And so they set off for the tower. It was scary. Lalonia really started to think she shouldn't be here. She felt only in the way. She never Navis could be this powerful.. this destructive. After all, Joker was able to level an entire city..? By himself? Lalonia was afraid of the dark thoughts welling in her. She pondered on if the world would be better if no one had brute power, and instead only had the power to heal. A world where everyone can get along.
When she began roaming the internet, she thought there was an era of peace. She thought all navis had limits on their capabilities, their usabilities, she was wrong.
She walked slowly to match pace with Merrill and proceeded to pick up speed, whispering to him.
"Merrill, what do you think of all this? This is.. truly insane no? Ever since the little bit of info you gave me in the forest.. I had a hard time believing it. But now there's even a presence that makes my gut wench, and feel as if gravity was doubled. Why is there need for such hatred?"

Joker listened to Warrior's assessment of the strange mirror, and pulled himself up from his kneeling position. If he had a mirror that he intended to augment his attacks, he would need to make it strong enough to withstand his might, as well. Warrior called himself a Network Buster, though, and he turned to consider the might behind such a name. By what caliber did Warrior earn that title? Was he the same, for what he did to Creamland?
Or, as he was unaware of, did he not qualify because Warrior did it far easier than he?
If the mirror were here, anything they did to it increased the danger of their own means being used to eradicate this land. If he could surely see through the mirror, as well, then, better to just leave it be. He was not one to unnecessarily test his strength, although he did feel tempted to. No, he decided to follow the data, just as Warrior did.
"Our enemy has a great strength of using our own methods against us. We must be prepared to consider new options, lest our tendencies take the better of us. Just as Warrior said - we want to avoid becoming this land's destroyers, or being framed as such."
Joker then turned to Merrill, considering his words. He thought back to his time with Unity, in the ONB, and against the forces that controlled him to garner more power. He shook his head. ". . . No. You don't wish to take my lead. I can show the direction, but we should follow his." He nodded his head to Warrior. "There is much I still have to learn about this world that I was forced to find a way to survive in. I am unfit to make such decisions. Those that I have made make this clear to me. I do not yet have enough data."
And, so, to make true on his own words, Joker followed behind Warrior as the group moved onto the Sky Tower. Joker felt the pressure in the area change, and knew it immediately. It wasn't quite the same, but that pressure . . . something was wrong.
"I've felt this before. It's the same pressure from back then . . . the Crimson Dragon was predatory and unnatural, but this . . . this power was something entirely different. It isn't exactly the same, but, this is a power similar to what came to claim the Crimson Dragon from me."
Joker's power began to unfurl from his body, cloaking over them like a blanket. He decided to dare to tap into the generational's power and peer forward into time, to see what the world had to spare for him.
Hollow.___
Hollow examines the situation quickly, able to connect the dots quickly. As was his norm, he stayed quiet, and thought about what Xion and the others were doing beyond. As the group moved onward, he followed suit, his thoughts elsewhere.
He isn't permitted to dally with his thoughts for long, though. The pressure within the Tower made it impossible for him to focus elsewhere - he recognized the danger, here. Quickly maneuvering about, his void crackled with power as the black lightning arced over his body. He looked for danger, unable to see it yet, and waited for what would come as they ascended further.

#s://i~imgur~com/dk4CQm0~png Warrior listened to Joker's analysis of the feeling in the air, having certainly noticed it himself after stepping inside of the Sky Tower. In his normal state of mind, he may have proceeded more cautiously, but circumstances were more urgent than that; in his mind, Faith was on the line. He drew his sword and moved onward -- nonverbally challenging the eeriness to prevent his advance as he found his way up.
" ... "
The contrast to his regular persona would be impossible to miss, at least to those that knew him at all. While he was normally aimless and hesitant, there was an almost rash fearlessness that kept him moving once his sights were set.
As far as their current situation was concerned: if any presence here was going to disrupt them, it was better that it happened abruptly than gradually, lest it sneak by their detection entirely. The fear of it could certainly concern him, but it was very clear that the fear alone wouldn't slow him down.

