“This is familiar…”
Once again he was in this situation: a mysterious figure guiding him out into the unknown and forcing him to try things that were out of his element. There were times when a person would feel like a fish out of water, but for this, Xenneth felt like a fish on an island in the sky. Here he was standing in front of a beautiful girl who wanted to take interest in his dance steps while he was outside of a building in an open space. One or the other was pressuring, but those things combined were rarer than him winning a lottery with a thousand number combinations.
But here he was…
Listening to the songs the mysterious maiden played from her strange bracelets, he had flushed red in his face once more. However, this time, it spread like wildfire as he almost felt like he would explode from the redness that had shown across his body. Her hand was stretched out for him to take the stage, but he was a modest boy. He could not steal the scenery if it was his for the taking with no eyes to see him whatsoever. So, he made a timid step left…then right…then left…
…then…stop.
“I-I don’t think…” he began with his hesitation, “I-I’m not really the best at-”
"”Sorry, but she’s coming with me!”"
"H-huh?"
He was caught off guard. He was ALWAYS caught off guard! Xenneth spun around the moment the figure swept past him and grabbed Phoebe. Just as he done so, he attempted to whisk himself to try to reach for her hand...that hand she reached out to give him the stage, but he missed! As usual he blew it again when the time counted!
That would not stop him though.
It gave him a moment to try to catch his breath. "Phoebe!" he cried out to her as he tried to pursue, but was met with a strange wave of energy that whipped forth and caused him to toss himself to the ground. His face in the dirt, but his ears open, he at least heard one thing; the place that they were heading and it was confusing.
"Aqua Net?"
He conceded his defeat once again. After all, he felt like he could do nothing without his friends.
"...Megami."
He was at a dilemma as he sat upon the ground toppled over in a pathetic heap. He felt useless! Should he rely on his friends...or not?

[????]””Just as you failed to save anyone before, you will fail to save anyone this time…”
”?!
Merrill could barely register the words before a chill went up his spine. It was impossible! There was no way he was in here! It just wasn’t possible! Before he could move, the figure was already halfway down halfway down the hallway. He stood up, and started for the door himself when Xylia grabbed his arm.
”Do you think you can fight? And if you go berserk, what then?”
Merrill pulled on his arm, looking back at her.
”He has returned… Again. It doesn’t matter right now. I’ll remain calm. Contact Xy, and I’ll do my best to stall until back up shows up… He started running down the hall, until the black wave came flying at him. He shoved a navi out of the way, and Xylia pushed him before it went past.
[????]”Aqua Net!”
Merrill heard where he was headed. He got up and started running to the doors, but they were already gone. He swore under his breath. Xylia was hot on his heels, already typing an email.
”I’m going, Xylia. Stay here.”
With that, Merrill was off to the Aqua net.
Xylia finished typing up a message, and sent it. She turned and looked at Xen.
”I am sorry about this. We’ll get her back to you sir!”
To: Xy From: Xylia Subject: Backup. MSG: Xy, Have you found him? We need him! Our mysterious navi showed up again! Headed to Aqua Net to pursue! Merrill refuses to let him go. He took a girl. Get us help!
Message sent, Xylia snorted.
”I’m not staying behind…”
With that, She teleported out of there, following in Merrill’s footsteps.

“ ”I am sorry about this. We’ll get her back to you sir!””
He hated the sound of that…
As usual, he felt like he was helpless when it came to the situation. He was depending on someone else to help him and not do things himself. That was probably why he had such trouble when it came to the last “adventure” he had with those natural born leaders, ONB agents, and whatever agency hired tightly leather clad women these days. The violet haired boy had slowly pulled himself up as the NetNavis had taken their leave. His right hand went to his P.E.T. as the empty screen shown itself.
Do he dare prove them wrong?
He swept his finger across the screen before he knew what was happening. His fingers ran across the dials as the menu activated the e-mail feature. He had to make haste to get to another area as soon as possible and where he can at least be close to Phoebe’s presence. They said “Aqua Net” and when Xenneth was in Green Town, he was better navigating from the computer at the shop to get quick access to deliveries.
It was decided: break into his place of employment, abuse the computer, and help a friend! Seemed logical enough! ----------------- SHORT MAIL To: Megami.EXE From: Xenneth Hikari [Body] A NetNavi needs your help in Aqua Net! Her name is Phoebe and she has been kidnapped by some guy! I’ll plug in from Tokyo Bloom! Just get there as fast as you can. -----------------
The violet haired boy had got up quickly from his perch after sending the e-mail. His right arm still pained from the old bruises and some fresh ones that continued the ache. He dashed for the nearest taxi certain about what task he would take, but careless as he was to regret that he did not have next to any fair after he would be done reaching his destination.

