While conversing, Xion gets a notification. A new message just arrived unexpectedly.
To: Xion From: Lance Wily
Hey there, you don't know me but my name's Lance. A little birdy told me that you're putting in some good work these days, so I wanted to see if I can help you out somehow. If you're interested in working with someone on the other side, then let me know when we can meet up and iron out some details.

She turned to look at the portal. With her Eye, she made sense of it quickly enough. She looked back at her tree, and she knew that she could just as easily decide that it no longer existed. Her programming made that difficult, of course.
"Your generosity and kindness is rarely found in the realms, oh 'Dark God.' I am simply glad that your divinity does not meet the standards set by my own self-proclaimed Pantheon. All of Her children set themselves aloft, and often forget themselves in the process. It is why after the Ruin, and the Rule, comes the Tribulation.
"I am sure, under different times, the sound of your Joy alone would be enough to awaken the Great Mother. Make no mistake - this is a compliment."
The unnamed tender held up her hand and scribbled a string of the Script into the air, and the line-oriented language glowed with power as she demanded it. The tree compressed itself into a tiny sphere, each of the branches and the apples it grew included, and floated away into the portal.
". . . There is one other who would recognize your work, here. His sight would surely fade before the other Mother Units would, of course, but the most powerful Eye granted to a mortal man belongs to the King, the Murian most favored by the Great Mother. He is set above the Tribes, and even the Angellus. I don't know what has become of him, but if Mother is compromised, then the King who once conquered all the world surely walks beneath their banner. Ra De La Mu - The Sun of the Murian Empire."
She paused and turned, not towards the portal, but towards a branch that wasn't there a second ago. "I'll return to my Realm, now. My Time. Good luck, oh 'Dark God,' and to each of those that fight alongside you."

Merrill, Life, and Death remained quiet as the woman stared down at them. A small chill ran up his spine, but he showed no reaction.
While some of their conversation with Xion went over their heads, it didn't escape them that they could understand that even the converted power from Laplace and Apollon meant they could be discovered or tracked by the opposing forces. Only after Xion made his offering of the space for her to hide part of the roots of her tree, and her subsequent departure, did he speak.
"Apologies for being rather quiet. I didn't have much to offer at the time. I am still trying to understand all that is happening, and being behind the 8-ball probably doesn't help much. But I think I'm slowly starting to put things together. That being said, I gather that there are forces out there that can track us or rather, "keep an eye" on us?"
A small chuckle escaped his lips.
"For "being rusty" with talking with others, she was rather chatty. I hope you were able to gain some answers through the conversation."
He was quiet again.
"The thought of someone being able to spy on me irks me."
"True, and yet right now, there is not much we can do. I'm willing to bet that we will be encountering some of the Murians in the future, that we will have to fight. Don't worry, I'm sure you will get to fight them Death."
"This "king" sounds like an interesting adversary."
A surprising quip from her, Merrill noted. He was brought back from his thoughts by the notification noise.