As their guards were raised and each made the decision to take that step forward, the pressure bearing down on them seemed to intensify. To make the matters more certain was that a voice would speak out to follow along with this change that began to swell within the tower they were climbing.
"Good. Cowards who would shirk and leave wouldn't deserve a swift end."
It would remove the fear of it sneaking up on them gradually and devouring them whole in one fell swoop. No, as they climbed the tower with those words behind them they would reach the halfway mark of this structure when they would meet their likely obstacle. An individual who was seated at the edge of the stairs leading further up. A fully brown and mechanical one, he had elongated shoulders and the tips of his feet elongated slightly upward as well. Rather than appearing as armor, it was more like he was a humanoid machine close to size of Joker himself when he stood up from his seated position. It was a rather plain design on the surface... but orange stripes started to form along the design. The swirl that surrounded him to Merrill felt like death itself. The swirl that surrounded him to Lalonia felt like hatred itself. The swirl that surrounded him to Joker felt like power itself. The swirl that surrounded him to Hollow felt like emptiness itself. The swirl that surrounded him to Warrior felt like decimation itself.
In all ways and forms, it felt like nothing less than a threat just from his presence being here without any words or signs given. As two green orbs began to gleam on his head to be presumed as eyes.
"...But to what do I owe the honor of meeting you stalwart few at this hour?"

#s://i~imgur~com/dk4CQm0~png Warrior kept his sword drawn during the ascent, vigilant but not despondent at the words that echoed from above. He kept close with the others ast they continued on, then brought his pace to a halt as they arrived at the source of the voice and presumably the eerie presence here.
" Depends on if you know a Jax. "
The tone in his voice, the sharpness in his eyes -- it was evident that he didn't intend to waste much time talking and that his intention of moving forward wasn't intimidated by the guest, much less the swirl that held its unique meaning to each of them.
" If not, we'll need to get by. "
Sky Tower had its own reputation among Gigamericans, and Warrior was plenty familiar with it. He didn't expect this to be a peaceful climb and didn't shirk from the understanding of the matter. His demeanor alone would be enough to prompt the others to prepare themselves for what was next.

A swift end? Those words did not linger long before they emerged from a bend in the stairs that led them to a robotic being seated on the far end, strange orange marks coating its body as the aura formed around it. To Joker, he detected the power - a source that would normally prompt Joker to test his might against it.
Joker considered what kind of power it possessed, and wondered if it was truly capable of the amount of power he could unleash. He also wondered why, specifically, it radiated power - was it another show of their focus on his capabilities, or was it something more?
The answer was pretty simple, of course, because it didn't matter what the answer was. Warrior held forward his sword and made their case clear, and Joker followed suit by glaring at the aggressor through his blue visualizer. He allowed the power to roil off of his form ever more, declaring his own threat to the would-be defender. He would not be stopped by anything. Not again.
Hollow.___
Hollow followed the ominous voice, never once feeling the fear that the voice was intended to inflict, and only feeling the rise of conflict as they turned the corner. The tension in the air rose as the robotic being stared them down, and they were met with its passive stance and a question to their purpose. Hollow strangely detected a kindred spirit among him, which did not make any sense to him. This knowledge perplexed him, and he was unsure what to do with it. If his power was void, as well, would it be as morphic as his? Was it a facsimile to get his interest or to stoke his nonexistent anger? Was it simply that the being reflected that which the other despised, represented, or sought after? He would not know. He could not honestly admit that he cared.
No, what he wanted - well, that was complicated, to say the least. He was still unsure, and still reeling over what had come before. No, even now, he stayed silent, and waited for whatever would unveil. He allowed the energy that crackled over his body be his answer to the thing's question as he pressed forward, making it clear that he intended to protect himself if he must, but would simply pass by the robot if he was allowed to.

