Biting cold; this was the first thing that the two combatants would register as they met on the frozen northern slopes of Elbus Range. A harsh wind blew straight out of the frozen maw of the north and scoured the mountainside with driving snow so fine it seemed almost a mist. The evergreens that clung desperately for purchase swayed wildly to-and-fro as the onslaught of the winter storm continued to wash over them. In this part of the net winter rarely released its icy grip on the land and today stood as a testament to that truth.
Along a rocky trail that was barely visible except for the slightest of indents where other travellers had kicked aside the snow mere hours before, a figure cloaked in white struggled against the headwind. Even with the thickest lining he had imagined necessary and the fur lined hood drawn tightly to his cheeks, a scarf covering his nose and lower face, Ion still felt the bitter cold creep into his bones. Today was a wretched day for what they had planned and the weather showed no indication of changing anytime soon to accommodate the two combatants. Putting the dreary thoughts of driven snow out of his mind, Ion leaned further forward, pushing himself through the wind and keeping his eyes downcast to carefully watch the indents in the snow to ensure he didn’t misstep and end up in a deadly slide down the cliff-face.
It wasn’t long before the path widened and the land grew suddenly flatter; finally the place that he had been seeking was before him. Nestled within the Elbus Range there were numerous frozen plateaus and this was the one that they had designated beforehand. The snow pressed up against his calves, almost two feet deep, doubtlessly deeper in some spots, and the entire plateau was ringed with a fringe of spruce and pine trees. As soon as he drew close to the fringe of trees, the wind seemed to fade to nothing and only the skiffs of snow kicked up near the center of the plateau and the endless creak of frozen wood protesting its swaying betrayed the intensity of the storm that enveloped the area. Stopping to catch his breath and prepare his body for battle, Ion glanced once around the plateau to see if Fulgur Anima had yet arrived…

A figure, wearing multiple cloaks, winces against the assaulting force of the viscous cold. The storm seemed to tear up the ground itself as it sent snow flying upwards and around, wind grabbing his cloaks and sending them jerking to and fro.Beneath the twisting garments, you could spot dark grey, sleek looking armor. A face, tightly armored against the cold with a thick hood and scarf, with only a unique pair of eyes visible, examined the area, and he bites his lip nervously. This storm....Fulgur hoped his opponent would be safe. The young navi stumbles on the narrow path, and freezes in place. 'DONTWANNAFALLDONTWANNAFALLDONTWANNAFALL' After a bit, realizing he wouldn't slip, Fulgur sighs, gently putting his foot down and continuing on more carefully.Eventually reaching the plateau, he smiles as the wind quiets down, waving hello to the form before him."H-hello,Mr. Ion! I'm glad y-you got here safely!!"

INTRO 2 As he was giving his bracer’s a once-over, not daring to yet bring them out into the cold, he checked them by feel alone, every contour as familiar to him as his own reflection. Nothing seemed to be out of order as the lone figure crested the trail and made his way down to the pre-arranged plateau. Smiling beneath his own scarf, the only indication being the light dancing within his eyes and a small crinkle at their corners. Raising his own hand to greet Fulgur, Ion couldn’t help but feel a flush of excitement course through his limbs as the thought of testing his mettle against another pressed to the forefront of his mind. Calling back to the armoured fellow, Ion greeted him as warmly as the temperature would allow, ”Hi Fulgur Anima! We certainly didn’t choose an easy place for this, did we?” The laughter in his voice carrying across the calmer air, broken by the evergreen’s, he gave his body a quick shake to dislodge any snow that had accumulated on him during their journey.
Approaching the young navi, Ion drew one hand from beneath his cloak and held it up. His entire posture was non-threatening and calm as the light breeze around them played with his cloak, billowing it around his ankles. From his fingertips a soft light began to emerge before growing into intensity and reforming into a baseball sized fireball. Its surface alive and roiling with heat, the ruddy glow it cast over both Ion and Fulgur seemed to bring out the rosy hues in what little skin was exposed of their faces. ”We may as well be warm before it begins. We’ll get started once we shake off the icicles from our journey.”
Holding the ball of molten flame at arm’s length away, the heat radiated not much further than a meter away before the winter air sapped it of all warmth. Savouring the simple pleasure of the warmth after such a trying journey to arrive here, Ion couldn’t help but feel the electric tingle of excitement for the coming battle tease his muscles. ”So no holding back, promise? Winner has to drag the loser back to civilization afterwards.” The joking tone in his voice betraying the fact that he had his doubts that either would have the energy for the trek back afterwards.

