Merrill nodded, glad his words struck home to Rayner. He noted his spell failed and had no effect. However, that was something to be looked into later, as Warrior had pointed out that the female navi from before had woken up and was staring at them. Merrill turned and looked at her eyes unsure of his feelings. He crossed his arms and waited patiently.
Her heart started to race as he stared at her.
"I'm sorry! I never meant for her to get hurt! I swear! I just wanted to stop her from battling! Please don't be so angry at me! I'm sorry!"
Her voice was soft and sweet. Melodic almost. She could easily have been a singer.
Tears lined her face she was entirely unsure of what else to say. She waited patently for a response from either of them.
Merrill furrowed his eyes. He uncrossed his arms, bent down and picked up Life and Death which had been near his feet. He took a step closer to her, never taking his eyes off of her. He stabbed Death into the ground, took another step, and repeated the process with Life. He went slow enough Warrior had time to talk and respond, before he made his own decsion.

"Let's not be rash."
Warrior moved in slowly behind Merrill, ready to dash in front of him and intercept if that needed to happen. They were closer than brothers, but that didn't mean they saw eye to eye all of the time. Fortunately, they were both pretty reasonable people in times like these, so if Merrill's intentions were what they implied to be, there was still a way to talk him out of that.
He knew Merrill didn't plan to kill the girl, otherwise he wouldn't have just saved her. But "getting even" was still not in her health's best interest, and something Warrior felt he needed to prevent from happening.
"We've seen enough to know that she's telling the truth. After all, her actions weren't what caused that man to find us anyway; even if this girl had never interfered, he still would have hunted us down and eventually found us, and clearly we're unable to prevent him from having his way."
The truth was harsh, but that was it.
"If anything, her actions eventually led us to realizing our own weaknesses. Now we have the chance to strengthen them before we meet our enemy again. The same might not have been true if everything did happen the way it happened -- including this girl's involvement."
And he said no more. If Merrill couldn't disagree with the point he'd made, could he disagree with the notion that the girl be left unharmed?

"I know."
He spoke it loud enough for Warrior to hear, while keeping a pace towards the girl. He never stopped looking at her. As he reached her frail form, her tears and crying was about as much as he could handle. He fell to his knees, and hugged her. Tears leaked from his eyes, as he just wrapped his arms around her. He choked out a few sentances.
"I know.. I know you didn't mean to. I'm sorry too."
He held her to him, is own sadness nearly overwhelming. All she wanted to do was protect Healer, something none of them could do. He spoke to Warrior next, as he slowly regained his composure.
"You are right... I realized that he was tracking us anyway. He could have just hunted us one at a time, and sadly, none of us would have stood a chance. He just was too strong."
Finally, he took a deep breath, trying to pull himself together. He let go of the girl, and stood, wiping tears from his eyes. He finished his thought.
"You are right. He showed us we had weaknesses. He mopped the floor with us, but he made the mistake of letting us live. We will make him regret that. We will kill him the next time we see him ourselves."
He looked down and offered his hand to her. He spoke kindly to her for the first time.
"And you are?"
The brown haired kid's words were encouraging. She felt that she wold be protected by him if the angry one attacked. She noted his movements, but was unsure of what was about to happen to her. She really started to panic as he approached. Her heart raced quicker and her tears kept coming, but now she was scared for her own life. Would the one boy save her from the other?
However, she was not prepared for what he did. She was not prepared for him to fall on his knees like he did and hug her. In fact, everything stopped when he did. She didn't know how to feel really. She slowly stopped crying. Finally, it was like she stopped period
She had not had hardly any interaction with anyone in years. Her people skills were very rusty. It had been many years, since nearly that fateful day, that she had been hugged or hugged anyone. She nearly stopped functioning. She just let herself be held, silently as the two boys talked. She stared blankly almost past the boy who was hugging her.
After he stopped, and had stood, she just sat on her knees, dumbfounded. Her voice seemed to have been lost. However, she found it and seemed to come back to attention when a hand was offered to her. She barely registered the question, and she responded very quietly.
"Xylia... My name.... is Xylia Rose..."

