For a brief moment, she had no idea what Edge was thinking.
Then, everyone in the room knew what Edge was thinking, and she was the only one that understood the rant at all. None of the others with her had any concept that they had been torn apart and put back together, seemingly in an instant. Heartless, for her part, maintained her cordial half-smile as he ranted, looking over at her kids to see their responses to his outburst. Jack looked at him in near disbelief, Tia just craned her head down, and Arthur, bless him, plugged his ears.
Alexander narrowed his gaze, always too perceptive for his own good. He knew that Edge believed in what he was saying, she could tell, and he was just given reason to believe that something was amiss. As Edge apologized, she took that first step forward, cutting Alexander off before he could answer. "Mr. Edge and I have been working pretty tirelessly to put this together," she lied, glancing between the others in the room with her. Only Edge would know this to be a lie, and her poker face was expertly hidden - not even Alexander would hope to notice. "We're both fairly tired, and I think the Noise Wave's interference may have caused some unforeseen effects; something worth looking into, now that we know about it," she explained further, trying to get the situation back into their court, and away from whatever Alexander may have been thinking.
He teetered on the edge of questioning her, but, he always had a weakness in trusting her entirely. He just nodded at her, and the kids gathered around them as he began to lead the group out of the building. She packed back up her supplies, latching the briefcase back to her arm, and looked at the door that Edge had disappeared behind.
". . . I need to know what happened up there. The truth . . . and I need to know whether or not I can trust my family," she muttered, to no one out loud in particular. She knew what Alexander was capable of all on his own, to say nothing of what someone controlling the enigmatic megalomaniacal genius could be capable of. Of all of them, Arthur was easily the most dangerous of the bunch for someone to have sensitive information on, as the experimental wave being he was in possession of had a very unique method of resonating with Noise . . .
Why was it always her, working in the background, keeping all of them safe, and none of them any the wiser just what they meant to her? Her face the very picture of controlled and professional, Heartless made her way to the door, intent on returning for work once she had put everything back where she needed it. She'd bring specs from her lab to set up wherever it is they needed her, and she had every intention of sharing what she knew with them, in return for them sharing with her what they knew about whatever threat has been assailing the Net. While she's been keeping tabs, Alexander had her quite busy elsewhere, and it wasn't easy to keep tabs on multiple things at once.
She was very busy, it would seem.
