"Objection!" Shane half shouted, crossing his arms and closing his eyes in thought for a moment. That name. He knew it couldn't be a coincidence.
"Sir L. Bearach Cambion. Born from a centuries-old crime family situated in rural Netopia, with their fingers in weapons smuggling and human trafficking for over six hundred years over the span of numerous dynasties. Finally brought to justice for the actions of the latest generation in 200X, the small city built around their ancestral estate was raided by a joint operation led by half a dozen countries wronged by the Cambion Clan's heinous actions." He recited, reading from the files on his ADLink. The inspector then crossed his arms. "We know more than you can imagine, Miss Garadi. Much more than you yourself can imagine. What he did was everything but normal booze smuggling."
He stood up and pointed at a warrant he gave her not long ago.
"The reason I am here is this: Nightshade himself has been attacked by your "Master unit" with clear intention to cause deletion. Now, we examined the fight from 30 different angles, and tbe results were intriguing to say the least. But I am sure Thrash didn tell you that...or should I call her Daemon?"
He knew it. He had suspected something was off when his navi told him about the attack he suffered. Examining the scene, many clues pointed to something relatable of the Daemon project. Still, nothing conclusive. He couldn't prove Thrash's origin and link to the case up until now. Even tracking her down to minerva's Bat did not bring up anything that could confirm bis fears. Nina herself stated that the thing was not a navi. The reason why Thrash was incredibly powerful. The reason why it attacked Nightshade without warning and toyed with him.
Thrash is a weapon. A few centuries old weapon. The only thing he couldn't understand yet was its behaviour and the chip it gave Nightshade. A façade do hide its origin? Nightshade could be in danger. What the navi thought was Thrash's strange way to teach him how to fight may very well be a trap.
He pointed his finger at her. "Miss Garadi. We are suspecting you to be in possession of a weapon of mass destruction linked with your old man's case. We also believe that your lack of control over it would greately endanger innocent lives. As proven, it can leave and attack others on its own.
I would like you to convince me that you know nothing about it, because right now when I am looking at you I am reading a three digit number beginning with a 2... and it's raising each few seconds." ________________________________________
Nightshade was frozen in shock. The entire thing. Thrash was the entire thing. What it made him become as white as the undersuit he was wearing was the little more information he had access to while on duty. A small thing called Threat Level.
"Six..s-six hundr-red..." he stuttered, taking a step back in fear. "Six hundred...and eight-t-ty..."
He was trapped. He tripped and fell backwards, not even registering what she said. He tried to scramble back on his feet. The situation only got worse when Shane accessed the Daemon Project files. Memories of their first encounter flashed in his head. He thought Thrash was going to attack again because of what happened last time. Or maybe it wanted revenge? Or maybe she wanted his deletion? What if she didn't hold back?
Still, he was unable to move.

"Must you make such a scene, Detective? Sit down before you embarrass yourself any further."
If Shane was hoping to intimidate anyone with that display, he's in for a disappointing surprise. Nina doesn't even rise from her seat - instead, she uncorks the bottle on the desk and begins pouring a glass for herself. Crystal clear, bubbling as it flows, and Shane can smell the alcohol from the other side of the desk.
"Everything you say certainly sounds like it could be true - after all, Thrash is just as old as the Vineyard and its systems, so it would make sense that she was my ancestor's creation as well. And given what he did for a living aside from running this company... well, suddenly the Master Unit's battle prowess makes a lot of sense. I think that calling Thrash a 'weapon' is a bit uncalled for - and so is calling into question my control over her. In fact, it sounds to me like you are threatening the reputation and well-being of the centerpiece of my company."
Nina proceeds to down her entire glass in one shot, whipping her hair in an arc as she tilts her head back, the alcohol visibly hitting her like a gunshot. She then glares straight back at Shane, a defiant scowl on her face.
"Is that what you've come here to do, Detective? To dig up my family's centuries-old history in order to slander my employee and property over a NetBattle with my little sister?"
<...Six hundred, hm? I've clearly improved since my prime, the Officials only rated me at three-hundred-and-fifty back in the day. I'm surprised that they still use that system to classify threats...>
If nothing else, the Daemon seems to be familiar with the technology used by the International Police. And yet, Nightshade is still alive. He is still alive now, just like he was after their last two encounters. Even now, Thrash is not regarding the Navi with any sort of seriousness - this whole time, the creature has been playing with him, and still is.
<What does that number mean, anyway? If you were to measure how 'dangerous' I can be based on that silly little number... well, what makes six hundred so much worse than two hundred? Does it mean that you wouldn't fight me if I decided to hurt somebody? Would you just give up and run away, without looking back?>

