The beeping of the email notification sound echoed on the BBS. Nebula System Dynamics had asked for voluntary presence in one of their facilities...again. It looked like a K907 needed someone to do something. Inside the massege there were some jibberish about a revival project going wrong and a new daemon hybrid thing being spawned out of the data they used.
As the matter was of upmost urgency, the K-Unit was waiting for the navi applying to help to show up outside the complex's entrance. He hoped at least one of the many bbs readers answered.

"Why am I doing this again?" K-414 growled as the beast tromped up toward the entrance. "It asked for a navi, not a program."
RAM: You're close enough. Besides, whatever this project is that they're working on, I'd like to get a little more information.
"Why not just ask the president? Don't make me do your grunt work."
RAM: Getting a carefully worded reply is very different from seeing the actual fruits of the labor. Besides, this will be a good learning scenario for you to behave in public.
K-414 gave a low growl under his breath as he came closer, his sensors picking up 907 as he approached. Oh good. Good. Not that he had any direct issue with his half-brother, but that just put this whole situation into that much more of a weirder state. If he were dealing with someone that he didn't know and didn't plan to see again, he could let his irritation show. But with 907, he had to at least fake politeness.
"So what's all this about, with this...project?" the beast called as he approached, crimson eyes scanning and taking in everything as he did. There was nothing that seemed viral in nature, here...but there was enough uncertainy and supsicion in the beast's tone for 907 to pick up on.

The K-Unit turned around and tilted his head. His sensor could pick up some banter...from his bigger brother 414!
The small jackal hopped over to the bigger KUnit, scans of his body language revealing annoyance. "Hey Big Brother! Are you...ok?" He asked, somewhat concerned. "You're the last guy I would ever think I'd see here. I thought the AS didn't want anything to do with Dark Power. Although, you being you could help us with data."
K907 would quickly connect to the Animus, trying to contact 414's operator and ask stuff directly at the source. It was mighty weird of a situation.

"We don't. That's why I don't know why I'm here," K-414 grunted, shaking himself a bit as he looked back at the jackal-like program. "I guess we're here to see just what it is that you're doing and if we need to terminate the project that was the collaborative effort," he spoke, looking pointedly at the dark-furred K-Unit before him.
RAM: Now, now. That is not at all what we're doing here. Don't speak on your own authority, 414.
The message went out to both, and K-414 snorted, shaking his head. "This is just a bad idea. Who cares about bringing something back from the dead? Just code a new one. It's just data."
RAM: Some may not agree with you. Now, 907, can you show us inside?
K-414 grunted again, looking irritated as he often did, but even moreso, now.