Ful smiles, shaking his head as Ion returns the greeting and remarking that this probably wasn't the best place."Y-yes...but at least its out of t-the way..." As the other navi approaches, he watches curiously, pulling down his hood and letting the wind play with white and blue hair. Then, Ion holds out a hand. Knowing Ion wouldn't harm him, well, at least not till they were both ready, Ful doesn't bother being defensive. And then a minute and fireball later, he's sighing in relief, pulling down the scarf in order to let the fires warmth reach the rest of his face. The young navi nods as his opponent remarks that they may as well be warm."Y-yes....thank you, sir.." His breath comes out in small puffs of white mist, only to fade under the heat of the fireball. His foot begins tapping, and Ful finds himself becoming excited at the thought of testing himself against his elder.Ion says not to hold back, and that the winner would drag the other back to civilization. Ful nods, his headband unfolding into a full, or at least near full helmet. The dark, glass like substance covering his blue eye reflects the light of the fire, making it appear for a brief minute that the navi had two gold eyes. His mouth curling up into a small smile, Ful walks away a short distance and crouches, his unique buster forming and a blade of pure, concentrated lightning shooting out it. Holding the curved sword before him, the young navi looks at Ion." Ready when you are, sir!"

BATTLE 1 Watching intently as Fulgur walked a few steps in the drifted snow before turning and announcing that he was prepared, his words only further punctuated with the wicked crackle of his lightning blade. Interestingly enough, Fulgur did not stutter when battle lay before him...Ion's reply seemed to come almost as an afterthought as his focus sharpened to prepare for the battle before him, ”Alright, here I come…”
Drawing the molten orb closer to his body, Ion raised his other hand above it before lightly pinching a tip into the orb and pulling. Drawing the orb long and longer, its width shrinking until finally the form of a jian became apparent, Ion cooled one molten end to use as a rough hilt. Right hand snatching the blade from mid-air, he swung it twice through the air to test its stability. Each cut was accompanied by the hungry snarl of flames stoked in fresh air, greedily it consumed his energy to maintain the immense heat. A slight flicker of light from Ion’s left hand was all the possible warning Fulgur would receive before his attack commenced…
Ion reeled back as though throwing a baseball and indeed that is what it appeared to be; a solid ball of energy clasped tightly in his left hand he threw it hard in Fulgur’s direction. In mid-air the ball of energy broke apart, separating into smaller pellets that peppered the ground upwind of Fulgur. Nothing took aim at Fulgur but instead the ground, which happened to be ripe with light snow. Kicking up all the snow upwind, it immediately created a blinding flurry of snow which Ion was ready to take advantage of. Immediately after he had thrown the ball of energy, Ion sprinted to close the distance between Fulgur and himself. Reaching Fulgur just as the snow was kicked up, enshrouding the both of them in a thick flurry that allowed Ion to blend into near invisibility for mere moments, Ion tapped the defensively poised Lightning Kopis with his own Flame Jian before sidestepping Fulgur and running the blade along his shoulder. The tap was meant as a simple disorienting maneuver, resistance against a defensive blade meant there was often something to cut there, even though in this case there was not.
Now from a position behind Fulgur, Ion lashed out with three quick strokes, two criss-crossing the navi’s back and another slicing from shoulder to shoulder. With deadly grace each slash was aimed not at rending but rather at parting. The strokes were deep enough that if they landed, Fulgur would no doubt feel the intensity of the flame through his armour, but that was not their ultimate intention; Ion intended to slice and burn Fulgur’s winter clothing to expose the grey armour beneath. Not only would this increase his visibility in this field but the extreme cold of the Elbus Range would only serve to aid Ion in whittling the navi down.
As quickly as the flash of snow had blinded the two of them, it passed and with its passing Ion leapt back to a safe distance behind Fulgur Anima. His white cloak rippling against his thin frame in the increasingly intense wind, Ion assumed a defensive position not so different than Fulgur’s had been moments before and let his hood fall away from his head. Exposing his ears and widening his field of view, many would find amusement in the fact that beneath the fur-lined hood Ion had been wearing a white toque, he obviously was not a fan of this biting cold...

