How To: Stories Mode
Stories mode is a new way to go about interacting in MMM's story. We've done away with the infinitely long story threads of old and created a way for you, our members, to shape both your stories and that of the Melee's in a more personal way. First lets go over how you interact in Stories mode before we show off some of the things you can do that might have been difficult before.
In Stories mode, you create and participate in individual threads representing contained events. In order to start a story, simply start a thread just like you would for a battle or anything else. In your initial post, you'll set the parameters for your own story (how many people can join, if its restricted to certain people, certain versions, and other qualifiers) as well as set the stage for where you are. Since locations are no longer implied, you will need to spend some time describing where you are and what you're doing so that people joining you know what's around them. From there, just act as normal, but remember that anything happening in a Story thread is self-contained, and can't interact with other threads unless otherwise noted.
Joining a thread is just like showing up in story right now, just pop right in and play your character.
A few more things to note about story threads:
Now then with that all out of the way, lets delve a little more into things you can do with this Stories mode.

We understand this is a bit of a big change for people, so if you have any other questions, feel free to ask away!

Joining a thread is just like showing up in story right now, just pop right in and play your character.
A few more things to note about story threads:
- When creating a thread, please include [OPEN] or [PRIVATE] at the beginning or end of your thread title to let people know if they can easily join at a glance.
- All Battles that take place within the story thread are to be made within the thread itself instead of in the Battlefield. RP is encouraged but not required, and you will be provided with an additional reward of EXP or Zenny if you RP while fighting.
- When the creator of the thread feels that their story is finished (or moving to another area) They can choose to close the thread. Doing so will tally up rewards for all participants and grant them.
- Thats right, you get rewards such at Exp and Zenny from participating in story. Every non-battle post you make will net you 5 exp and 50 zenny, while battle posts will provide the normal rewards for the battle once the thread is completed as well. If you created the thread, you will also receive an extra 10 exp and 100 zenny. If you have more than 10 non-battle posts in the thread, you might even get something special.
- Major arcs will still happen, however they will generally be restricted to Threads marked [MAIN STORY] in their title.
- Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, because Story threads are self contained, Only threads closed when a given thread begins have any bearing on what happens inside of the thread.
Now then with that all out of the way, lets delve a little more into things you can do with this Stories mode.
- Stories mode turns regular story interactions to be closer with what many know as custom stories, as you have some liberties in crafting where you are, and NPC navis you interact with.
- Along that same vein, the thread creator is free to play for various NPC navis and viruses in order to make their story more interactive or fun. Please note however this only applies to the sort of "faceless" navis that populate the net, Major NPCs and bosses still retain control by staff. If you're not sure if an NPC would fall under a specific category, just ask one of the staff.
- If you want to incorporate a Staff NPC into your story, come ask the staff, we'll see what we can do.
- For those of you concerned that the old way is gone forever, Fear Not! we have incorporated Squares into each of our major areas which will function similar to our old way of storytelling where you can chat and interact to your heart's content. However, these areas have incredible anti-violence protocols, so most non-essential navi functions will be disabled here, and those with dangerous essential functions will find new safety features about them while in these areas.
- Always remember that Edge is watching, and will likely kill us all some day.
