Open Challenge! Specifics: -Intro posts: as many as needed. Battle will be marked as starting on the post it begins at. Possibly in 30-foot glowing letters. Or maybe just a very visible header. Don't know yet. -Battle length: 10 posts each. -Single judging seems to be the norm here, so let's go with that. -Story Version: Yes! I'm only a V1, but I'm willing to take on a challenge (as long as my chances of winning aren't non-existent)! -Version Bonus Points: I have no idea what these things are, so I'm going to say nope to them, at least for my first battle.
I think that covers all the required points. This will be my first battle on MMM, so opponent must be willing to help me through it if I make a mistake.
Without further adieu, time to begin!~
PuppetMan awoke to find himself in a cold sweat. It wasn't the first time he'd had that nightmare, and it probably wouldn't be the last either. Still, the memory continued to haunt him, even after 500 years. Hadn't he suffered enough?
No, there was no point to thinking like that. Rising to his feet, the tiny blue navi stepped out from his hiding spot: a small alleyway in Rammount City's western region. It was a fair distance from the towering Rammount Castle, but people were more friendly to beast navis in this part of town. Emerging into the bustling roads, PuppetMan did his best to not draw attention to himself; he was on a hunt, and intended to be the predator, not the prey.
The catlike navi was only slightly bigger than a mettaur, making it easy to pass unseen on the streets, but not unscathed. Occasionally some navi or another would bump their leg into PuppetMan's head, though he would always move away before the navi responsible could notice him; all PuppetMan needed was another early morning accusation of him being a virus.
Eventually, the blue cat navi reached the outskirts of Rammount City, where his hunt could truly begin. "Now then," he mused quietly to himself, "who should I play with this time..."

Tiptaptiptap. The sound if claws scratching the terrain could be heard from a little far away. Someone was rustling in the distance. Their objective? Unknown. Perhaps training. Perhaps busting. Who could know for sure?
There was no one to know anyway. Nightshade hopped left and right, stretcing his muscles, speedying about his own business. Lost in his mental fanatasy world, the cat like zoanoroid was going through the motions not really focusing on a particular move to execute. He was there just to unwind.
Stopping for a moment to catch his breath, the navi recollected himself, his long thin tail waving in slow low arcs just above the ground.

PuppetMan slid to a halt upon hearing a repetitive clicking. Prey, he thought to himself. PuppetMan didn't like the idea of just randomly attacking a virus or navi from out of the blue, but he needed to do something - anything - to push the memory away again. The navi cautiously crept forward towards the noise, his eyes darting about in case this was a trap. Some humanoid-type navis would do that from time to time.
The clicking stopped just before PuppetMan reached its source. From behind a small outcropping, PuppetMan peeked over at what he assumed to have been the origin of the now missing noise. A large beast-type navi was a short distance away, currently motionless apart from its long and thin tail. A twang of uncertainty rose within PuppetMan as glowing pink threads began to slide from the tips of his fingers; should he attack now? What if they're stronger than him? What if they're not? Just how far was he willing to go?

"Yosh! .1 overall increase in speed. I'm getting the hang of it." Nightshade said to no one in particular. Looking around, the zoanoroid found a rock to hop on. Once he was nicely settled in his new space, the black cat began fiddling with his rubber armor and open toed boots, wiggling his feet paws around. "Hm...I might need to change boots soon-ish. The rubber's starting to look a little too worn out. Oh well, NSD can always build me a new pair. Maybe it's even better than-uh?"
The navi turned his head. His keen senses heard some rustling that was not him running around. "Hello? Anyone there?"

PuppetMan's mind was racing; he'd noticed! It was decision time; either he attacked, fled, or met.
Stepping slowly around the outcropping came the smaller cat navi. "Um, hello there," he said with a nervous twitch. "I heard you moving about and thought I might have found a sparring partner. What do you say? Up for a bit of cat and mouse?"

Nightshade's eyes picked down on some movement. A smaller...thing...that was looking more of a cat than him. Curious. Curious indeed. "Oh? Wow what are you! You're so cut-eh? You wanna fight me? Uhh sure. I could use some warmup."
The zoanoroid tilted his head in interest. "I'm Nightshade. Nightshade.Rx, by the way. Do you have a name? Are you a talking virus? I've never seen anything like you."

Battle Starts Here! "I'm not a virus!" PuppetMan shouted, his eyes narrowing to slits as tension built in his face. "My name is PuppetMan, and I'm a navi." The pink threads that had retracted before slid out from his fingertips once again, falling into the tiny navi's equally tiny shadow. As the strings touched the shadow, it began to grow larger, until finally opening up. From within the shadows emerged a large cobra-like entity, its body white as snow, except for the hood, which was instead blue as night. Three blades floated near each side of the hood, moving almost like wings. Upon its chest was PuppetMan's emblem. As it rose into the air, its pink eyes shot open, and upon its head glowed the number "5". Suddenly lurching, the serpent pulled its tail into the air above Nightshade before bringing it crashing down. "And in this battle, I intend to be the predator, not the prey!"