*Someone said he was doing good work these days? ...Why did that almost send a shiver up his spine? This was getting scarily close to a title he would hate to have the honor of carrying on his shoulders. He would say that he was an up and coming Dark Lord if anything, but considering his reputation already everyone would call him a liar for that one. This was good timing though, as he managed to wrap up the other ventures now and would be able to meet up and iron out those details sooner rather than later.*
To: Lance Wily From: Xion
Contrary to popular belief, your side is more important these days than ever before. We can meet up in half an hour in a location of your choice to iron out some details and so I can have you investigate some details that I discovered. But keep in mind that what I tell you should be kept in the utmost of confidence. Only tell those that you trust implicitly, as it's a matter of life and death.
*He wasn't doing that because he wanted to be secretive, but because it was that important. And if the wrong approach was taken then things would spiral out of control and he wanted to avoid that whenever able. Under other circumstances he would have thought that the 'Dark God' comment was to mock him, but he did set himself up for it and it was still a bit funny to hear it given his stance on deities. Kindness and generosity were traits developed through experience and empathy. Gods very frequently would be lacking in those categories, given their inability to cope with failure or to take them as necessary steps toward a better future outcome. They only ever demanded because they never needed to receive, so they didn't really have an understanding of why it was nice to do that. Or why they would also be made to pay tribute when they forgot what they should be grateful for and in turn subsequently face their own 'Ruin', so to say.*
"In that case, thanks for the compliment. Under different times, I'd like to be able to have a chat with Her instead of always having to butt heads."
*Because he was of the opinion that as long as someone was willing to grow, there was a chance. The only way to find out whether or not she had any hope to turn a new leaf would be in that confrontation. One that she didn't have control over and one where she couldn't just throw a tantrum or force her way. When the powerful found themselves in a situation where they had to truly consider others besides themselves, that was a time when their measure could be revealed. Well, that was just one such example anyway. Still... the Sun of the Murian Empire... he didn't quite have all the details, but he would safely say that King should still be walking amongst them. Call it an educated guess, if you would. Made sense she wouldn't need to go with the tree, as she only came when it wasn't going to take care of itself. It should be fine for her to go be a tender elsewhere instead of having to babysit it.*
"I'll do my best to keep them all alive, myself too of course. You take care yourself as well. Next time, you can just call me Xion."
*Merrill chimed in, to which he nodded in an affirmative. Those things in question would under different circumstances have likely come straight for him already. But from his understanding or at least, this time, not quite an educated guess but a particular theory that he was working with that needed more grounded evidence, there was a reason for that. He'd need a way to prove that, and the only way he could was something that Merrill wouldn't really like. Not like they had control over that either, but suffice it to say that their search for the sun did provide them with a sun that they would be encountering eventually anyway.*
"That does sum it up. It'll be a concern for a bit, but only for so long. After a few fights, you'll probably find that you three will be afforded a fair bit of breathing room. At least so long as you perform well in those fights."

Cool, we can meet up then if the world is still there. I know a thing or two about "life and death" situations too, and something big just sort of came up right after my last message, so if you want to keep things on the former side of the equation, then you might want to head out to space to meet one of my silent partners instead of meeting me right now. Like. pretty quickly, if possible. Coordinates enclosed.

*Huh. That life and death thing sure did work with speeds to surpass Joker's, that was for sure. Joker at least needed close to an hour to make a plethora of mistakes. Dying, as always, only took a few misplaced moments. Suppose things had been peaceful because it was the calm before the storm. Let people get to shelter and think everything was well and a battle wasn't desired and then threaten them once their guard was down. Typical and a well-placed stratagem against their usual behavior.*
"Looks like we have our next step planned out already. Got a message and coordinates here mention we missed a friend recently. We'll use the terminal here to get to space to head over and meet up with them. We'll be moving pretty fast, so keep up."
*Pretty out of the way location, but nothing far enough away where going full tilt would be an issue for distance. He reached his hand into a different dark portal first, holding it there for a few moments. Whatever he was doing, he seemed to finish it quickly enough before he bolted off in a flash. Arriving there and using the pre-registered information would get them to where they needed to go next.*

Having confirmation from Xion was all he needed, making sure he wasn't slowly losing it. He had a feeling he would be learning quite a lot in this new journey.
"I figured. Guess we'll stay extra on guard."
"Good. We can fight them. I'm itching to try and fight with this body."
In a way, it was starting to feel a bit more normal saying "We" than "I". But then again, the habit of kipping them hidden, and Death subdued, then having Apollon and Pandemic, it was almost natural at that point.
Not that he had time to dwell. He heard the notification pings, and before he could ask what their next move was, Xion was already on it. He couldn't hide the tiny smile at the comment of "so keep up." He was interested in which "friend" they had missed. he wondered whom it was.
"You got it."
With that, he followed suit, right on Xion's tail.