Warrior grinned, satisfied with Merrill's change of intention. Or perhaps that's what he intended all along, but Rayner just didn't realize it at first.
He had to admit, even he was fooled for a moment there.
"Right, I've no doubt about that. But in the meantime, we'd better head to New Life before things continue to get worse over there. Xylia, you're free to join us if you'd like, but if you'd prefer not to we understand. I'm not gonna sugarcoat it: it's pretty dangerous where we're going. If you think you can handle it though, feel free to tag along."
Now getting to New Life would be the next challenge, but there was nothing worse than not trying, even if there was no visible chance of success in that quest.
"Merrill, are you ready?"

Merrill nodded, pulling Xylia to her feet.
"I'm Merrill and this is my brother, Warrior.
He turned towards Warrior. With a nod, he grabbed Life and Death.
"Aye. I am. We'll use this as a good training experience. Besides... I have a bit of pent up frustration to take out on some Evil."
He turned and waited to see what Xylia would do. But he made up his mind. He only had one question though:
How would they get there?
She wasn't sure what to do. She could go home and hide again. But these people... They weren't like the others. They had been nice to her. No ne in a very very long time had been nice to Xylia.
"I... I'll tag along..."
She had decided her fate. She had decided to venture out beyond her little world and on to a bigger one. She decided to alter her life. Besides, maybe they could help her with her mission, when the time was right and they had done saving this.. "New Life" place that "Warrior" Spoke of...
She walked over to Warrior, between them.
"Thank you.."
She then waited before them to decide what the next step was.

Warrior nodded his head at Xylia's "thank you", non-verbally saying "you're welcome", then nodded to Merrill as well in agreement of what he'd said.
"I'm not sure how we can get passed the Network Lock, but if we just start heading in that direction, perhaps a route will reveal itself that we didn't expect to find. And it beats sitting around. Let's go."
And off they went, destined to find surprisingly more success than they'd expected.

Mwrrill nodded. He and Xylia both followed in Warriors footsteps, heading to the next chapter in their lives.

The edge of the Southern Flats, a place not far from the famed Com Square. The day is young, the sky is clear, and the sun is shining. The temperature is balmy and warm for the area, but still cold. And this icy field is where a rather interesting meeting begins, as the sound of heavy, metallic footsteps cracks through to the frozen grass beneath the snow and two shadows loom away from the early-day sun.
This is the site of a new beginning.
Are you SURE that this is the way to Com Square?!
Gravely and harsh, the sound of a very obviously male Navi's voice resounds with the echo of loud, clanging metal following shortly behind. Entering the scene is a mammoth Navi dressed in unmistakably heavy armor reminiscent of the famed KnightMan, but somehow even heavier. the Navi's face is covered by an iron cage, with an iron dome-like helmet above, complete with a large, red plume jutting out skyward. From the shadow of the helmet, two red and yellow eyes shine out, looking down to an object in his massive, iron hand; a map.
I don't remember the last time I set foot there, but I don't remember tracking for this long either! So help me we should have been there by now!
The voice of this mammoth Navi resounds with annoyed and confused tones as he slowly turns the map from side to side, doing his best to make heads-or-tails of what he's seeing...

"We should be heading the right way according to the map."
*In contrast with the grave and harsh voice, was a carefree and relaxed one, another male Navi's having responded not nearly as loudly. But he was floating in the air, one leg crossed over the other. He wasn't nearly as large as the Navi beside him, of average height dressed in lighter armor, a blend of a pirate and a ninja from appearances. He had a mask that covered his mouth that looked closer to brown bandages, a brown helmet with brownish red falling by the sides of his head. Red eyes peered ahead at first, but went over to the other Navi while he continued floating forward. It didn't take long for him to hover closer before landing to look at the map too.*
"Let me see that."
*He was still as relaxed about the situation. But looking at the map and his companion's own reaction to it let him get the gist of it pretty quickly. It wasn't going to help the annoyance and confusion of his partner any, though.*
"I think the reason we've been tracking for this long is because we're lost. We went the wrong way instead of the path that we were supposed to take."
*He made sure to say we instead of him, even though his partner was the one who had the map and led them the wrong way. Now if they were lucky they could backtrack and find the right path or they would be out even longer trying to make heads or tails of where they had to go to reach Com Square.*