Fulgur nods, then blinks as Ion forms a sword from flame, his eyes widening."Cool....." He sees a flicker from the other navis hand, and tenses, only for it to be too late. The young navi braces himself as the ball splits into a bunch of pellets, but tilts his head as they slam into the ground."Huh?" Then, his visible eye widens as snow is kicked up, blinding him in a flurry. Crud!! So that's what he had planned!!Fulgur bpeers close, but the white clad navi blended in well with the snow. Feeling a tap on his blade, Ful grins, unleashing a downward slash. As the blade carved its way through the air, the hissing of the energetic blade created a sound like a wolf's growl. Fitting, one could suppose. But, nothing was there. He blinks, and then feels a line of warmth across his shoulder. Reacting, he stabs to the side, only to stagger slightly as he feels fire alight on his back. This guy was quick!! As he turns, the heavy cloak he was wearing tore apart, falling to the ground with a hiss as the heated garment met snow. His standard red cloak, attached to his shoulder armor, was tattered as well, and flared out like wings before the ragged remnants settled down. Exposed to the menacing cold, the young navi shivers, chattering slightly."S-s-sneaky!!!" Ful looks at Ion, blinking at the toque. He raises his free hand to his mouth, and chuckles."S-s-sorry!! Y-you just look a l-l-little funny..." The boy focuses, and rushes, unleashing a intense combo. First he slides, slicing at Ions knees, then straightens, stomping at his opponent's feet before clashing his sword against the fiery Jian, locking it while he rears back and swings at Ions face with a whistling hook.

BATTLE 2 The sound of laughter in the midst of battle was surprising enough that Ion blinked, drawn out of his focus for a moment as he glanced up to look at the fringe of his toque and the source of Fulgur’s amusement. It was in this moment that Fulgur made his move and it was a smart one at that. The snow kicking up around Fulgur as he slid towards Ion, the faint crackle of electricity was the prelude to the initial attack. Eyes hardening again as they re-focused, Ion knew that he would have no opportunity to dodge this, that time had already passed and he would be playing catch-up for the rest of the combo.
Strangely enough the slash to Ion’s legs resounded with a sharp clank. Beneath Ion’s cloak two pieces of junk data had managed to decompress in time to protect Ion’s knees from a crippling blow, but they had not completely detached from the bug trails in his body before the impact was made. This sent a surge of electricity through his legs, wincing as the muscle spasms forced him to break his defensive stance and step back erratically, Ion was lucky enough to avoid the foot stomp but in terrible shape to avoid what came next. Barely catching the lightning kopis with his flame jian, he was already off-balance by the time Fulgur locked swords with him and this showed as Fulgur landed a brutally solid hook to his face. Head careening to the side as he followed the momentum into a sideways tuck, Ion released the force against the kopis, allowing it freedom to descend where he had been moments before.
Rolling in the snow once before coming to a stop, Ion was on his feet as quickly as the blow had come. Not hesitating in his counter-attack despite his ears ringing and vision blurring erratically, Ion immediately threw the molten jian towards Fulgur’s head. In mid-air the stabilized blade began to lose its sturdiness and by the time it reached Fulgur it more resembled a thick rope of flames. Hoping that it would wrap itself around Fulgur’s helmet and scorch the visor, he didn’t much care if it stuck to anywhere else on Fulgur either, as long as it served as the distraction he needed. Casting one hand out sharply, a crack could be heard resounding through the forest as an evergreen crumbled to the ground, the wood being parasitically repurposed for Ion’s needs. Three wooden lances with ice imbued tips shot forward from the broken tree as though magnetically drawn to Ion’s outstretched hand. His vision cleared up as the ringing in his ears began to subside, the blow still throbbing in his head. As soon as the first reached his hand, he threw it forward aiming for Fulgur’s shoulder, the second met the same fate as he javelined it towards Fulgur’s midsection. The third smacked firmly into his hand and it was that one that he would use to continue the assault on his opponent. With the length of the polearm, Ion closed the short distance between them quickly and stabbed five times at Fulgur, once for each knee, one for the neck, another for an exposed elbow joint and once more aimed at the hip. It was obvious from their hasty construction that they would hardly pierce Fulgur Anima’s armour unless thrown with great force, so why bother trying to weakly stab at joints in the armor that would no doubt hold up? Simply because Ion was pumping energy into the ice element tip and each point of contact would further freeze the armour, making it lose flexibility, perhaps even immobilizing the joint all together. The unfortunate cost was that the fiery rope had flickered out as soon as he had begun stabbing at Fulgur, at this level he couldn’t afford to channel energy into more than tactic at a time.
Ion had taken the protection of warmth and advantage of camouflage from Fulgur Anima, now he would try to steal his vision and immobilize the young navi…