As he strode side by side with Lalonia, he could sense that she was struggling with something, as the thread between them gave some indication. He stole a quick glance, his eyes verifying as he glanced at her soft features. He was conflicted on his own action at first, as they strode silently for a moment behind Warrior and Joker.
He was lost in his own thoughts, dealing with his own feelings keeping his mind sharp as they progressed. The feeling of being watched not leaving him, doing his best to remain level headed. His arm acted instinctively, reaching out and grabbing her hand, giving it a soft, gentle squeeze. Just as he did so, she whispered softly to him, startling him, despite his features not showing it. He listened quietly, as she spoke, thinking of his response. While he was thinking, he let go of her hand, instead patting her head gently once.
"Lalonia..."
He sighed, placong his other hand to his forehead for a moment.
"I honestly don't know why hatred is so prominent. I do not know why beings can fall prey to hatred so easily... Different emoions... are easily felt by different beings. But you as a very deep question. One that I cannot answer."
He was quiet for a moment.
"In some ways... It is easier to hate and be angry. In a world like this, with such constant fighting and violence... It makes sense that beings use that hate to try and get what they want. That doesn't make it right. "
His mind flashed back to the forest after he gave into his anger after Warrior blew up the aqua net, killing their own allies within their... "family" in his mind. It was easy. He did his best to hide it, but he was disgusted with himself for his actions, and for hurting others.
Within him, Death snorted.
"Hate is easy. Giving into it is easy. Beings fall prey so easily to negative emotions and feelings because they are weak. Because they prefer an easier path. You should know that well, boy..."
"Hate... is just the absence of love... And right now, in this universe more beings spread hate than love right now..."
Merrill was surprised by Life's quiety whispered answer. He felt Death look over at her with a disgruntled and scorned expression.
he whipered quietly, just barely loud enough for Lalonia to hear.
"Because this world lacks the love it needs to flourish...
He too, felt that way. He couldn't deny it.
He turned and listened to Joker as he spoke. He couldn't help but let the edges of his lips curl up in a small smile at his words.
For what it's worth, Joker, I want to see you survive, and what you come to think of this world. You are an interesting fellow. I look forward to your analysis as you gather more data."
Not only that, but Joker made one VERY good point.
"We cannot afford to harbor that negative label of "Destroyers".
The world was a very dangerous place. It was impossible to know if they would survive. He hoped that they all would be able to build a brighter future. But that future needed power. and a lot of it. More than they currently had. But Lalonia raised a good point. Was power the correct answer?
But before he could continue as they walked, until they came to a stop as a figured seemed to be blocking their path.
After the figure spoke about denying "a swift end", he frowned, looking up toward the obstacle. Just as he was thinking about how people would survive this crisis. He took a half step, putting himself in a position to protect Lalonia in an instant. As the orange blow began, and a familiar feeling washed over him. His heart skipped a beat, his body, mind and soul all reacting. He felt that glow before...
"..."
Death stood up within his space. His eyes flashed as he stared at Merrill with intrigue.
Like Warrior, his white and black blades of Life and Death gently flashed to existence, hovering in front of him. He knew this would come down to a fight. In a way, he couldn't understand why, but why this chill of death both hardened his resolve, and made him more curious about himself. Questioning his own existence. But now was not the time for such thoughts. He cleared his mind, and took a single deep breath, his body beginning to quietly gather energy from around them... His eyes showing sharpness, grit and determination of his own...

Lalonia listened to Merrill fully. It was a good answer, really, but she couldn't help but continue to wonder.. until a new presence appeared. A presence Lalonia could only describe as pure hatred. Everyone seemed to ready their stances against the unknown occupant, but despite the emotion in the room she decided to plea.
She took a step forward.
"Sir, we mean no harm and want no quarrel. We are simply investigating the tower in search of answers. We apologize if this tower belongs to you, but there's been some serious events happening out there. My friends and I need all the valuable assets we can muster to settle things as peacefully as possible. Please hear us out!"

His eyes moved to analyze each of them. The pep in Warrior's gait as he would put it meant he was likely aware of his miscalculation in his previous adventure's conclusion. Two of these being here was surprising, but the inevitable didn't always happen suddenly, so their presence was fine as well. And the remaining two were interesting to him for reasons different than the other three. Those reasons were kept to himself, as he instead decided to answer both the question and the plea in kind.
"I know of a statue named Jax. If you continue on up, you can't miss it. It's in pretty bad shape thanks to slamming its head against a wall twice, but it isn't without worth. Just head on up and get it back to where you want."
With that the strange being lifted off of the floor that they were on and hovered upward, ascending the Sky Tower that was missing its original owner. On the one hand a conflict was avoided then and there and they at least got the confirmation that the Jax they were looking for was here, though a statue wasn't exactly what they were looking for either? The answer to that would be gained by heading further upward just as he had done. The feelings that they felt on intiation was still present when he was gone, so whether or not he was the focal point was difficult to discern still. They would be able to head back down if they wanted without an issue, but heading further along would reveal a strange sight for them: a strange and unruly rift that sat just above the garden that rested at the top up in the air, small and just enough to fit them as if it had just opened for them recently.

