"Polaris?"
He may have been standing around idly near the middle of the city of Limmous, but it wasn't hard for the Pyroclasm to notice. It was never hard to make note of the light-show that sword put on when wielded. Anyone using it would be telling anyone with enough sense that they were there. And that meant that the only one who could send that signal had sent just that: Xion. He had picked it up last and would no doubt not hand it away so easily, nor were there many who could even forcibly pry the weapon from his grasp. Of the darkloids that existed he always stood head and shoulders above them as one of the few master darkloids, even more true to this day. But why would he draw the sword... he smirked. So that was the angle he was playing, was it? He could be both crafty and cheeky in the same breath.
"Using it to draw the NIA to that position, letting me know where that is, all so you could do one of two things: slip by when I left, or engage me while I was here. No doubt the latter was the one that little tyrant was really after."
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. While Xion had been patient due to how many outlying factors could get in the way of his goals, he was never one to shy away from resistance for his goals. Dreams accomplished without effort weren't exactly large dreams, after all. Fine then...
He'd accept the gauntlet thrown to him. Especially after the results of their previous three confrontations.

*He arrived in a blanket of shadows, the sphere of darkness dispersing as he touched down. And near the center of the city was exactly who he was expecting it to be. His eyes didn't show any surprise about this, but rather a bit of glee instead. This was the one he wanted to have the real test of mettle against as it were anyway. And one that he would need to show given their last encounter.*
"You being here serves to confirm my suspicions after all, Rosso."
*He had someone who was watching last time after all, so for the one who saw him then, he would show several things right here and now. How he managed to escape that snare, how he would face off against the one who imprisoned him before, and how he would accomplish his objective even with the very same being in the way of his path. He was nothing if not a man of his word.*
"After all, the Polaris is no risk to you, be it the sword itself or the original wielder. That guy's just a big walking target and you're his worst match-up. That meant you were after the city and the lake of bugs, which you took care of while using the sword as an excuse for those of us who were none the wiser. I hadn't given it much thought back then as I was focused on just the sword, but you also had responded in a rather timely fashion. Almost like you had been right next door the whole time. Almost like this village mysteriously putting itself here was a flag of its own."

So he was saying that unlike most, he was able to put together a puzzle when the pieces were in front of him. Admittedly he was still rather impressed. With how perceptive everyone was, he figured that this was just another thing that would skirt by with none the wiser. For that very reason he had taken his time with this rather than wrap it up in a concise fashion like the ones prior. This way also happened to work quite well with the events leading up to it.
"It's simple enough to manipulate the perception of others. Be it what they take at face value or what they perceive from what you give them. That acceptance, that doubt, opens the doors for those who seek to utilize that very same acceptance and doubt. The truth is often in the eyes of the beholder, but your presence here shows that you can see clearer than others now. The reason for that is plain to me as well."
The village around them seemed to shift then, appearing as though they were standing on black glass and with a dark vortex surrounding them. Near its center was something that was gathering up and taking form, a swirl of blue that was collecting into the star at the center. This village created to stand as the testament to the recovery of the battle months ago not at all being as it appeared to be. Because the truth of the matter was something much different than the world believed it to be.
"You're just in time to have your goal snatched from you. You couldn't stop me before and nothing has changed from then to now. I doubt that thought deters you, so I'll start us off."
And so the fire was lit, welling up in his left hand as he raised his right. And as he had time and again, he snapped his finger as an explosion was triggered upon Xion. The first spark to light the fires of the conflict that was to take place.

*Well wasn't that the truth. You could either play off of their paranoia or off of their earnesty, either way there were any number of ways to manipulate someone. He didn't have to comment on why if Rosso here already had the general idea, though now the town of dusk was shaping up to its ideal form. He liked how bold they were to put something like this so plainly in the open, yet out of sight and out of mind. And Rosso being around these parts was simply in case someone unwanted was around. The last time at the lake, he himself was the factor that caught Rosso's attention. Because he was closer to something they didn't want him near and left alone once it was realized that he hadn't caught on. But there was a time and place for everything, once again not avoiding the flame that served as the opening for the battle.*
"Sorry, but I've grown weary of folks stopping me at the finish line. I won't be having it happen anymore. Besides, I think I have another problem figured out about our lovely puzzle here."
*Xion's left arm let forth a shadowy aura as a sword-breaker sprung forth from it, the standard dark sword coming to his right arm as he lunged forward, unleashing a whirl of bladed blows before he put away both and unleashed two spheres of flame that erupted after. Notably, the approach was different than the last time he had fought Rosso. But that was partly because he was seeking confirmation on his own word yet again.*

He wasn't surprised that he would choose this route once more. Last time it was because of pure hubris, this time likely still hubris, but also because he was sure of himself. Then they would engage in kind, preparing to unleash the flames again as Xion went to attack. But as Xion approached, Rosso's gaze narrowed ever so slightly as Xion struck the field around him, Rosso unleashing a surge of infernal force to drive him back after he was done. Well now...
"Heh. ...So something has changed after all. Another surprising individual, but... Resonance's efforts hardly end well for others."
Then he would be a bit more aggressive than he was with the others he engaged. From the mounts of his wrist spewed forth flaming claws, lunging straight at Xion in a barrage before unleashing a flame that illuminated that obsidian vortex they found themselves in. He didn't think that this would happen, but he was willing to admit to his error in judgment as well. This one wasn't as straight and narrow as he made himself out to be.