After finding her Navi and syncing her back to her PET, Chie left seaside and soon made her way to the OEL as she spoke of events to her parents. They were relieved that Guardian, and the data they placed to create Guardian was also safe, but confused as to why Guardian didn't plug out. Chie left it at Guardian claiming to have business to resolve first, and soon departed from her parents leaving them back to their work. Chie isn't angry, just having a hard time forgiving them for what happened, if anyone, they knew what Guardian meant to Chie. but they still hid crucial facts that came after a disaster.
Making her way to the cafeteria, she ordered a tea and had a seat in a corner, putting her PET on the table as she opened a holoscreen, reading up and student council and school news as she awaited the return of her Navi, occasionally looking into the crowd of humans and navis, unable to shake a suspicious vibe that someone was watching her.

“So…it’s killing me…”
The violet haired boy had felt as if he was being handed a pamphlet. He did not know how to take the contents of what he was reading, but he knew the end of it. Regardless, Xenneth knew what he desired to know, but he just wish he had not walked in this place. His right hand stroking his neck had looked for the traces of the branch black straight lines reaching from beyond his collar. He winced, drawing back his hand, as Xenneth had sighed.
He accepted his reality, now it was time for lunch.
There were many tables, but he was accustom to the corners. He looked about finding that they were all taken, but that did not stop him from going to get a cup of green tea, and hope that within the time, the area would become more empty. That had not worked out as plan (as usually for him). He cursed himself, shaking his read realizing why the lab was much more busier than the past.
“A lot of students are still here,” he thought to himself out loud, “The incident at school still has some of the officials and refugees worried.”
The Electopia National Combined School incident was still fresh in the minds of everyone. The resulting explosion, an ancient NetNavi trying to play God, and not to mention the sharp shooting pain that brought Xenneth here after the battle alongside those insane Net Operators and their NetNavis. They always seemed to pop up and he be robed into these situations. He was use to it, but not the resulting the illness that came after the battle that brought him here in the first place.
Was it strange that he was just more concerned about things getting back to normal?
The young violet haired boy had walked subconsciously to the table he was used to, and before he knew it, he was standing before a young woman who he stared at for about five seconds. He had to say something, right? A weak smile coming across his face, forced as he tried to resist the throbbing pain on his neck, he addressed the young woman before him trying to dispel the awkward (not the first) situation he had created due to his carelessness.
“Uh…umm…hello,” he said failing in his attempt, “I-I’m sorry…I-I was just wondering…if you were a-a-also a student at the combined school. I-I never seen you before!”
A lie that he was wondering who she was, but it was true…he never seen her at ENCS.

As she looked up from her holoscreen to let her eyes rest upon the sight of the young man, Chie immediately figured out what she felt odd a moment prior. She examined the violet haired youth quickly, using peripheral vision to analyze without moving her eyes, while she put on a polite smile that would be slightly off putting as it had nothing more than basic pleasantries and no kind warmth.
"No, I don't attend there. I attend a private school for advanced academics."
Closing the holoscreen, she motioned for the young man to have a seat. Chie intended to leave shortly after Guardian's arrival and the cafeteria was flooded anyways. Examining her PET, she checked her Navi status as something caught her eye, that it was way beyond Guardian's normal capabilities. Slightly biting her lip she returned focus to the man, embarrassed by her negligence of manners but didn't let it show as she sipped her tea and spoke in a soft yet unnerving tone for so e reason. Any emotional reaction seemed to be an act perfected but hollow of feeling.
"My name is Chie Kira."

