, glowing, circuit like lines rapidly switched colors as Rap laughs excitedly, quickly turning it into a growling snicker as two Heels look at him funny.Hurrying on, he accidently bumps into another navi."Sorry!!!" Wait....that's not proper villain behavior....give it another try."Er....I mean...Watch where you're walking or I'll make sure you're no longer capable of talking!!"