"I wouldn't make snappy remarks to a man with the power to arrest you at any given time. Also, this arguement is not about a NetBattle at all. Thrash attacked my navi in a PROTECTED area. An area where navi's offensive capabilities are disabled and all the navis are scanned and registered immediately upon connection. The only thing that saved my partner's life back then was the override command ERPD navis possess and autoruns in danger situations. I think the matter is more serious than a what you propose. I am not the type that wastes time. Do you know what we found on the security logs? Nothing. It was like Nightshade had been fighting a ghost. Thrash is completely immune to all security scan and tracking, as well as all the security programs that disable weapons. No navi can do that. That is enough reason for me to think she is more than a mere program and definetly not a normal navi. She can come and go as she pleases. Completely invisible to all but the naked eye."
_____________________________________
Nightshade eyes turned seirous. "...Don't you even dare..." he stated slowly calming down. "I saw what you can do...and I won't let you do anything against innocent navis." He slowly walked closer. "I don't care if I am not strong enough. I don't care if I am some kind of joke to you. But if you want to hurt innocent navis, if you want to kill them..."
He stopped right in her face, staring right at her mask. "You'll have do do it over my. Dead. Body."
Something had clicked inside Nightshade. Something that went over his fears or will. His sense of duty. He was part of the ERPD. He swore to serve and protect the peace. If that meant dying for the cause, so be it. He would never ever live with the guilt of not doing anything he could do to help.

"...Funny - so, why isn't that the story that you told to my sister the other day? For somebody whose life was at risk, your Navi didn't so much as hesitate to join her in a game at the Arcade that night. And he survived THAT too, clearly. If my Master Unit is so dangerous, why didn't you take the time to do something about it then, when you didn't have to go through me to do it?"
Nina is clearly just about done being civil. She casually tosses aside the wine glass - which shatters inside the small recycling bin it falls into - and takes a long draw straight from the bottle. By the time Shane starts talking again, she is probably still drinking.
And just as before, the sinister glow of all seven cores are focused on Nightshade. If they really are the Daemon's eyes, then could the mask even be considered the creature's real face? Maybe it wears the thing just so other Navis have something to talk to?
<Sigh... boy, if I had any intention of harming anyone, your Operator would be investigating a trail of dead bodies. It is what I was built for, after all.>
Well, so much for beating around the bush - clearly, Thrash has heard enough of the conversation outside to know what is going on, likely through the very monitoring systems that Nightshade has asked for access to. One has to wonder just how much control the Daemon has over the facility... or what kind of damage it could do to the real world through those systems if given a reason.
<But sometimes, the world has different plans than your maker. I wonder what your creator would think, seeing you standing here before me right now. You certainly were not born simply to lay your life on the line for somebody else's needs - no, you are too well-built to be a disposable soldier. And yet here you stand, with such bravery and conviction... can you imagine just how powerful you could be if you let this side of yourself come out more often?>

Shane was about to reply once again when his ADlink began beeping. Not a good sign. He panicked and grabbed his PeT. He forgot Nightshade was still there and that Thrash was basically the entire mainframe. "Nightshade, NIGHTSHADE!" He desperatly called.
*Warning: A+ Threat detected. Warning. A+ Threat detected. Override enabled. Warning: A+ Threat detected...* __________________________________________
Nightshade's eyes turned golden, autolocking onto Thrash. "Why don't you see for yourself then? Let's play a game, demon. It's called 'I'LL SNAP YOU IN TWO! BATTLE OVERRIDE, EXECUTE!"
_______________________________________
"SHADE, NO!" Shane was literally panicking now. He drew his revolver and aimed at Nina. The trigger unlocked instantly due to Nightshade's override. "Call her back. NOW!" He spatted, cocking the hammer back. "Stop her now or I will shoot."