“She seems so refined…”
It was the first thing he noticed, and maybe the reason he took her offer to sit.
The violet haired boy had sat down, removing his newsboy cap and sitting it down. It seemed proper, and he certainly did not want to insult the young woman. His white denim jacket however stayed on as it seemed cold in here…or was it just him? He had felt like that as of late for some reason, and it was not a good sign. It the reason why he came here in the first place after all. Xenneth, sitting down his cup of tea, had responded to the young woman finally:
“U-umm…Xenneth Hikari.” he said introducing himself, “I-I guess that means we go to different schools then. Sorry for disturbing you. I was just here checking the specs on my P.E.T. It’s still…being tested.”
The violet haired boy had revealed her right wrist wrapped with a flexing device. The interface looked very similar to a regular P.E.T., except it was in the form of a wrist device that seemed to snap into place and was more compact. He had reached for it, taking it out of its compartment as he checked the screen once and then sat it down revealing its empty face. His NetNavi, whomever it may be, was not present at the moment, and even if she was, he felt it would be rude to stare at his device and not talk to the young woman who was so inviting.
She would know that. It seemed that whatever it may have been, the young woman’s attention was directed to her own P.E.T.
“I-I’m sorry to ask,” he stammered, “But is everything okay? You seem…distracted.” Old habits died hard. Even now, if he was in turmoil, he could not help but to ask about others.

As the two youths speak to one another, a loud "PING" resounds, silencing all in the area. Now somehow beside and between them stands a tall, thin man dressed in a perfectly kept black, formal overcoat and an equally well kept top hat. The brass buttons along the coat shine like polished gold and lead to a white turtle neck obviously beneath. He stands with a gloved hand on a brass cane that had obviously made the sound before, and looks at the two young operators with a focused scowl from his almost ghostly pale face.
?: A stronger question would be is anything "okay", young man!
The stranger whips the cane up and around like a rapier, pointing it squarely into Xenneth's face.
?: Tell me a single thing that you could consider right, and explain to me why it is right with inarguable terms!
The stranger then whips his cane back into position, slamming its end to the floor with yet another loud "PING" while resting both palms atop its ornate finial.
?: You cannot! The very nature of life means that what is okay to you, may be a sheer horror to another! This, young man, is why we have the conflicts that we do!
The strange man then whips his cane around again, this time pointing it at Chie as he gives her a stern look from the corner of his eye.
?: And you! What are these "advanced studies?" What do you base this classification on, the general populace? Mankind is a stupid beast, so take no pride in elevation above another!
The odd man then slams his cane back down before himself again, his stern and unyielding face remaining as he does so.
?: Especially when there are so many that far exceed you! He who takes solace in what he has now is doomed to gain nothing more of value!
The man then stands there with his harsh stare, looking down his roman nose at the operators with a disdain not for them, but for what they believe of themselves.

Examining the young mans pashion for his PET, Chie immediately let her mind race and put pieces together. She could tell that even I'd he had a evil bone in his body that he's too passive and shy to act on it. She found his interest in technology to be his scapegoat from the world and pondered if potential exploit for manipulation. She hates manipulation, which is why she makes it personal to know how to manipulate weaker people as to protect them from those who would.
Looking at his PET, she tried to imagine what functional purpose that serves. However as the youth took an interest in her life, she shrugged off her views of the PET.
"Its a long story, just had a big experience resolve and things are changing."
As the silencing sound went off, Chie inspected the area but soon found a rather tall man standing beside her, she soon figured out that this was not a man of moldable thought as she could see the fierce intent in his eyes and the tension in his shoulders from underneath his heavy clothes. Even for a man of science she found his thoughts arrogant as he barged in. As he finished his words, she refused to show any signs of an emotional rise, she quickly looked back to Xenneth as she let some compassion show through her eyes, before she became sharply focused enough to make a mettaur hide in it's helmet.
"Xenneth, do not say a word."
Looking back to the man as she let go of her cup of tea, standing up to look him in the eyes, PET in hand. Ironically while Guardian found herself against edge, no one would expect their net ops on a similar field.
"I'm not against the Socratic method, it's an interesting way to provide new views on what we already have a predetermined perception of, however your execution is sloppy. You barge in on conversations in a public place that have nothing to do with you all because of a linguistic error and name of a series of lessons don't fall within your realm of expectations."
looking the man in the eyes, he was in no way intimidating, even should he strike her here, the burns she took a time ago would hurt way more by comparison.
"If its safe to say your a scientist, what right do you have to claim errors in others speech, you have a formal education, you spent years this young man hasn't gone through yet. He's just human, he's bound to make mistakes that even you made when you were young. So, does age simply give you the right to judge the grammatically lessor?"
From the corner of her eyes, she looked around the room and began to see people leaving by the numbers, making her wonder exactly who she was speaking to.
"Or is it just pure intelligence? I find that to be a much more error filled argument as it is one of the most subjective things in the world; as intelligence takes on many forms: Naturalist, Musical, logical, existential, interpersonal, bodily-kinesthetic, linguistic, intrapersonal, and spatial. He could outweigh you in more ways so can you really judge him for a mistake common in this society?"
taking a moment, Chie caught her breath as she prepared her second argument, at this point she found no returning as she came this far, however she wanted to know if this man would move or not.
"Now, whoever said I took pride in taking a mislabeled selection of course material designed to make a bunch of rich or lucky youth to feel privileged? it's really just the knowledge all youth go into society after minimum required education but with higher schooling standards and a fancy name and societal view to appeal to the animals of the university application committee. I claimed nothing of pride, I simply answered this young mans question as I have only recited words of others."
Sitting back down, Chie crossed her legs as she rested her hand back on her tea, looking up at the man no longer with the intent that would make a virus run, but a polite smile befitting a young lady as she spoke in a gentle tone as opposed to the sharp one a moment ago.
"Now, is there anything else I can help you with?"