Fulgur blinks, hearing a clank. Huh? Since when were Ion's legs armored? He shrugs as he finishes the combo, fist pumping slightly as the kid sends his opponent staggering away into a tuck.Of course, this moment of self congrats is interrupted as a molten rope wraps itself around his helmet. Ful blinks, staggering, and grabs at the fiery menace, trying to rip it off. Though it missed his unarmored eye, the light coming off it was enough to blind him.He tilts, hearing a sharp crack, followed up by a rumble of something heavy falling. The young navi finally succeeds in ripping the flame rope off him, leaving a charred line on his helmet that, connected to his eye visor, made it look like he was wearing a eye patch. Fulgur blinks as Ion tosses a couple of icey wood javelins at him. He snaps a arm up, a Spartan shield of pure energy forming on it. The boy crouches, bracing himself, as the projectiles slam into his protective barrier. As it breaks apart,Anima stands back up, only to get stabbed a few times with a third javelin. He grunts, white mist puffing out of his mouth, and staggers back. The navi attempts to walk toward, and blinks as his limbs refuse to move. The places he had been jabbed...They were frozen over! Ful snorts." C-c-clever!!" He fires several Yips at Ion, hoping the small lightning pellets would ward his opponent off. Then, Anima sends lightning crackling through his buster, twitching as he holds it to each frozen joint. It didn't hurt....but it sure felt weird....Dropping those thoughts, the kid moves his limbs, nodding. Looked like he still had a little stiffness, but at least he could move...Ful rushes at Ion, slower than before but still raring to go, though the cold was starting to wear on him. He reforms his sword, swinging. It was far too short...but suddenly increased in length and size as Ful channeled lightning through his buster. The boy swings with the oversized blades a few more times, then blasts at Ion with a series of shots as the Wolf Buster's eyes glow red, shining out laser pointers to aid in aiming.