Nina Garadi's immediate response to such a threat is a simple one - she casually leans back in her reclining chair, bottle still in hand, and downs the remainder of it. The next words out of her mouth are not words at all - instead, they are an offensively loud, decidedly unladylike belch lasting the span of sixteen seconds. And then...
"...No. No, I think you need a lesson after these ridiculous accusations of yours. Thrash is not dangerous, and she is absolutely loyal to me - these are points that you asked to be proven, and I will prove them right now. As soon as your Navi is beaten within an inch of its life, I will give Thrash the command to stop, and she will do so without hesitation, sparing his life and demonstrating both of those points for you. If you shoot, however... well, there's not going to be anyone to give that order."
And then, a voice suddenly crackles forth from the PET on the table...
<I would advise against intervening, Officer. Your friend here has discovered his courage, and deserves the opportunity to explore what he is capable of. He will return to you without a scratch afterwards - you have my word.>

Shane grunted and holstered his gun. "dangnit Nightshade. You are going to get me in trouble..." ______________________________
Nightshade circled Thrash like a hunter stalks his prey. "What's wrong, demon? I thought you wanted to kill me. Well, if you aren't going to do a thing, I'll show you what I can do!"
He darted at the thing before him way faster than before. Apparently, being out of his mind and switching it into ruthless aggression mode had done wonders on his speed. He charged with a loud roar and struck Thrahs as hard as he could with his claws, trying to pierce though the armor. Mostly unsuccessful, he put some ground between him and the Daemon before charging up various attacks and getting ready to dodge his foes's counter.

Defense Phase
Though Nightshade's natural speed and agility gives him the first strike in this sudden clash, his adversary's slippery nature and sheer overbearing presence are making it hard to mount an offensive. Every step that he takes, Thrash matches it by advancing upon him like a viper - every time he takes aim, the creature suddenly creeps around him effortlessly, forcing him to perform an about-face just to not be flanked or outmaneuvered. In the end, he manages to keep his wits and footing about him to the point of delivering a single blow...
Is that all?

Thrash's strike is as sudden as it is unexpected - all of the beast's posturing and maneuvering up to this point, and the attack comes not from the front, the side, or even behind... rather, Thrash's serpentine tail suddenly comes up from BELOW! Nightshade grunted as his opponent squirmed around him, making it really difficult to land even one hit.. He was forced on the defensive, unable to slip away from the Daemon. His speed helped him, however, allowing him to only be grazed by Thrash's attacks. He was getting angrier and angrier. "...stop mocking me..." he growled. The more he got eraged, the more his attacks turned vicious and bent on destruction. "STOP MOCKING ME!!!"
Defense Phase:
Initiative Sigma activates. damage is reduced by 20% Nightshade takes 416 damage.
HitPoints: 884/1300
Strangely though, the smaller cuts healed up instantly. Nightshade never had any kind of regeneration skill. The curious thing was that this rejuvenation happened in a similar fashion as to Thrash's own. Shane was calling up HQ and requesting that someone higher up revoked Nightshade authorization so that he could shut this fight down before his partner got deleted or got both of them in trouble.
The small warrior eye's turned a vibrant yellow as he locked onto his target. He would make sure his next attack would it. He would teach that thing a lesson. He was tired of it playing around with him as she pleased.
Setup Phase:
Nighthshade regens 100. Nightshade activates Predator Mark Lv2. One attack is aimed and gets "undodgeable" AutoCharge Alpha Charges Dark Hole.
HitPoints: 984/1300
"Do you have any idea...how bad I fell every day?" He barked, slowly circling around her. "I am forced to look at innocents get hurt without having the power to do anything. I am forced to hear the other navis talk how bad of a detective I am because I cannot stand up to myself. I am forced to look at anyone else play around with me like I am worthless. Well not anymore. I'm done with it. And you...you want get serious?" The last few words stuttered out of his mouth full with venom. "ll make sure I'll seriously have you broken in pieces when I am through with you..."
He was on the brink of snapping. If Thrash pushed him any more, he would completely lose it.

Turn 2 - Thrash
Defense Phase
Nightshade's aim is true this time, his claws now empowered by an invigorating fury deep within his... soul? Now THAT'S a rarity for a Navi, especially one without a Dark taint. His blow strikes the beast clean across its (likely false) face, tearing off the metal mask and exposing the lone red core underneath...
Then show me! If you continue to hold yourself back, then everyone who relies on you will suffer for it! Prove to me that the spark of promise I saw in you wasn't just a trick of the light!