*There was that bit that he was used to before, taking the force in stride as he was driven back, halting it as he caught himself on his own feet to prepare for the actual offensive next. The shadows rose up to meet the barrage, the gouts of flames driving him back and banishing that very same darkness by the end of it as Xion still stood, his eyes gleaming ever so slightly in the world of night they found themselves in. He supposed all the credit didn't go to Resonance alone this time. The two who both went down that day, Resonance and Chew Toy alike managed to make the picture more clear to him.*
"Typically yeah, his efforts would be. Good intentions don't always have positive outcomes. He understood this, but never cowered before that very real possibility of failure time and again. Others aren't quite as determined as he was even when others kicked him while he was down. But that still didn't stop you from being a bit of a sly one in that fight either. Because the reason he couldn't scratch you is a lot simpler than it appeared to be."
*It didn't give him a definitive answer, but it was enough of one that he had the general gist of how it could only be concluded the way it had. Even if Rosso hadn't been roundabout as he had been, he had the win all the same. The method he chose was simply the best approach and kept the most out of sight, out of mind. It was a logical approach to take when you had the advantage. Keep your cards to yourself and only have them revealed at the most opportune moment for you.*
"And that simple reason is that the defense you're using against me is the same one you used against Serix, but it isn't the one you used against Resonance. We can't exactly discern its true form and all, but that much is clear. You used this one against her and I because you were certain we didn't match the requirements to deal with it until we did. But you were certain that Resonance would've had better odds than we did. So either you have more than one field, can change the conditions of them, or merely swapped it with another confidant of yours. I don't need all the details about it."
*The details that were essential he possessed as is. So he held out his hand, a frigid chill coming to the very air as he fired a veritable moon from his hand alongside several flames of darkness, a dark purple arm-blade forming from his right arm as he followed up the barrage with a strike of the weapon, his arm reverting back as an ashen scythe came to hand as he moved to take Rosso from behind next, releasing a fiery blaze across the arc he made when he swung the very weapon.*

"Good intentions don't always have positive outcomes." What a thing to hear here of all places. And while Xion kept up the pressure he did get the end result that he desired, breaking through with his next attempt as Rosso moved to meet the strikes with his left arm, turning as Xion came from behind to block with his right, moving back only slightly from the barrage. It didn't leave any lasting harm as the force of before was expelled once again, holding his hand forward.
"So you were confident enough in your deduction to risk it all. Either way, you managed to achieve some headway. I suppose a reward is in order."
He didn't betray any answer to Xion's deductions and Xion himself said he was fine without all the details anyway. There was a small ember that formed in his hand, letting it float forward ever so slowly from his hand. He then aimed his index and middle finger at that small ember as it began to spiral, steadily gaining a light that was turning what was once night into day before it erupted. Like a shooting star set forth, it blazed a trail between them and directly at Xion in the span of an instant.

*Yeah, that was a reward alright. One that some would say was tailor-made just for him to try and make him sweat a little. However, this was just what he needed, calling darkness around him like an orb that was caught in the flame in the instant he was launched, dragging him along with it across the black space and right into the swirling mass at its epicenter. And it was here that he halted himself as he hit the mass, his darkness surging and driving off the flames as soon after, slowly, but surely Roman Numerals from I to XII surrounded the central piece of the puzzle, all glowing a bright blue and gray. They began to slowly move, a loud ticking sound would be heard by them as the numbers began to glow. Twelve was chosen to be black, and the one was a deep crimson red that bled into the other numbers until they were mixed. A black and deep crimson took the twelve numerals, as a silver steadily overtook them. The shades of three gave off an energy that radiated from Xion and quickly covered the void, causing it to glow a dark blood-red tone with a frightful dark energy. As the wave that transformed the space finished, silver and bright red was cast aloft as a black beam of energy fell from the sky, striking the epicenter and reflecting a beam in all directions, as rings of similar void form around begin to draw every bit of energy from its form. As the energy was drawn outward and inward, his crimson eyes gleamed through the darkness, his form still shrouded within. It had taken far too long, but a goal achived was a goal achived all the same.*
"Quite the reward indeed, Rosso..."

Seeing his attack hit its mark as expected in ordinary circumstances, his eyes narrowed still. Because the dots were connecting as to why Xion's movements had been chosen as they had been. As it stood it was all decided now, knowing well what the numbers were for. So ultimately the "prize" he was after wasn't the ultimate program of darkness, but rather something that he was inspired to do after years ago. Something that he waited and gathered all the tools to make it quite the mirror image of what happened all those years ago as well. The core that he kept, the strength that he gathered, the methods that he learned, a culmination of various factors to lead up to the new path that he would carve open himself, not unlike the time their passed biohazard suit offered a diamond to the world thanks to a puppeteer.
"...Curious. Fine, let's test it out then."
To see how much power was attributed to the birth of another darkness from the same result. The number had grown in the world, and unlike the others, this one was fresh to discover the various angles that it possessed. The flame that was dispelled returned to his hand, becoming a sphere shining like a star in the deep abyss that they were in. He crushed it in hand, letting it fall from his hand like collected ashes as the fragments fired off with similar force in vein to his previously fired blast. He started to move his free arm after as well, his intent behind it clear that he wasn't expecting the destructive salvo used to be enough as is.