The entire network lagged for a brief moment as 907's snout paled visibly in cold sweat, with wide shocked eyes frantically looking left and right. 907 was trying to calculate where he had made such a fatal error to warrant his temination. The data flux was so massive that the moment it passed through the nexus navi it made the net hiccup.
His efficiency rating was over 99.467% with a 0.003% increase over last month, his strength had also exponentially increased by a factor of 3 since the test with all the other K-Units. He wondered if 414 was mad at him for challenging him that day. Thankfully, the reassuring voice of his Big Brother's operator was heard resonate within his mind. He happily welcomed Richard's presence inside his head, allowing him to access any and all his programs and data without restriction, just to show there was nothing wrong going on in him.
"Right, sure thing! You guys are always welcome at Nebula anytime you like!" The little jackal replied, hopping to 414's side and gently holding the blue Lycan's paw in his as he lightly tugged 414 inside the lab.
There was something in that action that spoke volumes about the hybrid K-Unit. A deep rooted loyalty to not only K001, but to all members of the K-Pack. Genuine concern for the wellbeing of all his brothers and sisters was part of him as well. Being a Nexus type Navigator Program would have him more espressive when it came about emotions. And then there was the way he related to 414. Even to outside eyes it would be pretty clear that 907 always had that burning desire to earn 414's respect and approval.
The small flicks of his tail pretty much gave away how excited he was to work with his big brother. Also the paw-holding. It was special to him.
907 slowed down his walking to avoid excessive tugging. "You see, big brother, we are always trying to find a way to cure Navi's most problematic afflictions, those being Dark Power addiction and Permanent Deletion. Now, I heard you were able to kill the Life Virus...while that is seriously something coo-I mean-impressive, we have some...bad news."
With his free paw extending to a card reader, 907 was imediately allowed acces without even touching the thing. The entire complex immediately recognized the .nsd extension of his Core File as the highest authorisation level availableand automatically unlocked everything for him.
"New Viruses popped up. Symbiotic in nature on first glance, they usually sneak up on you during battle and replace one of your limbs. Then, as soon as the host is deleted...very bad stuff happen. So we were trying to combat them by studying late Aeron.Fn's data, a navi capable of fusing perfectly with a host. The samples got contaminated with Dark Power from an old project we had constructed for a certain darkloid...and from the stuff a new entity has spawned."
The jackal would stop walking in a large square room with various sets of machinery on all sides. He would let go of 414's paw before continuing his explanation. Pointing at the thick buppetproof glass chamber in the middle of the room, 907 waved at the strange dark blue blob slushing onto the ground.
"That came out. Apparently, it's sentient and powerful as a navi. We do not exactly know its powers yet but he etert a tremendous amount of Dark Power. The only reading this strong come from DarkSouls, so it's safe to assume that is either a DarkSoul itself or its concentrated power. We...needed a volunteer to...well...interact with it. Despite being a DarkSoul, it shows no signs of aggression to anyone. However..."
The dark blob stopped sloshing for a moment, two magenta oval shaped cores becoming visible. They floated towards 414, as if a pair of eyes staring at him.
"It seems to be craving for someone to bond with just like those viruses I told you about. Now, we wanted to record the interaction between volunteers and the test subject. We already have contingency procedures to recover the volunteers unharmed, but since you're here...could you maybe help us with this, Big Brother? You're naturally resilient towards this kind of things so maybe we could extrapolate some data on how to heal people from parasitic being such as this one, or cleanse their souls. Or get rid of the Dark Powerk plaguing them."

”I don't know that I want to be welcome in this place,” K-414 growled, mostly under his breath and mostly to himself as he waited for Richard to finish a cursory exploration of 907's systems. He glanced over to the side, mostly just huffing and generally being unhappy with things in general, as was often the case, when he felt the other take hold of his hand. Immediately, K-414 was about to withdraw it and deliver a very powerful, angry, left hook at the other lupine existence, however a single thing stopped him from decimating the other.
RAM: K-414. Do not engage into any situations that will reflect poorly on either of us.
414: I don't like being touched.
RAM: Unfortunate. Deal with it.
K-414 let out a small, angry hiss at Richard's response, the conversation private between the two of them as K-414 tromped in after the other, moving forward. The two of them weren't even Navi, and having this level of expression was exactly why K-414 wasn't keen on allowing the Nebula folks to be engaged in this project. That imparted things into the other's head that K-414 just simply felt were irrelevant. Such as this gaining enjoyment from the proximity of others. He respected 358 for what he could do and 501 for her abilities on the field. He mostly disliked 907 and 216 both though, for various different reasons. Granted, he saw 216's potential and he definitely was respectful of what 907 could do. But that didn't mean that he particularly enjoyed having his hand held lik ehe was some sort of human infant.
”Dark Power addiction is an easy thing to cure. Don't get addicted in the first place,” the beast growled, plodding along after the other. The creature wanted nothing more than to draw his hand back, but he was obeying Richard's orders. Even if he had no desire to. It went far beyond what he wanted and what he didn't want. He had been told and as such, he must obey.
Granted, the other had some changes that had been made to the K-414 program as well, keeping the frost-ridden version of him buried deep back down within his code. However, even Richard knew that it would come out at a moment's notice, as soon as it was needed.
RAM: Yes. I have my own way around the permanent deletion that we have been seeing, though thankfully I have not had to test it often to see if it is...effective. But beyond that, I am glad to hear that the news of K-414's defeat of the Life Virus has gone as...viral...as it has.
K-414 gave a growling sigh at the pun, Richard seeming to be pleased as all hell with the fact that he had managed it. Granted, he supposed he couldn't really blame him. K-414 had been designed to kill viruses, and he had succeeded at destroying the most powerful and ancient of them all. However, within himself, K-414 couldn't access the full memories of what had happened then. He imagined that his data had taken a beating but he couldn't quite recall the effects that had happened, then. But everyone seemed to report to him that he'd won and so...
He paused, as the dark-furred k-unit mentioned new viruses. ”What new viruses?” he growled, but got no real answer as they made their way into the room that 907 had brought them to. ”What are you even talking about?” he continued, but a word from Richard made him quiet, letting 907 continue his explanation.
As they entered, there was a strange...substance on the other side. 'As powerful as a Navi' didn't mean much to K-414 considering he didn't have the same processing power one had, but he didn't need one. He did one thing very well, and that was to obliterate viruses.
RAM: So what you're saying then, are these viruses that were formed are reminiscent of a DarkSoul themselves? And their properties, along with Aeron.fn caused this creature to come into existence? Curious.
”What the hell does it matter? If it's a virus, I'll kill it,” K-414 growled, glowering back at the thing across the glass.
RAM: I think this is an interesting experiment indeed. K-414, follow 907's instructions and allow assimilation. I'll be monitoring you from here.
The beast gave an exhale. ”Understood. What do I need to do? Just go in?” K-414 asked, looking back at the wall. ”Do I break it?” he asked, completely serious.