#s://i~imgur~com/dk4CQm0~png Warrior lowered his weapon as the being ascended, having noticeably not dropped his guard at any point before that, and even still kept it raised despite losing the menacing demeanor.
" Good instinct, Lalonia. "
This saved them a bunch of time, which he certainly appreciated given his current goals. Lalonia seemed much more fit for defusing than he was, given how his previous methods held up, so it was a pleasant surprise that it worked this time.
As they made their own way up the tower, he observed the scene before making a decision, showing a little more caution this time, but still less than he normally would in his unrushed state.
" Didn't see any statues along the way, so I'm assuming he'll be past this rift. "
Could have also been a trap, or simply an exit that they were lied into taking, but given no other leads and no other way forward, they really didn't have much choice in the matter. It was either proceed or leave, now.
Given the circumstances, that choice was easy to make for Warrior, but the rest would have to make it themselves after he had stepped into the rift to see what was beyond it.

Joker.DB
Joker narrowed his gaze, befuddled, as the unknown entity rose upwards, allowing them past. He looked down at Lalonia, whose words presumably resulted in his leaving. Was it truly so simple a task, to ask another to let you by? He had yet to encounter someone that wasn't intent on stopping his advance.
Not since he had escaped, fighting for his right to exist, from those that created him.
He didn't comment on it, for now, waiting to see if it were some sort of trick. As they moved forward, he expected an assault, anything that would give off the hint that his generosity wasn't all that it seemed. His retreat was genuine, however, as Joker did not see him again, and they reached the top of the tower, from which the energies that he had detected from below collected with such intensity.
Warrior did not analyze the situation, first. He had assumed him a caution man, but Warrior marched forward, heedless of what dangers may await for them on the other side. Joker tried to analyze it, but couldn't quite get a read on it. This troubled him, but, he had to move onward despite it. It seemed that whatever they were searching for was on the other side of that rift, so, just as they had done with Xion, before, Joker stepped forward into the unknown.
Immediately, as he stepped forward, something felt wrong, but he couldn't back away from it. The eerie sensation was something that felt antithetical to him, as though he and it were not meant to coexist.
He was reminded of the last time he felt something akin to this. That wrong presence that radiated from the unknown being that came to claim the Crimson Dragon's power after him. He was reminded of how sure he felt, then, to chase down that power, the route to which he still knew, and how much his path had changed since that occurred.
All that would come, in due time. He was determined to claim the power of the generational, for himself, but that was, perhaps, a goal he could no longer claim alone. One he no longer needed to chase after alone. He stepped into the void.
Hollow.___
Lalonia's words may have done the deed, but Hollow simply kept walking forward despite it. As the being rose above them, Hollow did not wait for the others, continuing forward at his leisurely pace. While the others stayed on edge, Hollow simply kept up the energies that told all ahead he would strike them down if they made him do so. What followed was the presence of the rift.
He could see the void, but could not detect anything from it. Such was the nature of such a thing. He felt something that was strange, as though it tried to repel him, but he did not feel uneased by it. He did not have that potential within him. As he stepped forward, he realized that, more and more, he was losing access to his own Void. The Undimension did not yield to him, not before this thing, as though it were a place beyond even its reaches.
He was unsure how he felt about that. He decided to settle on the word "disliked," but, still, it was the next course in this plan of action they were set upon. If a purpose laid beyond it, what more could he do than seek it out?
Hollow, too, stepped into the void.
It was as the first three left that the new pressure reached the top of the tower. On one side, they were faced with the rift into the unknown, and the strange presence of something that simply didn't belong. On the other, an incredible weight, as though a well of incredible power moved towards them. At an instant, the Net seemed to bend towards it, and a second later, mastery of its density was claimed, and the four little golden wings spiraled ominously around the tower. Those that remained could still feel the incredible weight coming from them, but no longer felt dragged towards it, as they had when it first arrived.
Small scan lines emitted from the tips of the golden wings, scanning over the tower, and harmlessly tracking up and down those that remained atop it. Whatever this power was, it did not seem immediately dangerous - just inquisitive. They scanned over Merrill for much longer than Lalonia, the black and white scanlines suddenly turning bright red as they scanned over him.
Energy began to well at the tip from one of the four wings, its tails turning inward and pulling back to bring the silver piece that focused the energy to its forefront, each piece moving independently of one another as it seemed more and more like a gun aimed to fire.