“Changing?”
Before Xenneth could even begin to inquire anymore, he had become alarmed. His eyes had gone around to hear the silence sound ring throughout he lab. His first instinct, a serious look in his eyes as he had begun to reach his P.E.T. He stopped short of a single digit, tapping it across the table top, and his other hand reaching for his neck. A painful reminder of what the use of that power might cause.
"Xenneth, do not say a word."
That was easy enough.
The confidence of this young woman was enough to cease Xenneth from taking any more action. His eyes staring, focused on the young woman, he wondered if she would be alright. That display of a refine attitude was convincing, and his own boundless experience with dealing with these situations, he had no choice but to stand down for the moment and hope that nothing happened. He had felt powerless…after all that time spent becoming stronger, he was still allowing someone to fight his battles.
…or so he thought…until this mysterious individual appeared before them.
“Wha?!” the violet haired boy jumped in shock, seeing the blunt cane pointed to his face, “W-w-who-”
”A stronger question would be is anything "okay", young man! Tell me a single thing that you could consider right, and explain to me why it is right with inarguable terms!”
He could not, but whether he had an answer or not, he stayed quiet, just as Chie asked.
Still, the man had made a point, whether it was mad or not. Xenneth knew that he could not consider things “right” since he had experienced everything on the internet. These Gods that appeared and would make it so that the world vanished in an instance. Not to mention there were the instances where Xenneth himself had become a threat due to him not understanding the world and how his friends affected it. Many times, he had stood with his friends to protect peace, and other times, he was a threat to it.
Xenneth scowled sadly, his head lowering in a show of guilt.
As the man went on, but yet, another voice came to:
"If its safe to say your a scientist, what right do you have to claim errors in others speech, you have a formal education, you spent years this young man hasn't gone through yet. He's just human, he's bound to make mistakes that even you made when you were young. So, does age simply give you the right to judge the grammatically lessor?"
“M-mistakes…huh?”
He stroked his neck once more, the violet haired boy frowning still as the young woman spoke.
She was right, but yet, it was almost as if she was making excuses for him. Sure, he was young, but yet he had to be strong. His eyes remained to have a stuck glare as he stared at the table, listening to the young woman. She certainly was wise, that he could not deny. He had thought of her being refined before, but now, she seemed to beyond his initial observation.
She was just incredible! How was she that strong?
“…I simply answered this young mans question as I have only recited words of others."
The words of others? That sounded familiar…
Just by hearing that, Xenneth had a gentle smile on his face. The electric blue irises stared towards his P.E.T. Even if his NetNavi was not there, he knew exactly what would be said and what expression would be on both of their faces. That nonchalant attitude, wisdom, and composure was emulated in every way as Xenneth stood up right in his seat. His right hand reached for his P.E.T., went to his left grasp, and snapped into place on his dominant wrist. He twisted in his seat to see Chie standing before him.
He would be able to stand like that one day for someone. Until then…
“I-It’s alright…Ms. Kira.” the violet haired boy’s voice chimed. He knew he was going against her wishes to speak, but he did not want her to stress and stand, especially if it was to fend him where he should have been doing so himself. “I-It’s fine. Really…y-you have said more than enough.”
She made a point more than she knew.