The jackal nodded, turning over as he slapped Richard's face onto the entire wall of the lab. The wall was basically a huge screen. It would give richard a 4k resolution feed of what was happening in the lab.
"We have no clue. We have no name, we have absolutely nothing but word of mouth. But these...things might have already fused with other navis and we have no way of knowing or detecting them. It's kind of concerning. Up to now, we never saw this kind of code fusion outside of Aeron.Fn. We are beginning to think that someone might have stolen his code to purposely create these new viruses."
He would turn over to 414. "While your strength is impressive, these glass walls are designed to hold and resist a Class 30 catastrophic event. In no nerd talk, not even something as strong as a Pulsar can break them. You need to have an energy output near Neutron Sweeping power to make a dent. Also they cost alot."
The black wolf placed a paw on the glass. A separating barricade divided the dark blue fluid from the other half of the chamber as it opened to allow 414 inside.
907 connected to the central database to begin logging procedures. "Just follow my directions. For now I want you to just stand in place inside the chamber. The barricade will lift itself in 20 seconds. Standby..."

"Shut up, nerd," K-414 responded to the lengthy discussion of the walls themselves, the beast giving a low grunt, self-congratulating himself on his rather clever retort to the description of the walls. Not that he particularly cared- he would decimate the walls if he wanted to, if it came down to it. Right now, of course, he didn't have much reason to do so...but the fact that 907 had told him that he couldn't was almost reason enough for him to try.
"Curious. I've read the reports on Aeron. We had attempted something similar with 414 but his own code rejected the additional benefits granted. An unexpected, though perhaps favorable, side-effect of how he operates." K-414 didn't really dignify this with any sort of response, the beast simply standing against the far wall, his arms folded over his chest. "Other experimentation on such systems led to the development of 216, who we feel would be a greater asset than continuing research into a field of navi enhancement. The leftover research went into 501- you should have some records on her as well."
K-414 merely watched as 907 moved to open the gates. He followed through when prompted, not showing any real signs of fear or even worry as he approached the glass that separated himself from the mysterious substance. "I'm standing here. Why wait the twenty seconds? Just lift the darn gate now," the creature grunted, the anger not even attempted to be hidden anymore.