Hearing Lalonia's plea brought Merrill back into focus, out of his battle ready stupor. He admired her both for her courage in that moment, and was reminded that not everything had to be resolved with violence. Much to his surprise, the being gave the team useful information, and began floating up without a fight. Despite the retreat, Merrill kept his own guard up even as he let his swords again vanish.
He took a step forward, and patted Lalonia’s head. A small smile rose from his cheeks as he offered her praise.
"Way to go. Way to defuse the situation. That was the first time in a very long time that such a plea negated a threating encounter that could have easily turned violent."
With his praise finished, he turned to advance with the others. Their ascent continued quietly, with no talk between them, only the sounds of their feet occasionally making noise.
Upon reaching the top of the staircase that the team had climbed, had another rift, different from the one they had arrived in. Due to his heightened awareness state, he didn't speak up or stop Warrior, Joker and Hollow from walking through the rift without discussing a plan.
He sighed, stopping several feet before he walked into the portal. The eerie feeling from the being prior still bothered him. But not for the existence of that being before. That sense of death, be it for himself, or others lingered on his mind. His body reacting to it. He couldn't describe how it made him feel, words would not work.
However, this heightened state suddenly alerted him to something. He could sense a high level of energy being generated. He couldn't see it, but he could feel it, coming from somewhere nearby. Doing his best to remain calm, he spoke quietly.
"Ladies first."
He took a step down, stepping closer to her. He offered out his hand to her, to help her with the last couple of stairs, fully aware of the gathered energy. He hoped that she would take the next steps to enter the rift behind the others, so that they could keep her safe.
Something he was terrified that he couldn't do.

Lalonia sighed heavily. Thankfully for once somebody was willing to hear them out. It was unfortunate however reaching the top and not finding who they were looking for. Instead, another portal opened with another game to be played. She found herself exhausted as it was already, though she noticed a friend offering a helpful hand and accepted gladly.
"Thank you, Merrill. We should hurry, too. I've slowed you guys down enough."
Lalonia steps through to the void as/if Merrill does.

The wings continued to charge this energy, until it unleashed all of that stored power in a flash of light. Four hair-thin beams of energy trailed from their tips, arcing in impossible ways as they traveled through the air, looping back inward on themselves to create a lattice-work of interwoven beams for Merrill to deal with. The lattice-work array of lasers made it more difficult to avoid, but the force of the individual rays were also more than sufficient to cripple even the most powerful of foes.
An incredible weight, unforeseen thus far, seems to drag Merrill's movements, an intensive energy that darts from unseen angles to surround the lasers. This incredible weight almost seems to drag Merrill closer to the lasers, making them more difficult to avoid, and as he avoids one set, they seem to overlay with space itself to come from another wild angle.

As luck would have it, As soon as Lalonia reached out to take his hand, the being that had been gathering it's energy suddenly took it's move. He grabbed her hand, and switched their positions, putting her right next to the rift, as he darted away from the garden and the rift. He felt the lasers fire from whatever had been channeling them and could tell that they were homing in on him faster than his current speed. Both Life and Deathbecame much more alert and hypervigilant as soon as the beams energies were released.
"Take great caution! Those are not ordinary energy beams!"
"That energy.... I've never felt anything like that.
Their outbursts weren't surprising, as his own senses were screaming at him to avoid at all costs.
And they were quick! He barely had time to reach the edge of the stairs before the lasers honed in on him, too close for his liking. He took a final step, turned, and raised his hand as several of the lasers got close. The first set seemed to stop and shatter as if they clashed with a wall. However, the unexpected pulling feeling distorted his concentration, and several of the beams pierced right through. He could feel the pull on his body, and to counteract this somewhat, ramped up life energy that he pulled from around him, Lalonia and near the winged being. Oddly enough, the life energy around the wings didn't budge, as if gravity had an powerful hold over that space. He tested this by commanding the life energy, to no avail. This both intrigued and worried him, but most of all, was helpful information.
His body emitted some of that energy as teal, yellow, white, blue light. His crystal also emitted a faint glow, his eyes gaining that hue as his body reacted to threats, pushing his heightened senses to an active battle state.
Just as they seemed to touch him, his body vanished, as if his existence had faded away entirely. Several of the beams of energy flew into the wall behind where he had been previously. To his, Life and Death's surprise, the remaining lasers seemed to understand and trace his movement, as they changed direction and preceded to aim towards his new location: The edge of the garden.
Knowing that there was plenty of distance between himself and Lalonia, he rapidly generated and released more energy around him. This energy was threaded with crimson and black crystal-like, almost as if it was alive. It rotated around his form, and the energy was deadly in it's own right, as each of the remaining beams that touched the strange aura vanished, consumed and erased from existence...