Lost? No, that simply wasn't an option right now. After all, how many times had they been to Com Square? Enough to not get lost!
Bah! We're not lost, The map is wrong!
The colossal Navi leans in over his partner's shoulder and brings his metal hand around, pointing to the map as he tries to re-trace their steps.
Alright; it brought us through the mountains without a problem, so it can't be all bad. How old is this map anyway? I told you not to bring something so outdated, Bola!
....the shame is, it was the giant Navi who brought the map. His partner was the one who insisted that they buy a new map before setting out. But that doesn't matter to him now. Breaking his concentration on the map, he puts a hand above his iron-caged visor and looks into the sky, hoping to find some clue as to their location.
Alright, we have to be close. Maybe if we look around...
Oh, right.
Bola! Why don't you fly up and see if you can make heads-or-tails out of the landscape. Maybe you can find someone to ask, like I said we should have done an hour ago!
....once again, it wasn't Bola who refused to ask for directions.... at least eight times.

*Bola resisted rolling his eyes. An outdated map and refusal to ask for directions led to this. Klaymoor was as stubborn as ever, that was for sure. He supposed this was to be expected in the end. He was supposed to be his partner, not his care-taker.*
"Yeah, yeah. I'll see what I can do, Klaymoor."
*He vanished in a cloud of smoke, appearing up in the air to look around as he hovered in place. If the landscape hadn't changed too much since they had last been here this could possibly work out for them. Obviously it had, but that didn't change the fact that the landscape was pretty much the chilly air and plains. There weren't very many defining landmarks to use to determine their location nor were there anyone else roaming about the plains at the moment to ask for directions from. If anything Com Square was likely further off than they thought. His eyes could see something that he thought was the city given the size of the city itself, but jeez... Bola patted the back of his head with his left hand a few times.*
"Man, that map is more outdated than I thought. It was way too old for this..."
*It at least had got the mountains right, so that was something. They could work out the rest from there as he put together a path they could take that should get them to where they wanted to be. Much like how he got up there, he vanished again before appearing beside Klaymoor, this time still hovering rather than on his feet. Here goes another hour or so of roaming around...*
"Our landscape happens to be more plain all around us, of course. But the city should be in that direction. Once we head that way for a while we should get there eventually."
*He pointed in the direction he saw and they would have to work it out from there. And just in case, he would have to fly up a few more times and get a good look at their surroundings. This was turning out to be quite the adventure for them. And it had just gotten started even...*

Just the news that Klaymoor so wanted to hear.
Klaymoor: are you sure, Bola? I would have bet that it was right around here somewhere.
Klaymoor then looks down, stifling a mumbled growl as he does so.
Klaymoor: My feet are aching like the undernet... who's idea was it to walk all this way instead of teleporting?!

*Bola had nodded at his words. But then considering what Klaymoor said next, he had yet another thought to himself. Because he could already tell them whose idea it was to walk instead of teleporting from the start of this. Partly for their plan, partly because the plan was built on such because of a stubborn Klaymoor.*
"We could still do that now, y'know? Save our feet and backs a lot of heartache..."
*And this was coming from the guy who was floating for the majority of their trip instead of walking as his partner had done the whole time.*

Klaymoor mumbles to himself at the very idea. Why should they teleport, when walking is such a time-honored tradition? Besides, with how soft the two had grown over the years, this was as fine a way as any to begin toughening up again. But, then again, time was money....
Klaymoor: Fine, we can have it your way this time, Bola.
This was the one being in existence that Klaymoor wasn't absolutely dead-set against conceding a point to, but that didn't mean that he likes to do so.

"Alright then. We can have it your way next time, Klaymoor."
*Considering it would be pretty hard to know what sort of situation they would be in next time, most wouldn't say something like this. But he was alright with letting Klaymoor do things his way. Besides, Klaymoor was the one who complained about sore feet. Another part of the getting old process...*
*And just like that, both vanished in a cloud of smoke as Bola had before. But this time they would find themselves at their destination as opposed to wandering the frozen wilderness. And this time they would get a map proper for if they walked back.*