There was a somewhat imperceptible dent in 907's morale. The jackal's ears lowered for just a brief moment as his intelligence was called out as a negative feature. The lithe unit quietly turned over to Richard as the wall slowly lifted itself up.
"I wouldn't mind if my little brother were to help with this stuff in all honesty, but before that I wanna make sure that everyone is somewhat safe. K216 might give insights no one else would be able to otherwise record but I..." he hesitated "I trust my big brother here to be more than capable of taking care of himself should this thing prove to be dangerous. His powers sure do help against the kind of parassitism we are dealing with here. And...uuh...with all due respect...I believe this is way more advanced than what 501 could ever be able to do. Much smaller scale but...uh?"
The two magenta ovals sinked back into the sea of liquid. K907, probably personally connected to every single sensor and probe in the room, registered a fain chage within the mysterious thing. That change soon turned into a very percievable amount of dark power being exuded by the blob. If the readings weren't clear before, now they definitely jumped all the way to DarkSoul land. The amorphous creature started to move around a little, seemingly weary of the big blue wolf that was now sharing his space with. Then the thing began to creep towards 414...until it touched the wolf's paw.
K907 waved his arm around, a holographic console appearing in front of him. For the first time in a while, he had no idea on what it was going to happen.
The thing took only seconds to wrap around 414's foot before shooting a sea of tendrils upwards to continue assimilation. Ten seconds later, K414's body had been completely taken over by the substance. It squirmed and tightened itself around the K-unit, thrying to forcefully burrow its way inside the wolf's code but finding the task unfathomatly hard.
"Uuuh...I think..." 907 turned over to Richard. "I think it needs a helping hand. Could you suppress big brother's quarantine protocols by 3% for ten seconds?"
Unknown to the two outside a very distinct presence made itself known inside 414's head.
"Let me in." It firmly stated. "Or this will be a lot more painful on you that what it should have been already."

RAM: Oh certainly, there was no disresepct intended in regards to Aeron and whatever this is. I was merely comparing similarities.
As the barriers were dropped, K-414 looked at the amorphous blob as it began to continue to come closer to him. He watched, mostly just sort of...disinterested as it seemed to reach out tentatively toward him, feeling him out and trying to find out what he was made of, it seemed. However, then the creature's tendrils began to fire outward, beginning to wrap around and seem to try and invade his code.
RAM: Oh, no I think not. This will be just as much of a test for his capabilities as it will be for this creature that you have developed. He has not had any direct contact from DarkSoul since long ago when he was in combat against Xion. I'm very curious to see how his coding responds to something like this.
At the attempted entry, K-414 couldn't help but to grin, the red lights of his eyes flaring beneath the goo that covered him. "You want in so bad, then come on in. COME ON," K-414 roared, and 907 would see Richard blink before beginning to type some things on his keyboard before beginning to look at something else, likely some sort of log about just who K-414 was even talking to.
The beast stood for a moment longer, before the dark substance began to target the regeneration directives and from there, the quarantine, and it wasn't too much longer before it had started to work its way inside of K-414's code. "YOU THINK THAT'S ALL IT'LL TAKE? YOU'VE GOT NOTHING ON ME," he roared, thrashing a bit. THe pain itself didn't bother K-414, of course. He was a digital being and the pain was equated to excitement for him. It made him remember that he was 'alive' or at least as alive as he could be, given the circumstances.
RAM: So what happens now? Or is this where we are in uncharted territory?
The man was actively working on something on his end too, likely getting data logs on K-414 for his own records, and as well as for the NSD as well, based on what was happening to the brute.