The Daemon's armor suddenly begins to vent steam with a loud hiss... and then, Nightshade's entire world is a shadowy pink haze as chilling, toxic-smelling fog envelops the area immediately around Thrash. Whether he is able to resist or evade the touch of the crystallizing gas, his vision is now obscured by clouds of rolling mist... from this cover, the beast's approach is both swift and silent, as blades of jagged glass lash out from all sides to tear Nightshade apart!

"aaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGH!" Nightshade roared and an explosion of black and purple followed, raising up in the digital sky. The shockwave was enough to instantly blow away all the mist Thrash had created. Standing right in the middle of it all, Nightshade barely raised his head, showing two pulsing deep red eyes focusing onto Thrash. He was...different. Wildly different.
The undersuit it wore had changed to a deep nebula purple, something that you would commonly see on any Darkloid. The diamond shaped gems on his knees and forearms had changed too: they were now round, smooth and oval. Their uncanny resembleance to Thrash's Cores made Shane panic even more and begin pleading onto his microphone for someone to speed up the revoking procedures.
The cape was gone, replaced by deep black armor and an armored reptilian tail. It arched left and right slowly, twitching with life from time to time. All the highlights on the suit had turned to a vibrant red and connected to the gem-cores. Nightshade's helmet had changed too. It was a full on metal mask, just like the one worn by his opponent.
The most unsettling details of his new form were the claws on his forearms. They had changed into some sort of glassy-crystal material while the smooth edges had turned into serrated ones. No longer they would cut. They would rip and tear.
Nightshade purposely stepped onto the fallen mask, shattering it and stepping on with great sadistic pleasure. He was completely silent. The only thing that could be felt was the insane amount of energy seeping from him. He slowly raised from his hunched, aggressive position upright. The death stare he shot at Thrash was just as brutal as what she could do.
He blocked her swings with no effort. The one he couldn't block, he dodged. His strength was tripled. His speed was five times his original one. Nightshade was consumed by bloodlust and his wrath. It was worse than going berserk. It was worse than being a monster. He was no monster.
He was a Daemon.
Defense Phase:
Nightshade blocks Crystalysis with Blink. +1AS Nightshade dodges Crystal Cleavers with Night Walk. +1AS Nightshade dodges Crystal Cleavers with Night Walk. +1AS Nightshade dodges Crystal Cleavers with Night Walk. +1AS Nightshade dodges Crystal Cleavers with Night Walk. +1AS
Once again, his body regenerated as soon as he sunk his claws into his target. This time though, the effect was much more evident. He looked like he didn't even suffer a single hit. Power surged though his body, lighting up the gem-cores. The ground beneath him cracked under the immense pressure given off by his chaotic aura.
Setup Phase:
Nightshade regens 100 Nightshade is pushed to the limit! New power unlocked! Chaos Unison: ThrashSoul! Nightshade gains 1AS. Swift Strike hit the target. Nightshade gains 2AS. AutoCharge Alpha charges Dark Hole.
HitPoint: 1084/1300
Then, he moved. He was no longer bothered by Thrash's attempts at throwing him off, he would predict her every step and react in a matter of milliseconds. Thrash was given a powerful clawed kick to the chest, leaving three scratches in her armor and sending her away from him. When he raised his claw to deliver his first blow at the enemy, he was already in front of her.
At that precise moment, his desire to kill, mutilate, brutalize and utterly destroy everything surpassed Thrash's own, if for just as short as a second.
Battle Phase [11AS]:
Nightshade attacks Thrash with Zenith Slash for 160dmg. Nightshade attacks Thrash with Dark Hole for 240dmg. Nightshade attacks Thrash with Edge Shot for 160dmg. Turn 3 - Thrash
Defense Phase
OO-orf! More!
Thrash's pressuring has not been in vain after all - at last, the boy taps into his true strength, albeit in a most unexpected form! Perhaps Nightshade's change was affected by the Daemon's loose data following that last blow; perhaps his newfound shape is based upon what he envisions to be the epitome of power and strength. Whatever the case, that momentary flattery is quickly eclipsed by the Navi's ferocious demonstration of his true might! His restraints cast aside and thrown to the wind, he is now wild and feral, and it legitimately takes all the defensive mettle that Thrash can muster to weather the brutal assault, Nightshade's claws cutting through the screens of fog that the Daemon casts to stymie his attacks.