Battle 3
Watching intently as the Spartan shield took both blows before Fulgur discarded it and left himself open to Ion’s lance attack, Ion’s eyes never once wavered from his opponent even though they were slowly moving closer to the center of the plateau where the most intense wind tore through the area. Even he was beginning to feel a chill creep back into his bones as each movement momentarily opened his cloak and exposed him to the biting cold. Seeing Fulgur draw his buster and fire a small barrage at yips at Ion, he turns his body to drastically limit the surface area in danger before assuming a defensive stance. Feeling one impact his shoulder, another collide harmlessly against his cloak and one more strike him in the hip, each impact only slightly deadened by the sheer thickness of his outer-garment, Ion held his ground unyielding. Eyes reflecting the sharpness of pain as the Yips released their electric charge and strands of electricity curled jaggedly around the point of impact, numbing the area and causing a deep ache in the muscles beneath.
Sharply inhaling as he managed both the pain and the sight of Fulgur using electric bursts to shatter the icy joints of armor that he had moments ago frozen, ’Smart move.’ flashed through his mind. Exhaling slowly as his mind analyzed and his body waited in defensive anticipation of Fulgurs next attack, Ion was intrigued as the blade began to telegraph the swipe far before Fulgur was in position to strike. Four options: the most likely being that Fulgur was going to fire a crescent wave of electricity at him. Moving his wooden lance into position to defend against the incoming crescent wave, Ion noticed at the last moment that the blade was suddenly in reach! ”Tch.” a sharp grunt escaped his lips as he was forced to put even more strength into his defense. The incoming blade chopped deeply into the newly formed lance and for a moment it held, a moment long enough for Ion to twist desperately away and avoid the second half of the cut as his lance broke into two pieces. Luckily for him the more powerful lightning did not conduct along the length of the wooden shaft and his arms remained ready for the coming slashes that Fulgur dealt. Quickly snapping the two broken hafts together, he held both pieces, each hand at the end of the broken polearms. Reacting as quickly as Fulgur could, Ion was able to meet each slash halfway with the shattered remnants of his lance. Chips of wood flew as Fulgur’s assault continued and by the time he raised his buster to release the charged shots Ion was left with useless chunks of evergreen in his hand. As Fulgur raised his Wolf Buster, Ion dropped to one knee, one hand releasing the wooden junk and finding purchase deep in the snow to the ground below. Laser-like wolf’s eyes meeting his own as the buster stood level with Ion’s face, a crinkle around his eyes. Raising the cloak and arm in front of his face and tightening his shoulders Ion took the full brunt of the Wolf Buster’s shots. Feeling the shots tear through his cloak and the impacts pierce him, Ion is left heaving for breath as the electric imbued shots crackle lightning around his core. Pausing for the barest of moments as the electricity dispersed, Ion head snaps upwards and the movement of his body follows it. Driving upwards with all his might now that he was so close to Fulgur, he had in his hand a viciously sharp dagger. The thick blade reinforced for piercing armour and shattering blades, he intended to bury it in the left side of Fulgur’s ribs regardless of the armour impeding his progress. With one hand grasping the hilt and the other driving it forward with even more force, Ion hoped to finally pierce Fulgur’s armour and deal a damaging blow beyond the cosmetic that he had been doing so far.
In time with the impact of the Ion’s dagger, the ground behind Fulgur would let two small skiffs of snow kick up as two mirrored mystery data shot directly upwards into Fulgur’s back. The reason he had endured the Wolf Buster’s assault was so that he could have the time to summon both objects and have them travel beneath the snow behind Fulgur for this pincer-esque attack.
As soon as he had tackled Fulgur with the blade, Ion continued his momentum attempting to force the younger navi further toward the center of the plateau where the squall was strongest and the wind sucked the very idea of warmth away. If one was careful they might notice that for the first time in this battle Ion was no longer channelling his energy into anything…

Fulgur looks anxiously at Ion. Did he go too far with that buster combo? His eyes widen as the young navis opponent charges at him, holding a knife. Ful gets ready to dodge, but is suddenly hit from behind. He staggers forward, and meets with the dagger as it busts through his armor into his ribs. The young navi grunts, suppressing a scream. Sure, it wasn't lethal to a navi, especially one that could eventually heal itself over time, but that HURT! He's carried backwards, and notices himself getting colder and colder. Ful shivers, rearing back for another hook and kicking at Ions knee.

BATTLE 4 Ion could feel the chill penetrate the battle worn cloak that still enshrouded him, he could feel the violent shiver of Fulgur in his arms, he could not feel his arms and shoulders anymore though…as though they had become phantom limbs from the Wolf Buster he operated them but it was with a ragged and ethereal sense of possession. Thus when Fulgur found the opening to lend him another hard hook he barely noticed except for the sudden unbalancing impact. Coupled with the swift kick to Ion’s knee, Ion fell hard against the frozen ground. Sprawled outright and leaving a massive imprint in the snow where his body skidded to a halt, Fulgur for the first time would catch a glimpse of Ion’s face as he slowly rose from the snow, swaying in time to the rampant pounding rhythm of his own heart. His face and what little could be seen of his body bore the radiating burn marks of lightning tracing his body where-ever the Wolf Buster had impacted him. One jagged burn ran caustically from his collarbone and wrapped around the edge of his eye to his hairline, still steaming from the immersion in the snow moments earlier.
A tired smile flickered across his lips as he took in the form of Fulgur Anima before him, ”Please survive this…”
With eerily steady hands for all the electric attacks he had taken, Ion drew both hands before him, sinking down into a reinforced stance and eyes fading from a glacier blue to a deadened grey. His focus was absolute. Both hands reaching out as though forming a Kamehameha, the reason for his lack of channelling had become immediately apparent; he had been charging. His gauntlets lit up with white light as the air seemed to warp around the navi icon on each hand; that was the only warning before a massive beam of energy cut across the field. Blinding in its intensity, colours seemed to freeze and blur, dragging long stains along its length at chaotic intervals. With grey eyes tracking every movement of Fulgur Anima, Ion intended to ensure that Heaven’s Beam would find its mark and tear through the armour he had worked to expose.
Winter seeped into his limps, feeling at first glorious against his burnt skin before the danger of their winter wonderland sunk deeper. With his energy focused whole-heartedly on the beam and directing it to follow Fulgurs movements, Ion took little notice to the creeping ice that was beginning to freeze his exposed back.