The strange man once again slams the end of his cane downward, causing a loud ruckus as he does so. However, this time it generates a sharp echo as roughly half of the people and Navis, most OEL workers, have mysteriously vacated the dining hall.
?: Even now you simply prove my point, child; you have let your education stand as a road-block to your learning! Your education has taught you to parrot the thoughts of those who are truly intelligent for the sake of donning a sophisticated mask! You have fooled yourself into believing that you do not need to learn from sources far beyond the worthless "schools" that we have today, and have diluted your potential as a result! Is not the education that you put such precious stock into nothing more than those with greater experience vomiting information? Then what right have you to ignore the same when it has the potential to teach you something far deeper: to not put value in such things!
The stranger then swipes his cane to the side and holds it firmly, once again slamming it to the ground as he does so.
?: Your choice to hide behind your ignorance and defend yourself rather than learn only demonstrates that what I have stated; mankind is but a stupid beast!
The man then swipes his cane back to Xenneth, looking to the boy out of the corner of his eye as he does so.
?: And you! Why do you fall to the whim of another?! Are you so weak that the order to stay quiet from one with superior delusions is all that it takes to silence you?! If that is the case, then give me all that you own, for you deserve none of it!
The man's cane slams into the ground again. However, this time it fails to grip the tile and slips to the side.
?: ...!
Without a word, the strange man disappears beneath the table and face-plants onto the floor. Silence finally comes for a moment as he lays there without saying a word for an awkward amount of time. However, just when it seems like he may have simply died, a white glove grips the side of the table and the stranger rises, reaffirming himself as though nothing had happened.
?: Stop feeling secure in your weakness and stupidity! Do not be the parrots that these ones are!
The stranger swipes his cane behind himself, pointing to the Navis and Humans in the cafeteria... however, what he doesn't realize is the fact that the entire area is now entirely empty.
?: Learn not simply from others, but from yourself! Gain unique thought, not that which another has written in a book!
The man then slams his cane back before himself with another sharp "PING". However, this time his eyes waver slightly as he looks down to make sure that he had planted it properly.
?: This is when you can take pride in yourselves, but should not take pride, for blind pride will simply blind you to farther truth!
The man stares harshly at the two before him once again, obviously prepared to spew more bluster at the drop of a hat.

As the man exploited his unusual and unorthodox behavior to the point where it soon became ridiculous to presume he was a scientist at all as he used nothing but his own views. As he assaulted her argument she did not appear to be disturbed in the slightest as she closed her eyes and sipped her tea, almost ignoring the man.
Putting down the cup, she sighed as she knew how this was going to go, however she was more so annoyed at how he treated Xenneth, after his bout of foolishness, she opened her eyes as she saw the room empty.
Even while the man was fallen she was sending an e-mail to her Navi.
"I'm at OEL, man with boundary and manner issues harassing, odd fashion, if you got time after your business, please contact an OEL navi."
As the older man finished his rant, she held her PET out, blocking the screen from sight as she aimed it towards a wall port while looking at the man with nonchalance as all socially correct kindness faded, her eyes fierce enough to make quake virus jump the other way.
"I'm not fond of the way you just barged in here and argued on a conversation that had nothing to do with you and how your harassing Xenneth, he may bend to my will but that's his choice. Some are meant to dominate and others to be dominated. Now, leave peacefully, or my navi will plug into the system and find HR and report you for harassing youths. No one is above HR."