Daemon's Thirst resolves! Thrash takes 100 Damage for missing with all attacks!
The beast is forced back by the brutal offensive, forced down onto one knee. Despite her missing mask, Nightshade can feel Thrash's fierce determination in the air itself... as well as a hint of satisfied glee?
[Thrash HP = 90/1000]
< Ahaha... how does it feel, boy? Like you could take on the entire world, if they gave you a good reason to?>
By now, what little 'threat' existed in the material world has quickly extinguished - at some point during the fight, Nina appears to have slumped onto her desk face-first from sheer alcohol poisoning, and is now snoring loudly. The bottle has clattered to the floor harmlessly.

Nightshade slowly approached the Daemon. The last attack seemed to calm him down slightly. That or finally seeing the omnipotent Daemon on her knees. He was stronger. HE was stronger that Thrash. Now she would finally respect him! He...
His new form vanished away. He was suddenly drained of his energies, and It wasn't Shane's doing. Nightshade looked at his hands, they were trembling again. He felt lightheaded and began wobbling. "I'm not...a coward. I want to be strong as you..." He barely whispered before falling down onto Thrash and literally passing out in her arms.
Shane remained silent for a few minutes, observing the two. He dismissed his previous call telling the guy on the other side that he managed to defuse the situation." The inspector walked over to the passed out lady and grabbed her pet.
"Is that what you have been trying to draw out of him?" He asked, letting out a long sigh. "You weren't really trying to delete him. You just wanted to draw out his inner potential and break his limits. Right?".

<The two of you sure took your sweet time getting to this point.>
The Daemon sighs, setting its once-opponent down on the digitized tile, climbing back up atop the Master Unit's pedestal - she still has work to do, after all.
<Soul Power is a rare thing in digital beings. It's easy enough to artificially produce that power and inject it into oneself - what you usually get after that is a bottom-feeding Darkloid, so overwhelmed by it that they go mad and succumb to instincts that they aren't ready to control. Finding a source of Soul Power not tainted by overflowing negativity... that is not something that I could just ignore.>
Only a loose connection will be needed this time - no need to fully immerse into the Mainframe, at least not until the guests have left. Thrash perches atop her pedestal like a gargoyle looming over a castle wall, regal and vigilant.
<He must never let his spirit be cowed and shackled again. If not allowed to express that power, the effects that a build-up of Soul Power in his system could have may be quite disastrous. Or worse, someone else with the ability to sniff it out, someone far more malicious than myself, could try to take advantage of him.>

Shane nodded slowly. "Hmpf...of all the navis he could bond with, he chose you." He set down the Pet and jacked Nightshade out. "I would ask you to help him, but you've already expressed your opinion on that. As it stands now, I could wait for your master to wake up and arrest her for illegal detainment of weapons of mass destruction...in direct violation of code 34 comma 5bis regarding Battleroid related projects and their ban. However, we could both gain something from this. I know that your position as the master unit of this complex isn't exactly what you would like to do. But I also cannot allow you to just attack other navis using the fact that network security protocols cannot detect or affect you at all.
In short, you can teach Nighthsade a thing or two and help him control that power, he makes sure you have your battle spirit fed and fat while I put the word end on the Daemon project once and for all."
He stopped for a moment to recollect himself. "Basically, I am asking you the following question. How do you want to be known as, War Daemon or Thrash? Each side has its own ups and downs. You see, whatever you want to do or whatever your programming is, your master's legacy is long gone. You spent alot of time doing other people's bidding, probably wore countless masks with your shapeshifting ability to accomplish whatever mission you were created to do. So, for this time only try to think for yourself...who do you want to be? What do you want to do?"
He grabbed the papers and titied up the office a little. "Sorry for the mask and your armor, by the way. I'll have Nightshade give you replacement ones as well as a formal apology for attacking you. For now, think about it...Nightshade could use a "big sister" like you to lean on and grow into a more competent and confident fighter. He chose you, and deep down I know he wished you to choose him as well. From the moment I began following the "Elusive Navi" case, I knew he was trying to gain your approval. The reason...only he knows. But I'll respect your choice, whatever that may be."
With that, he turned around and closed the door to the office, leaving the establishment shortly after to go write some reports and explain Nightshade's sudden change in a beliavable way other than "He got pissed off by a century old net mafia murder weapon."