"Awww look at that cute squeaking!" Nightshade mused, easily backflipping away from danger in one fluid motion. "It's not gonna be that easy to win!"
Nightshsade lowered on all fours, studying the cobra. This guy was a puppet master. Trying to fight the puppet would only make him lose time and energy. He would have to try a different approach. Zig zagging to close the distance, the cat navi created a black orb that hurdled at the opponent. It rolled about...harmlessly...for now.
A metallic shink echoed as a pair of sharp claws popped out to shred anyone standing the navi's way to ribbons! The cat navi leaped up high, with full intention of crashing back down on the much smaller target.

PuppetMan smirked as his opponent charged. His opponent was making the same mistake as all the others, ignoring the puppet and going for the puppeteer.
With a twitch of his fingers, the serpent puppet rose higher into the air, pulling PuppetMan along with it! And just in the nick of time too, seeing as less than a second later his foe's claws rended the spot PuppetMan previously stood. That was too close, he thought to himself. "You might want to look behind you," he shouted down teasingly. From within the zoanoroid's shadow emerged a large black halberd, as tall as the navi himself. In an instant, the polearm swung at the zoanoroid.
Looking at his left paw, PuppetMan's smirk mutated into a sinister glee.

"Oof!" Nightshade barely had time to turn around and cross his claws above his head before getting split into two even halves. Pinned down on the ground and struggling to overpower the axe he noticed the enemy and his puppet smirking.
"Uh. Fighting dirty are we? I kinda expected it given your name. But if this is all...you've got...it's not goonne ba good enough to take me down!"
Tapping his feet paw on the ground, Nightshade channeled his elemental prowess into flooding the area in a thick coal of clean water. It looked like he could stand and move around it no problem. In a swift motion, he submerged, leaving the attacking projection to fall into the water itself before hopping back up somewher else. "Hmpf. I need to do something about casting shadows..."

"You've got some cool tricks of your own," PuppetMan replied in earnest before noticing his foe disappear under water. "That said, I think I should take some of that energy and use it for myself!"
From PuppetMan's left paw came a shower of glowing pink strings, flying out in all directions. If he wasn't going to know where his opponent was, he'd just cover a wider area.

Taking notice of the strange things the opponent was trying to trap him in, Nightshade quickly devised a counter strategy he hoped it would work. Quickly rubbing his metallic claws together, a few sparks would be sent in the air. With a sweep of his hand, the sparks ignited into a fiery display of fire and heat covering the entirety of the area around him. He would hope those strange wires would get easily incinerated by his attack.
"...Alright little guy. I'm getting real tired of your fumbling. Either you come at me now..."
The earth shook.
"...or I'll personally snap you in two like a twig in the next ten seconds."

Despite the flames dancing about, the pink threads continued on their course. PuppetMan, meanwhile, was a bit worried when the flames began their dance, but a quick barrier was all he needed to block them.
PuppetMan couldn't notice the ground shaking while in the air until the strings that missed Nightshade struck the panels below. "Why would I come down if you're going to snap me in half?!" he shouted back, a mix of sarcasm as well as a bit of fear in his reply.

The sea of swirling flames intensified, the water no turning into a thick fog that would soon cloud the sky. The earth kept on rumbling, moving, shaking. Clouds gathering above blocked out the sun, castung the entire battlefield intoa uneasy penumbra. The fiery hell conjured by the zoanoroid raised up further, taking on a different color. From the valiant red to an unsettling purple. It exploded outwards, scorcing the dirt and vitrifying the sands. It crackled with power, something uncommon. Somthing that couldn't be controlled. Unbridled fury fueled by its thirst for destruction. A roar to pierce the heavens was what put the fire at rest, as in the midst of the scorched, burned land a single speck of color in the sea of black rose up to full height. It looked up. It looked on the only remaining living presence that needed eradication. It was weak, very weak. But it had awaken. It was alive. It was free.A flick of its tail...then it spoke. "Enough games."

A surge of energy flowed into PuppetMan from the strings. At first the energy was just like any other navi. Then, it ramped up in power, in force, and in ferocity.
PuppetMan's instincts began screaming at him; the tables had turned against him, if they were ever with him to begin with. "Oh no," he shivered, "a zoanoroid. It's been a long time since I saw one of these. Please, please don't be as strong as the original ones..."
Lowering himself back down, PuppetMan decided to make sure that he was fully prepared to fight. From his left hand sprung more strings, which he quickly spun around himself. Just as the strings seemed to fully cover the tiny navi, they merged together into a glowing pink aura. "You want no more games," he shouted across, the twangs of terror and fear palpable in the air, "then I'll throw everything I have at you!"
As he let strings descend into his shadow once again, PuppetMan pulled his other Puppet close; he needed to be able to get out of there if things turned even more south. With a serpent descending from above, another puppet began to rise from below; a black beast, claws, fangs, and horns glowing red hot, pulled itself from the shadows one limb at a time. Jingling chains were bound to the limbs and neck, some connected to multiple points, while others simply hung loose. Sprouting from the umbral beast's head, neck, and back flowed a long mane, also glowing a fiery red. Once fully emerged, its eyes glowed a burning orange, and its maw was locked into a toothy grin.
While PuppetMan put on this showy summoning, another ax forged of Nightshade's own shadows emerged and swung at him from behind.
