Hollow is simplistic, but he is incredibly cunning. He knows the intricacies of society and how people and individuals throughout history respond, and, knowing how history has shaped itself up to this point, he has a wide range of knowledge on what factors can push it this way and that. A tactician first and final, Hollow follows the single most efficient and logical way to any decided course of action, and, without any remorse or strong emotional attachments to anything currently existing other than himself, is willing to destroy anything that stands in his way.
While adept on the battlefield, Hollow's historical expertise and level head makes him equally efficient as a spokesperson, as he does not speak out of turn and has no intense beliefs to speak on for himself. He knows how to get what he wants, and is willing to destroy whatever gets in the way of what he desires - the issue for him is finding a purpose to fight and stand up for.

Nearly five centuries ago, Dr. Orihime Vega worked alongside her lover and lab assistant Altair to study and analyze archaic styles of fighting and resource acquisition, and how these unique ideas could be applied to an incredibly resourceful and elusive NetNavi. Within the breadth of their studies, Altair fell incredibly ill, and later died. Dr. Vega flipped her research around, and instead began studying ways to completely replicate human life - memories, appearance, past emotions, experiences and all - into a NetNavi. Lost in her sorrow, she gave up when it appeared impossible, but, used her research to build a NetNavi that looked exactly like her late lover. Without his emotions, memories or feelings for her, Altair simply wasn't Altair, and, so, she gave him a new name, a new wardrobe, and a new purpose. Hollow would carry on with the work of their research as the incredibly resourceful, incredibly elusive Navi that they had studied ancient cultures to find and create, and he would carry within them all of their work. For a time, Vega continued to use Hollow as her NetNavi, and she as his NetOp. He was helplessly loyal to her, as her royal voice was all that he knew how to listen to. Yet, as her time passed, and he remained a program, Hollow shed not a single tear as Vega left the world.
Without her curt commands and own purpose to drive him, the utterly empty NetNavi struck out to find his own purpose in the world. She had used him to further gather information on ancient and powerful civilizations, studying the Greeks, Romans, Mayans and many others in an attempt to find power and new heights for his skills and abilities, and, with each excapade, he studied as she directed him to. Without her direction, he simply followed what seemed appropriate, and continued on with the research of advanced, ancient cultures to emulate into his style and mindset, taking years and years at a time under his wing to his studies. Without any care for what may stand in his way, Hollow broke into museum archives and databases full of information in search of what he desired, much like he had done alongside Lady Vega long ago.
For an incredibly archaic Navi in a world centuries ahead of his creation, Hollow's adaptability and aptitude on the field of battle - when he happened to be challenged - was worth the attention of many others to study him. At this point, he was searching not for more ways to expand his fighting style and grow, but how he could use his resourceful knowledge for a new purpose aside from simply getting stronger. Before, his only purpose was to serve Lady Vega's wishes. When that purpose was no longer of concern, he devoted himself to her last concerns, and strove to understand ancient civilizations to strengthen his ability on the battlefield. Now, at the height of his studies, he needed a new purpose; an idea to finally call his own.
It was sometime within the few hundred years of his own intense studies that he was extensively studied for the purpose of crafting another Navi, by the name of Xion. Xion possesses many of his own abilities and skills, and was partially derived from his extensive combat knowledge from archaic worlds. Many crimes Xion has committed using Hollow's name, and, with each crime, more adversity came to Hollow's threshold. He had what it took to drive them back, only increasing his infamy within the public image. Without even meaning to, Xion had given him a purpose - and a choice, at that. He could either strive to clear his name from Xion's darkness, or allow for Xion to continue and simply turn to villainy himself.
As the centuries passed, Hollow became a hermit of the net, traveling too and fro in search of answers for questions he had never asked himself before, such as what his true purpose was or how to even be anything other than the empty shell of power that he was. While reports would say Hollow has made way in history, those are likely just events of Xion's doing under his name, as Hollow was widely uninterested in the events as of late. Given his initial disposition, he wishes only to find a cause with which he finds worthy of his effort in supporting.