Fulgur manages to drive his opponent back. Seeing Ion's face, the young navi gasps, beginning to feel guilty." I-I-I'm so sorry!!!I-I-I didn't think it would do that much d-d-damage...." He blinks, hearing the elder navi say please survive this. Ful gets it, his eyes widening as his opponent fires off a huge beam. The kid staggers back, attempting to move himself out of the way,but too late. As the beam envelopes him, Ful screams out."GYYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!" After a bit, the attack mercifully ends, and Hus form was revealed. His helmet was busted apart, and becomes a heavily damaged headband. The heavier armor was completely erased, and his metallic under suit was heavily ruptured, revealing pale, steaming skin in a variety of rips. Data leaked from the earlier cut. The young navi staggers, gasping in pain, and looks at Ion, determination shining in his eyes.He was all but beat, but the least he could do was let off one more attack...one...more...His buster raises, and let's off a Yip as he falls forward.

So:
Great job gentleman! I thoroughly enjoyed that battle! It was very well done on both sides! I would like to see some outro's myself, but that's just me. Anyway, on to the Judging!
Style: Ion: 27/30 Ful: 25/30
Overall, Very well done. The style was high class on both ends. Ion got a few more points here because his posts were a bit more fluent. Ful did have his share of glory here though too, including the bit with his not wanting to fall.
Articulation:
Ion: 18/20 Ful: 17/20
I love the descriptions! Thank you! It made it so easy to envision this battle in my head, it was almost like I was there watching the battle unfold while being able to read it! I docked a few points for a few places where I needed more descriptions or more precise visualizations.
Balance:
Ion 20/20 Ful 20/20
I thought it was very well balanced. For each play, there was a counter play. Each took substantial damage throughout the battle, and you both played flawlessly off of one another here.
Length:
Ion: 10/10 Ful: 7/10
This is was where I had to give Ion a bit more credit. His posts were longer, and slightly more descriptive. HB: You did very well. I would say you have some good RP skills, and I look forward to how you develop them! Fulgar is a character whom I wish to see grow, and I look forward to battles, both Story and RP, with him!
Emotion:
Ion: 10/10 Ful: 10/10
There was plenty of emotions, on both sides. I could feel it between both of them. Both in how Fulgar reacted when he wailed on Ion, and Ion with his Hope of surviving his final attack. I also felt that if one were to watch this battle, they would be able to feel it AND see it, and not just in the words.
Judge Points:
Ion: 9/10 Ful: 7/10
Okay, The only reason I'm docking points here is due in how this battle is read. Ion by far had better grammar and presentation, with spacing in his posts. That's why I'm docking you Fulgar. There has to be spacing, paragraphs, for me to read effectively without things blurring together. especially between quotes of when things are being spoken. I had to reread a few things due to the lack of spacing/format. Otherwise, I have no other complaint.
Results:
Ion: 94/100 A Rank! 20/200 + 40/400 (Rank) + 5/50 for finish! There is a Post Per Person thing too, But I don't know ow that orks, eather its 5/50 for EACH post, or if the post limit is reached... etc.
Fulgar: 86/100 A Rank! 20/200 + 40/400 (Rank) + 5/50 for finish! Same with Ion about the Post Per Person deal.
GREAT BATTLE! I LOOK FORWARD TO MORE GREAT RP GENLEMAN! XYPHER, OUT! =D