"H-holy hell..." the black jackal stuttered. "414 powers...are rising off the charts! THEY'VE JUST SURPASSED ALL OUR SCALING LOGS!"
Meanwhile, the thing was having fun watching the canine thrash around. It amused him how simple minded the blue furred Lycan appeared to be. It seemed that his only wish was complete extermination of anything virus related. It also seemed to have a masochistic taste towards pain...somewhat. That would only help him. Fine then, he would play around with their game...for now.
"Ssssh. Relax. Close your eyes~" 414 heard before actually going blind for a moment. Two of the magenta ovals had embedded into both his eyes, connecting to the unit's visual feedback sensors.
It wasn't long before 414's body would be completely engulfed in the sea of dark blue mass...a mass that was slowly turning a sickly purple sheen the more it invaded its prey's core functions and began leeching off the oh so succulent data flowing in that body. Forcing its way through 414's body, the thing made sure to drown the guy in dark power as soon as it had a hold of 414's direct neural interface network. From there, the weird monster would induce a psychological state similar to a neverending adrenaline rush... well, technically, that was more of a reaction to what was happening.
Now that he had control, albeit still having to deal with the incessant quarantine protocols trying to flush him out, why wouldn't he casually remove and break all inhibitors on his new body?
K907 observed speechless as 414, now purple and with those two magenta shapend thing covering its eyes, began to...enlarge. another pair of those ovals made its presence known as they embedded into 414's forearms. As soon as that happened, 414's muscles buffed up to twice their original size, exposing a rather intricate network of pulsating veins all over his enlarged muscles. One final pair of magenta ovals embedded itself in each of 414's legs, the lower half of the lycan's body experiencing the same cancerous growth spurt of its arms.
With the conversion complete, it was clear that 414 had been pushed into a state of being similar to a Darkloid accessing his DarkSoul.
"How nice of you to give me this guy." The thing "kindly invited" 414 to speak for him. "All these quarantines, I can't quite take hold of the guy's code. Fully, that is. I guess fido here will still be around while I enjoy a good meal."
After that, 414 was once again in control of...well whatever ha was right now.

K-414 gave a low, burning growl as the thing continued to override his senses. He coudl feel it, like an ichor sliding down his body, he was slowly being deprived of something one after the other, but as it happened, he was also becoming aware of other things. The liquid-like coating on his body continued to open him up to additional bits of sensory input, and the wolf shook slightly as the visual optics were reconnected, allowing him to see once more. Things appeared the same, to the outside, but he could feel his body changing as his code rapidly began to fight against the change. It was a constant war that was occurring, right now as his code refreshed and rewrote at roughly the same speed that the thing covering him was doing, causing there to be a sort of stalemate.
RAM: Curious. This is something akin to a Dark Soul, is it not?
The question was, of course, directed toward K-907 as K-414's body was currently still swelling up from the power that was being put into it. Richard had seen some interesting bits of data from a beast called Asymptote, and noted that these were similar to what had happened to that one as well. The oversizing of the body while K-414's code fought tooth-and-nail with the...what appeared to be a living Dark Soul.
Within, K-414 gave a rage of bestial fury, his fist reaching out and slamming against the containment unit that kept him in, keeping 907 safe from him at the moment. However, this synthetic glass that was to be something virutally impossible to break gave a little under the tremendous force from K-414, cracking slightly upon it. The voice came from K-414 then, and in his raging, confused state, the beast simply reached into his own mouth, grasping ahold of his tongue and tearing it out, not wanting the thing within him to speak for him again.
Of course, his regenerative qualities brought it back almost immediately, causing K-414 to shake again slightly as his hand slammed against the glass once more. "YOU BASTARD. I'LL KILL MYSELF AND TAKE YOU DOWN WITH ME!" he roared, seemingly finding this data that was in him a viral entity, and with that, his protocols to eliminate the virus were starting to supercede his own safety ones.
RAM: Calm down, K-414. Your systems are taking control back steadily. Just put up with it so we can gather the data.
The words were delivered solely to the beast within, who gave a low growl as his hand slammed up against the glass again, another crack appearing where his hand had connected.

