Disempowering "magic". That would explain it. Though they'd never met, Scarface had watched Xion, and knew very well that he should be stronger than he feels to be now. It also means that the battle has its own unique traps to watch out for. Fortunately, Scarface had always been second to none in terms of raw avoidance. Still, something does seem off....
Scarface: He has no notable forces, and a lack of power and skill himself. Then why is he considered enough of a threat to request additional forces?
It didn't add up. This is a group of darkloids and darkloid sympathizers the likes of which hadn't been seen in ages, and yet an under-powered usurper managed to take their base of operations? It doesn't add up. Either Xion was lying about the opponent's power, or there's some other bit of information that the master darkloid is failing to share.

*He supposed he had to look at this objectively since Scarface posed the question that way. Outside of the guy just being annoying enough where they wanted to kill him really hard, he supposed that there were some other things to factor in. For starters there was magic period. They had a second helping of the facts he would list off next.*
"Well, two reasons I suppose. One because seeing as Ruin hasn't reported back that the guy is at least stronger than he is or they're still fighting. Another because said power loss happened to more than just me. As far as I can tell only two of our heavy hitter remained untouched."
*Jax and Ruin weren't around when it happened. That other guy showed up after too. Scarface was another who had avoided it thanks to not being there. Jax also hadn't shown up and he likely had either followed Ruin or went off to fight in other places. If the guy was strong enough to best Ruin then there were possible odds that while weakened he could take them as a combined unit while the weaker ones were gathered together. Which was a depressing way of saying that magic was stupid. And so he didn't quite say it at all, even if it probably was all but implied by this point.*

That made more sense. Underestimating a foe is the best way to end up in this hole, as Scarface himself had realized in the past. He had no intention of falling prey to the pretender, and now he had at least enough information to begin going about that.
Scarface: Very well.
Scarface finally breaks his statuesque stance, walking forward and past Xion.
Scarface: I will strike through when the time is right. I expect you and your men to do the same.
Scarface then glances back to Xion, the golden disk over his right eye lighting up as he does so.
Scarface: And if you or any of your men think it wise to turn on me during or after this, then consider your life forfeit. As if on Scarface's que, another bolt of lightning strikes just outside of the castle, the blinding light and echoing crash that it brings cloaking the Assassin Knight as he seems to vanish from sight, leaving Xion alone once again.

*Like the near-perfect assassin that he was, he would strike at the best time it seemed. Well, he had told his men what to do already. He would just have to meet up with them there. The blinding light from the lightning had masked the Assassin Knight as he vanished, having enough time to rationally look at the situation now. Nothing for it then.*
"Let's go see what's happening at the city then. Odds are they've begun already."
*So like before the darkness around him swelled upon him, this time dropping into the ground immediately after. He had a place to be too after all. It wouldn't do for the leader of a group like this to cower on the sidelines, not one bit.*

Jax [From.. Dark City some page]
After some time Jax arrives at the crumbling citadels entrance. Creamland had a large number of these structures in its day and it seems Samhain would rather them be battered relics with a new coat of paint on them. The navi flips his hood back up and leisurely strolls through the lobby and up the tower.

Suddenly as Jax rounds a corner in the stairwell there is a snake! Oh no! But this is not just a snake, it is an exceptionally large snake. Also it breathes fire!
...luckily, it's just a carving in the wall and not an actual living thing. The creature is part of a large engraved image of a battle; it is roasting what looks like an entire battalion of holy knights alive, cooking them inside their armor. Close inspection would reveal the national crest of Creamland on the knights' shields, because Lord Samhain is subtle about his symbolism like that. Upon closer inspection, once could see the serpent's eye was a button of some sort, raised slightly from the rest of the wall...

Jax (The lazy bugs actually wove this tapestry celebrating my victory as I was killing them. -Zapp from Futurama)
From within his shroud Jax raises an eyebrow at the display. Such savagery. It can only be assumed this being the fiend 'Samhain'. If only he had been here when this warlord invaded. To brutalize the weak inhabitants of Creamland so thoroughly and sculpt the network so effectively he must be a being of worthy power.
While admiring the craftsmanship of this painting Jax finally catches the glint of the button. How cliche, but interesting. He approaches the large mural and gives the eye a solid push. Stepping back a few paces to observe.

As soon as the button was pressed, the walls began to vibrate...
...with the sound waves of music! The button had activated hidden speakers all throughout the tower which now blared out a loud melody to alert any nearby guards to the presence of someone mucking around looking for secret passageways. The song was melancholy but surprisingly nonthreatening, moody and infectious.
It was an ancient melody from centuries prior, which had been found somewhere on the net an incorporated into the building's code as an afterthought during Samhain's takeover. Overwhelmingly popular in its time, it had been forgotten, lost to the ravages of time for all but a handful of cultured historians and research institutes.
As the first verse of superstar girl group Exposé's #1 hit "Seasons Change" blared through the building, something began to stir within the shadows, footsteps approaching Jax from both the top and bottom of the tower, closing in rapidly...

Jax (I'm not seeing the weapons grade level alert here. Sounds good to me)
No level of preparation could have readied Jax for what blared from the painting. Some kind of 80's smooth pop filled the tower. What kind of being would enjoy a mellow tune with such emotional lyrics? Still dazed he is unaware of the shadows creeping in on him.