“Who is this guy?”
At this point, Hikari’s day was not going well at all.
One moment, he is getting news about him being sick, and now he is being assaulted by a man with his cane a spouting nonsense. Hikari was not the best with philosophy and words, and if he did not know any better, he wore that’s why this man as attacking him: his lack of intellect. It was not like they knew one another, but in the past, the violet haired boy had known that meetings were not by coincidence, and every time he met someone, they would go to either later be an enemy, ally, obstacle, or just plain annoying.
This person was no exception: annoying.
“I don’t…” he begun to rub his neck, agitated by the markings as well as the individual. However, he did not show it. His attitude was mild as ever, and he knew well that he should keep himself from breaking down. He had promised this for his friend’s sake, and he did not want to be that weak individual anymore. He did not bother finishing his sentence; he could not lie and say he was had departed from being a sheep, but he knew that there had been some sort of change within him…however minor.
“I'm not fond of the way you just barged in here and argued on a conversation that had nothing to do with you and how your harassing Xenneth, he may bend to my will but that's his choice.”
“Uuuuhh…”
Seriously? Did everyone think that he was a doormat?
Xenneth had not said anything, but simply watched with an awkward, half smile as well as a blank stare in his eyes. He pretty much had no lines in this play at this point. It was just as the young woman said: he bent to her will…by choice. He had a thing for fearing females, hence the gun toting fatale that barked orders and was not the friendly type…and also the female who turned to be a NetNavi…and now the domineering young woman that was before him taking a stand and seeming as if she was taking charge of the entire OEL Cafeteria that was near empty.
Why did he keep bumping into strange people?

This choice... this threat... with it comes something new; the eccentric and odd nature of the man before these two gives way to a sudden focus in his eyes; a frightening focus that far surpasses Chie's
?: Very well then, young lady. If you wish to escalate...
The man simply looks up to a camera in the corner and nods, looking back to the duo with a solemn face. Mere seconds later, roughly 6 guards seem to appear out of nowhere and surround the two, each thoroughly armed and ready to take action.
OEL Guard: Are you alright, professor? Did these children do anything?
The man stands with both hands on his cane, staring down Chie in silence for what seems like a small eternity. His eyes look through her with a seriousness that his previous rants lacked just moments before. Finally he breaks the silence as he speaks to the guard in a simple, calm voice.
?: No, commander. I simply wish to know what time it is. I left my pocket watch back in my room.
Without missing a beat the guards stand at ease as the commander looks down to his watch and responds in formal terms.
OEL Guard: It is 4:32 PM, sir.
The man nods and dismisses the guards with a wave of his hand. They silently file out of the room, weapons at the ready, and disappear down a nearby hallway. At this point the stranger raises his head slightly, his eyes still locked onto Chie.
Perhaps it's time that I properly introduce myself. I am Professor Tuttle, lead researcher for Official Experiment Labs. Contrary to what you believe, I am above human resources, because I am human resources. No man or woman works on any project of any consequence without my direct consent, and that includes the new contract scientists that I presume to be your parents.
Tuttle takes his cane and holds it firmly, no longer displaying the animated eccentricity that he had just moments before.
Tuttle: But perhaps you deserve the benefit of the doubt, young lady. Perhaps you don't know what exactly official experiment labs is. Well, allow me to share; we are a government supported yet not overseen entity with the sole purpose of developing net-technology. Within these walls we have our own police system and the authority to deliver whatever sentences we deem fit within reason. Word from our labs is grounds enough to mark someone for life, or even bring about a prison sentence if the need arises. To summarize; you have no power here, while I have all power here. Or, in other terms; Some are meant to dominate and others to be dominated.
Tuttle pauses for a moment, slowly spinning his cane in thought.
Tuttle: But, no. I have no interest in destroying the lives of a young girl or her family. Quite the opposite; I simply wished to observe your reaction to such a situation. We can simply leave that encounter at this...
Tuttle glares a little harder, his face becoming slightly disgusted at Chie as he does so.
Tuttle: ....assuming you have the wisdom to offer no farther rebuttal.

As the mans identity soon came into light, Chie soon came into a feeling of annoyance as she felt like everything was against her. The arrogant always turns out as the high powered, which in this case placed Chie at a bad situation. Crossing her arms, she still contained her composure until Tuttle referenced her parents. Since the fellow researchers at the private employers used the Guardian virus incident to blackmail Chie's parents out, OEL was the best option for now. Chie didn't want to ruin their contract, but she can't just let Tuttle walk over people like nothing.
Biting her lip she recalled how she'd found Guardian, one good thing gone right. As Tuttle finished speaking sghe looked at Xenneth for a moment then back to her PET, cursing the Guardian attack data.
"You're right to assume my lineage, I was just here to inform my parents of a certain matters resolve."
As she sighed, she knew how to proceed, but wasn't gonna let herself drop to Tuttle's feet and grovel. She looked him from the corner of her eyes, preparing to focus back on Xenneth as she spoke final words to Tuttle.
"I do agree we should part ways before one f us goes through unnecessary hassle."