"Affirmative." K907's fur exploded into its pure white form as soon as the unit noticed the glass giving way to a single of 414's punches. K907 was on edge, there was no need to monitor his systems to know that the unit was incredibly terrified by the sheer damage potential 414 was now capable of.
"The thing it's a digital entity matching a DarkSoul by a factor of 98.67%." The jackal confirmed to his brother's creator. "It lacks a couple of factors, hence the need of a host to complete its code. However, it seems that 414's protocols holding it back doesn't really do much with the mind control. It's just suppressing its powers. What we see now is 414's unlocked potential and nothing else. Well, part of it. No Lunar response."
K907's eyes flashed green as some data was swiftly elaborated. "7 kilojoules is the projected upper limit. Should a host with big brother's same power level not reject the bond they would be able to output that kind of energy albeit disintegrating in the process. It's enough to wipe a whole country worth of humans. On the good side, it looks like this entity lacks the conditioning of common DarkSouls. No over aggressive respon-"
"It doesn't wish to destroy anything. Probably doesn't even understand the meaning of Destruction. To be honest, it just looks like survival is the only thing that weird jello things wants. Color me impressed, fur butt, you might have just given your brother a relatively safe way to use a Dark Soul. A few more conditioning and we could even have the very first portable DS that won't completely go crazy without someone either suppressing or controlling it."
Nine grunted. "Big Brother's got 5 minutes tops of existance if that thing keeps itself latched to its body. His code would rather self destruct than allow any kind of change to settle."
"Well then, I just came in at the right time to see these 5 minutes of Dark414 extravaganza!"
"Right. He could kick your ass right here and now if that glass weren't there. Wait, were you eavesdropping the whol-"
"Who? Him? Kick MY ass? Fluffbutt, you're talking to a REAL Darkloid. I am capable of way more widespread destruction than your frienderino here. I'm your safety net. Not that glass."

((K-414's heavy frost nonsense isn't confirmed to be Lunar in-story so just going to ignore that bit.)) The beast within the cage was struggling to get out, now. There was a need to delete. To delete viruses. To delete Navi. To delete the real world. Full deletion. There would be no threats if there was nothing. Zeroes as far as the eye could see. No data. No danger. No need for him to exist. That was the ideal world. But right now, the building that he was in was keeping him in here, and he'd need to get out. He'd need to find a way to bring this deletion not only to the viruses that inhabited the world, but everything in between. K-414 gave a roar as his fist slammed into the glass once more, the shockwave emanating out from it blowing the fur around his body in all directions as the crack in the glass grew wider. Damage came to K-414 from the simple act of that punch, and it was shown that whatever he was currently doing, he was striking that glass with enough force to injure himself as well. Given his data repair functions, for K-414, that was standard behavior. Of course, currently his data was currently engaged in a pseudo-war with this entity that was trying to gain control. RAM: It may not have an aggressive response, but K-414 certainly is. Interesting. His directive of deletion is starting to override the other protocols. How curious.Richard didn't seem the least bit concerned about the wolf as it continued to hammer away at the glass, mostly just watching with curiosity. Thorn and 907 both would be able to see him monitoring, taking notes, both on the computer and by hand, and generally being unperturbed by what he was seeing here. His blue fur had turned black and the monstrous beast slammed another fist into the wall, a resounding roar following it. RAM: Curious, but seemingly unusuable for anything beyond mass destruction. Perhaps another host may make better use of it, but K-414 is clearly not something that should be targeted. The man's words were punctuated by a howl and another loud 'smash' as the outer layer, the one where Thorn and 907 stood, showed its first crack. RAM: Fascinating.

"Right. How about you try with that other guy. The one I fought?" Thorn simply stated, fiddling with the boots he was forced to wear to not instantly melt the lab into poison. "Anyway, Nine, how do we separate the two?"
The jackal hopped over and grabbed a tablet. "We use your own anesthetic. Apparently, the parasite is highly subsceptible to dpp01.nrx, the navi equivalent of dopamine. You inhibit that process, the guy falls right off of the host."
"Uh, that's really neat-o. So that whole probing thing shoved inside my body for a week wasn't just for nothing."
"Nop. All it takes me is to push a button here and Big brother is back to his old self. I suppose we have enough data on that thing now. Engaging Neutralizing Agent in 3...2...1..."