*With the attacks from Rosso launched, a black pulse-wave erupted forth from him along with a blinding flash that accompanied it. Rosso's blaze cut through, but they had missed their mark, tearing across the space as the crimson eyes continued to gaze back as the black space was set ablaze with an inferno of crimson flames, adorned by a thick black smoke that fell to the ground instead of rising. And with an eruption of dark power beckoned forth from his entire form, the smoke as cast aside. And his shadowy figure looked down to his hand, opening and closing it twice.*
"Doom and gloom, huh... So this is what he felt like that day. It's doubtful that these urges didn't win over, so I suppose that makes us enemies as of now. After all, I'm only fine because this drive is nothing new to me."
*The darkness at last fell from the tyrant to unveil his form. The shades of black he once had in his armor had tinged over to a deep purple instead, the white gems becoming a hue of blue instead, the black tinge in their center remaining. He had two more additional spikes from his back, from four to six, also being a hue of blue, having a black line running through each of them. Around his wrists appeared to be broken handcuffs, a silver flame burning lightly on both, but not with very much intensity. Around his ankles were what appeared to be legcuffs instead, but instead of a flame, they had a small swirl of silver that appeared to have blue stars inside of it. He had a general idea of how to work with this now, several purple flames starting to circle around him as they fired off a blast of their own each in return for the shot that Rosso sent toward him just previously. It was about time to start experimenting with it as well.*
"If it's a test you want, I'm all for it. I'll be out of your hair before long though."

He lifted up his arm, the cloak he wore bearing the brunt of the attack. It did have an expected increase in force behind it. And while he was masked behind the cloak, it served to hide the small smirk that came to his face then. And there was a surge of force that arose from him, a familiar yet unfamiliar feeling behind it. He lowered his arm, this time not initiating and instead holding his arm forward, motioning his hand for Xion to begin instead. He had the time remaining to work around this, so he he would do so.
"Then come. At your ready."

*In that case he would start things off as he was asked, moving one leg back to the pivot position. He reeled back his right arm, the flame intensifying as it sent a surge coiling up his arm as he launched off a serpent of silver darkness, snaking about the field and swarming the once vibrant knight not in incandescence, but in a pale darkness instead. Certainly a new move from him as well, and the first of the ones he wanted to test now that things had changed.*

As the silver came at him, his movement blurred as if reality was breaking around him. He blurred to and from, moving through the flames as what was left behind was a distinct feather for each that was avoided. When he stopped he had his hand held forward, the feathers each coming to his side as they erupted into blazing comets, each fired off in rapid succession in return for the offensive that was sent his way. He didn't make a move aside from this however, though the area itself was steadily beginning to heat up from what felt like his very presence alone.

*The movement seemed a bit foreign at first, but then again... it wasn't? No, rather there was a sense of familiarity to be had here. He held out his hand, a colorless vortex coming to it as the blazing comets all met their match with it, spiraling around as the vortex expanded to accomodate them all. He didn't have much hands on experience with that turkey either, but he didn't live under a rock unlike a fair portion of their recent society. What an empty sensation it was too...*
"Falzar, huh? Though I don't recognize those moves from it either. Guess you've been innovative with your profits so far."
*If they had taken them and just used them directly then it wouldn't have been very interesting. Not only was it difficult to discern heads or tails that he was utilizing it, it was also with a higher pedigree than what came before. So no doubt they had done something similar with all of the ones in their employ. It meant relying on old knowledge would just get you caught up in their plan all the same, releasing the vortex as the comets all soared back at Rosso instead. He didn't expect it to do anything like his other moves before this, so it was a matter of determining what his next move would be while under the heat.*

His own returned force would meet the field that usually was around his form, crashing harmlessly against it. But he held out his hand, the flame that started to form then seeming quite different than any he mustered up to this point. It started as a hue of orange and yellow, then changed to a blend of red and blue, before settling on a pure white that then turned into a void of black that seemed to swallow light itself until it settled back on the red and orange as he then aimed his hand upward.
"A solid deduction. It would all be pointless otherwise. Then I suppose you won't mind if I up the ante now?"
He fired the flame upward, the sky itself and the world beneath its touch becoming as crimson, as though it were about to rain fire itself from the very heavens above. From that small speck in the sky would erupt forth a veritable storm of death. It wasn't even a 'storm' to call it as such. It had simply radiated with heat that turned the world itself into a hue of orange and red. The very net around them was melting away and engulfed in a searing blaze that reduced everything into a barren, scorched earth soaked in fire. Even the black void seemed to be affected, as even it seemed to start dissolving under the force of its mere presence in the distance alone.
